Great Night of Racing for the Packed House at Brighton Speedway

Maestro's Painting Contractors hosted the School Bus Races this past
Saturday at Brighton Speedway and as per the usual when the busses come to
town the crowd was packed!  Top that off with some super exciting racing by
the Vanderlaan's Building Supplies Late Models, Bainer's Radiator Canadian
Modifieds, Bill's Johns Comp 4 and the Quinte Towing Stingers and it was a
great night at the track!

The School bus heats went off without a hitch however the feature would turn
out to be much more eventful.   #38 Pete Vance (Pappy) and #19 Brett Minaker
would lead the field of 14 busses to the first green flag and they headed
into turn one with a full head of steam.  However it wouldn't be long before
#15 Ivan Smith got loose coming out of turn four and #77 Bernie Rhebergen
got up underneath the side of Ivan's bus and nearly rolled him over.  After
a short delay to get the two busses unhooked the race resumed.  #24 Rick
Sopaz would pick his way to the front of the field being chased by #44 Jim
Perry and the spring time winner #9 Derek "Maestro" Vreugdenhil.  Sopaz
would pick his way through lapped traffic and the other two gave chase until
lap 9 when the caution came out for Maestro who had a tire stuck under his
bus.   This made for a three lap dash to the finish but Sopaz was able to
hold off Perry and Maestro for his first win in a couple of years.

The Vanderlaan's Building Supplies Pro Late Models put on the most exciting
race of the night.  #55 Mark Rayner and #46 Brandon Mowat would lead the 18
car field to the green.  The pace was fast and furious with cars running two
and three wide throughout the field.  On lap 4 a caution came out as current
point's leader #25 Greg Belyea caught a tire from the infield and knocked it
on the track.  This caution would make Belyea's night a lot tougher starting
from the back with only 21 laps to go and second in points #57 Charlie
Sandercock had already moved into the top 5.  On the restart #29 Phil Potts
would now move into second place behind Rayner followed by #20 Terry Hunt
and Sandercock.  Rayner was running the high line while Potts now had to
move down and try to work underneath Rayner.  The two battled side by side
for a number of lap's well sandercock now moved into third.  Once clear of
Rainer, Potts would move back to the top side and Sandercock who had been
running the bottom all night made the move under Rayner and would challenge
Potts.  The two traded the lead back and forth three times before a caution
came out.  On the restart Potts chose the low line trying to take Sandercock's
line away and forcing him high.  As they went back to green Potts would
maintain the lead until another yellow immediately came out.  Potts again
chose the inside for a 3 lap dash to the finish.  On the restart they would
come off the corner perfectly even, the two would seesaw back and forth a
number of times keeping the fans on the edge of their seats.  Coming out of
corner 4 it would be Sandercock up high, and Potts on the bottom, Sandercock
was able to carry his momentum down the front straight and beat Potts by
half a car length.  Greg Belyea did a great job to recover from his lap 4
incident and was able to make his way back through the tough field for a
third place finish in order to maintain his points lead.

Mat Vanderlinden picked up a strong win in the Bainer's Radiator Canadian
Modified class.  Jeff Humphry made an exciting pass on the second last lap
to take home the Bill's Johns Comp 4 feature well Mike Freeman won the
Quinte Towing Stingers feature.

Be sure to join us this Saturday as John's Equipment presents the Danny Read
Memorial $2,000.00 to win 50 Lap Canadian Modified Event and McDougall
Financial and Insurance presentation of the first ever Great Crate Race.
This 65 Lap Late Model feature pays $5,000.00 to win and record car counts
in both divisions are expected.  The excitement and buzz has been building
