Hennessy Picks up Forth Feature in a Row, Baldwin, Ramsay, Saunders and MacGregor all return to Victory Lane!

By Angela Rinaldi

BRIGHTON (June 14, 2014) – An exciting night of action at Brighton Speedway saw that saw all five classes plus the Eastern Ontario Vintage Club on hand for Hotch’s Auto Parts and Comfort Zone Heating and Air Conditioning night at the races.

Hennessy Makes it Four Straight

Andrew Hennessy (No. 87 Ontario Trucking) took his Canadian Modified to victory lane for the fourth straight time this Saturday night but it wasn’t an easy task as he had to start deep in the 18 car field.  Hennessy, Ryan Scott (No.33 J&J Automotive)  and Dan Ferguson (No. 11 Mark Heating and Cooling) all picked their way through the field as early race leader Adam Whaley (#12 John’s Equipment) took the lead and was trying to capitalize while the competition was fierce second through fifteenth.  Whaley would start to feel the pressure from Scott on the top side and Hennessy below him.  Whaley had his hands full with the top two point’s leaders working him over.  Finally on lap twelve, Whaley would move up the track ever so slightly exiting turn four and it wouldn’t take long for Hennessy to seize the opportunity.  Scott would follow suit and move into the second place position to resume his battle with Hennessy followed by Ferguson who was using the extreme high side of the track to work around the field but would run out of laps as he caught the two leaders.  Hennessy would hold on and increase his slim point’s margin over Scott and Ferguson.

Strapper takes First Vintage Win of the Season at Brighton Speedway

Peter Strapper (No. 28 Burnside Windows) would take the first Eastern Ontario Vintage Modified event of the season at Brighton Speedway.  Strapper spent the majority of the 15 lap race chasing Steve Arbuthnot (No. 70) around the 1/3rd mile oval.  On the last lap Strapper would drive his modified in deep into turn one and made it stick on the outside well getting a good run off of two.  It was a drag race up the back shoot and into turn three where Strapper would use the high side again to keep his momentum up and get a run coming off of four, beating Arbuthnot to the checkers by half a car in an exciting finish.  Coming home third was the B10 of Paul Billings.

Baldwin Battles Adversity to Win Second Feature

Steve Baldwin’s (No.5 cigarchief.com) night started out rough as he was involved in an early wreck during his heat race.  But after the team work hard the to put the car back together by the time the feature came around there was no sign of his earlier bad luck.  Baldwin started feature in 10th place and would use the first 10 laps to make his way through the field before moving into second and applying pressure to pole sitter Dave MacDonald (#97 Image Landscaping) .  Baldwin would spend the next two laps working the high side with MacDonald on the low side before finally completing the pass on lap twelve.  With the success he found up high he decided to stay up there even when on lap fifteen Charlie Sandercock (No.57 Bellevue Fabricating) would move past MacDonald for second.  Sandercock and Baldwin would race hard side by side for the remainder of the race with Sandercock actually taking the lead briefly for a lap on lap seventeen and lap 25 but Baldwin would prevail and hold on for the 30 lap win followed by Sandercock and Corey Earl (#11 Hotch’s Auto Parts) coming home third.

Rich Saunders (No. 29 Franks Auto Repair) after taking home his first ever win last Saturday, followed it up this week in the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 division.  Justin Ramsay (No. 03 ABC Taxi) ran a heck of a race in the Brighton Automotive Pro Stock division while battling the Doug Anderson (No 72 Hunts Bobcat) and Leslie Mowat (No 2 Cormier Auto Wreckers).  In the end Ramsay was able to hold on for his second victory of the season.  Del Macgregor (No. 19 R. Ward Construction) came from the back of the fourteen car field to win the twelve lap Quinte Septic Stinger feature.
