Comfort Zone Heating & Air Conditioning and Behan Construction Race Night Featuring Mechanics’ Races This Saturday at Brighton Speedway

By Clayton Johns

BRIGHTON (August 25, 2015) – The noise roars back to life at Brighton Speedway on Saturday night with four weekly racing divisions in action for Comfort Zone Heating & Air Conditioning and Behan Construction race night. The Vanderlaan Building Products RUSH Pro Late Models, Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks and Bill’s Johns Comp 4s will do battle this week. Each class will also have a special mechanics’ race at the end of the night, giving the one crew member from each team the opportunity to get behind the wheel of their driver’s car.

Sandercock Extends Lead

Charlie Sandercock extended his lead in the Vanderlaan Building Products RUSH Pro Late Model standings to 195 points over Corey Earl with his eighth win of the season last Saturday night. The two drivers battled wheel-to-wheel for the final six laps of the main event last week. Earl hopes he can bring the championship fight right down to the final night like he did in 2013. This time, he hopes he will raise the hardware on the final night. Following his second rollover of the season, Phil Potts sits third in the championship standings, 345 points behind Sandercock. Steve Baldwin turned in an impressive performance last week, where he battled from an early-race incident to finish in the top five. A mechanical failure last week pushed Kyle Sopaz down to fifth in the championship standings. The team recovered one night later in Sunday’s Go Nuclear! Late Model Series event at Humberstone Speedway and hopes to get back on the right track Saturday at Brighton

Ferguson’s Roll Continue

Dan Ferguson’s impressive season continued last week when he earned his third win in his last five starts and fifth overall. It allowed him to grow his point lead to 195 points over fellow championship contender Andrew Hennessy. Both drivers won their qualifying heats last week, but Ferguson got the better of the feature results. Hennessy finished sixth while Doug O’Blenis earned a ninth-place finish. O’Blenis maintained the third position in the championship standings with the top-10 result. Curtis King and Shawn Gregory now sit fourth and fifth in the overall standings.

Anderson Back On Top

Doug Anderson got back in to the winner’s circle last week when he led wire-to-wire for his fourth Brighton Automotive Pro Stock win of the season. Anderson shaved his deficit to 260 points behind point leader Justin Ramsay. He was helped in part by the flat tire Ramsay suffered in the opening laps, resulting in his 11th-place finish. Anderson remains in contention for his sixth consecutive Pro Stock championship. Jonah Mutton turned in another impressive performance with his third straight top-three finish. Wade Purchase sits third in the championship standings after finishing fifth last week. Jamie Marshall and Leslie Mowat complete the current top-five.

Read Shaking Up Comp 4 Chase

Josh Read’s three wins in the last three nights have thrown a wrench in to the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 championship standings. Read, a Brighton native who began the year racing at Brockville Ontario Speedway, is at the top of the division and appears to be well ahead of the competition. The wins have left the rest of the field chasing second, including the top two championship contenders Shelby Mills and Austin Reid. The two drivers finished fourth and fifth last week behind Read, Tyler French and Adam Chapman. Mills’ lead is now 75 points over Reid.
