Ontario Dirt Super Late Models Make Mark on the 1/3 Mile Clay Oval

Saturday, July 23rd marked the return of the Ontario Dirt Late Models to
Brighton Speedway in their 2011 season opener with drivers from all across
Ontario and New York.  Twenty six of these high horsepower Late Models
descended on the tight 1/3rd mile clay oval in hopes of taking home the top
prize of $3,000.00 for the main event sponsored by Hotch's Auto Parts out of
Ameliasburgh.  With a full race program on the schedule the night heralded
some awesome racing and fast paced action.

The Brighton Automotive Fan Appreciation was once again a huge success on
Saturday night as each of the participating cars joined the fans on the
front straight of the race track to take pictures, show off their cars and
meet their adoring fans.  Hero cars, candy, freezies and novelty gifts were
handed out to the awaiting fans.

The Bainer's Radiator Canadian Modified 25 lap feature started out a little
rough with a caution on the first and second lap due to mechanical
difficulties with the 97 Dave McDonald, 43Devon Kippen  and 0 Shane
Ostrander getting tangled up. On the restart 11 Dan Ferguson, 9 Mat
Vanderlinden and 8 Terry Loxley would hold down the top three spots.
Ferguson would continue to lead with Vanderlinden close on his tail however
for Loxely the night was not so successful as he received a black flag for
altercations with both the 7 of Henry Schneider and 84 Wally Alderdice.
McDonald would slowly make his way back through the field when Ferguson had
to pit.  This left the lead to Vanderlinden and when the checkered flag flew
it was Mat Vanderlinden crossing the line with 97 Dave McDonald following in
second for his best finish to date, Ferguson had a nice run to come back to
third after a pit stop.

The Larry's Towing Triple Crown 30 lap Brighton Automotive Pro Stock feature
race started with 01 Brandon Gregory on the pole with 2 Leslie Mowat.
However it would be 83 Jay O'Hara who would the lead in the early laps
followed closely by Gregory and Mowat.  72 Doug Anderson and Gregory would
soon be out front battling it out side by side when a rash of cautions hit
in lap 11, 12 and 13.  On the restart in lap 13 Gregory jumped the start
twice consecutively and was put to the back.  Anderson lead the way followed
by 8 Gary Vandertoorn and O'Hara.  Another caution would fly on lap 26 for
18 Hector Asmar as he spun around and Vandertoorn headed to the pits for a
flat tire moving 12 Adam Whaley into 3rd place. The top three once again
goes to Anderson followed by O'Hara and Whaley.

The Ontario Dirt Late Models hit the track as the third feature and the high
light of the night.  Track conditions had changed quite a bit from heat time
and the drivers that anticipated the dry slick track were the ones that
really capitalized.  Team Mates 7 Lee of Lafargeville NY and 25 Greg Belyea
of Frankford would show off their new Aluminum Big Block motors from the
pole position and the two had the cars dialed in from the start!
Unfortunately there were a number of other cars that did not hit their marks
on step up and lead to a record 18 cautions in 30 laps!  Early movers that
looked strong to challenge Gill and Belyea seemed to be 29 Phil Potts, 22
Greg Oakes, 18 R Chris Ross, 57 Charlie Sandercock and the 60 Dale
Glassford.  Glassford and Sandercock would not be able to avoid some of the
wrecks and would get caught up in the cautions and retire early while Belyea
who had slipped from 2nd to 4th was not happy with the car and took
advantage of the number of cautions to pit and make adjustments.  Gill and
Oakes would now battle it out for 1st and 2nd while Potts and Ross would
battle it out for third and forth.  Meanwhile the cautions would help Belyea
pick his way through the field.  It would be tough for Oakes to get any
momentum with all the cautions but that did not stop him from trying the
high side around Gill.  As they came to the checkered on lap 30 it would be
Gill, Oakes and Ross in Third. Potts ran out of fuel on lap 28 and Belyea
made his way back to forth after pitting.  7D Jeff Dayman would round out
the top five while credit goes out to 87 Andrew Hennessy and 12 Kyle Sopaz
who finished 6th and 7th respectively as the top crate engine cars.

The Bill's Johns Comp 4 feature was led by 66 Mark Packer from green to
checker. In a quick 15 race dash to the end night the mini stocks put on a
quick and effortless race.  By lap twelve, 46 point leader Warren Mowat
moved into second place, closely challenged by 10 Travis McLean.  In the
only caution-free race of the night, Mark Packer won his first feature and
takes home the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week status.

Be sure to join the crowd on Saturday, July 30th at CBM presents the DIRTcar
Sportsman Modified 30 Lap race where the winner will be guaranteed a
starting spot in Brighton Speedway's Applefest weekend DIRTcar Sportsman
Super Dirt Car Series Race.  On the race card as well will be the first
Figure 8 Race of 2011 as well as the Bainer's Radiators Canadian Modifieds,
the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks, the Bill's Johns Comp 4's and the Quinte
Towing 6 Cylinder Stingers.  With racing action as hot as this there is no
place else you ought to be!  Contact the Speedway Office at 613.475.1102 for
