Great Crate Race and Danny Reid Memorial Set to Thrill this Saturday
BRIGHTON – The 4th annual McDougall Insurance Great Crate Race and John’s Equipment Danny Reid Memorial are set to bring excitement at Brighton Speedway on Saturday. The 65-lap Great Crate Race for the Go Nuclear! Late Model Challenge Series will pay $6000 to the winner and an $20,000 overall purse. The 50-lap Danny Reid Memorial for the Canadian/IMCA Modifieds will pay $2000 to the winner.
The Great Crate Race will feature the stars from the Go Nuclear! touring series as well as the Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models weekly drivers from the Brighton Speedway. The drivers will compete for Go Nuclear! points in lieu of Brighton points. The Great Crate Race could also attract top competitors from Pennsylvania and New York’s Southern Tier.
Dale Caswell (No.88) of West Monroe, NY is the most recent winner of the Great Crate Race, while Chuck Meyers (No.28) won the 2012 edition of the race. Lee Gill (No.7) of Lafargeville, NY won the inaugural event in 2011. Brighton Speedway point leader Charlie Sandercock (No.57) is also the current Go Nuclear! point leader with two wins on the season. He holds a 29-point advantage over Caswell. Portville, NY native Dustin Waters (No.14) sits third in Go Nuclear! points ahead of Brighton regulars Phil Potts (No.29) and Adam Turner (No.92).
The $2000-to-win Danny Reid memorial honours the former late Brighton Speedway driver and is the highest paying race of the season for the Canadian Modifieds. The race will not count towards the Brighton Speedway championship. In addition to the already competitive Brighton Speedway regular cast of drivers, the race may also garner interest from IMCA Modified drivers at Brewerton Speedway. Brewerton points champion Chris Fleming (No.10) won 10 of 11 starts at the Central Square, NY track this season.
Andrew Hennessy (No.87) leads all Brighton drivers with six wins in 2014, ahead of Dan Ferguson’s (No.11) four victories. Dale Locke (No.13) has a pair of wins while Doug O’Blenis (No.32) and Adam Whaley (No.12) each have one. Sandercock won the race last year as a substitute driver. Ryan Scott (No.33) was the 2012 victor and Ferguson won in 2011.
The Bill’s Johns Comp 4s will also be in action for a 15-lap feature. Rich Sanders (No.29) is the current point leader with an 85-point advantage over Brady Greer (No.94). Shelby Mills (No.78), Riley Greer (No.47), and Emily Weedman (No.87) are the current top-five in the standings.
The Quite Septic stingers have also been added to the schedule. Del MacGregor (No.19) remains the current point leader over Rick Phillips (No.7) and Jeff Inia (No.17).
Racing is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm. Spectator gates open at 5:00pm with hot laps scheduled for 6:00pm. Adult admission for this special event is $20, and a family pass, valid for two adults, two children, and a family popcorn is just $55.
