Mother Nature Rains on the Bus Parade!

For Immediate Release
June 14th

Saturday June 12th was a night marked in many families books as a must see night at the speedway as everyone was set when Lange and Fetter Motors presented the first of two Leon’s Trenton School Bus Races on the season.  After heavy rains ended early in the morning staff was hopeful it would hold out for the rest of the day making it possible to get the popular event in.  It was looking positive as the track was being packed in and everything was coming together right up until 5pm when a quick 5 minute down poor set track preparations back.  Officials and volunteers continued to work the track in a valiant effort to pack the track in to a manageable racing surface.  Once again forward progress was being made up until 6 pm when Mother Nature again let out a quick 5 minute shower.  Staff was still determined to get the show in and warned drivers and fans there would be a half hour delay and that management was going to do whatever possible to get the track ready.  With the fans in the stands, drivers, crew, cars and busses in the pits everyone was optimistic until 7:10 when Mother Nature was determined to have the last word and rained again for a quick shower.  This shower was enough that it forced management to pull the plug as it was concluded that the delay in preparing the track would be too unreasonable to still put on a show.

Not all is lost however as the Leon’s School Bus Races have been rescheduled to June 26th on Workman Auto Repair night.  Tickets from this past Saturday night will be honored in full for this upcoming rescheduled event.

Looking ahead to this coming weekend it is another action packed race weekend, when Vanderlaan Building Supplies presents the Southern Ontario Sprints and the Humber Nurseries King of the North Country Late Model Series.  Southern Ontario Sprints Round 1 winner #5 Keith Dempster will be back to try and defend his series lead  against his team mate #0 Glen Styres and the Joyceville Jet #42 Rick Wilson.  Both Styres and Wilson will be trying hard to get back into victory lane after mechanical failures in the season opener back on May 22nd.  Local favorites from Prince Edward County #11 Chris Jones and #84 Tyler Rand will be back where they will both be in search of their first Sprint car win.  Rand came oh so close on May 22nd when he made a last lap charge at Dempster only to be beat out by a tire at the line!

The Humber Nurseries King of the North Country Late Model Series also kicks off this weekend.  Local Brighton Drivers will be heading south to Can Am Speedway on Friday night to take on the best in Pro Late Model Racing for Round 1 of the series.  The very next night Can Am drivers will come north to Brighton Speedway for Round two to try and beat our best Late Model drivers.  #87 Andrew Hennessy has been on a roll lately with a first and second in the first two points events and is looking forward to the Challenge to out of town drivers will present.

Be sure to be here this Saturday as Vanderlaan Building Supplies Present the Southern Ontario Sprints, The Humber Nurseries King of the North Country Late Models Series along with the Bainers Radiator Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks and the Bill’s Johns Comp 4’s.  Gates open at 5:30 and racing starts at 7pm sharp, for complete details visit www.brightonspeedway.com
