Aecon and UCB Canada present a Full Card of Weekly Racing

By Clayton Johns

BRIGHTON (May 19, 2015) – Brighton Speedway’s 2015 season resumes on Saturday, May 23 when Aecon and UCB Canada present a full night of racing for all five weekly divisions. It’s sure to be an action packed night as points battles heat up in all classes.

Vanderlaan Building Products RUSH Pro Late Models

Charlie Sandercock (No.57 Bellevue Fabricating) rattled off his second win in three starts last Saturday night, but it wasn’t without a heavy challenge from Phil Potts (No.29 Vanderlaan). Potts will also carry momentum from his second-place finish in the RUSH North Series tour event at Merrittville Speedway on Monday. Adam Nayler (No.42 Quinte West Tire) had his best finish of the season, a third-place result, last week and hopes his season will continue to improve.

Potts maintains the points lead with a 15-point cushion over Steve Baldwin (No.5 Smokin’ Speedway). Corey Earl is third in the current standings, 20 points out of the lead. Sandercock and Brandon Mowat (No.46 Target Fabrication Inc.) complete the top-five.

OilGARD Canadian Modifieds

The OilGARD Canadian Modifieds return to action after a brief one-week hiatus. Last time out of the box, Curtis King (No.07 Ajax Nissan) won his first career race. In both races so far this season, the polesitter has led every lap on route to the victory. Andrew Hennessy (No.87 Custom Automotive) was the opening night winner.

Hennessy holds the current points lead with a 45-point advantage over Doug O’Blenis (No.32 John’s Car Care) and Adam Whaley (No.12 John’s Equipment) who sit tied for second. Dan Ferguson (No.11 Kilmarnock Enterprise) and Kraig Handley (No.91 Tri-Canadian Energy) are tied for fourth in the standings, 55 tallies behind Hennessy.

Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks

Justin Ramsay (No.03 Empey Tire) is the hot shoe in the division right now with a pair of victories. Wade Purchase (No.53 Performance Auto Sales) followed up his first career win with a third-place finish last week. Doug Anderson (No.72 Hunt’s Bobcat Service) is winless, but has yet to finish outside the top-five.

Ramsay leads Anderson in the championship standings by a mere 15 points. Jamie Marshall (No.55 C&L Upholstery) is third, 65 points behind Ramsay while Purchase is 85 markers back in fourth. Leslie Mowat (No.2 Cormier’s Auto Recycling) is fifth.

Bill’s Johns Comp 4s

The Bill’s Johns Comp 4s division has been primarily a one horse race thus far. Trenton’s Tyler French (No.0 Empey Tire) has won all three starts this season. His teammate, Shelby Mills (No.78 ABC Taxi), has been improving with each race and finished second last week.

French holds a 65-point lead in the championship standings over Mills. Sophomore driver Austin Reid (No.85 Young Drivers) is third and just five points behind Mills. Brothers Brady (No.94 Greer Excavating) and Riley Greer (No.47 Greer Excavating) are fourth and fifth, respectively.

Quinte Septic Stingers

The lone Quinte Septic Stingers race so far this season was an entertaining one as 20 cars filed in to the pit area. Defending champ Del MacGregor (No.19 R.Ward Construction) picked up where he left off with the opening night victory over Jordan Pickell (No.93 Sowerby Signs) and Chris Lammle (No.95 Sowerby Signs). Those three drivers hold the top-three spots in the current standings ahead of Arthur McCauley (No.99 Quinte West Tirecraft) and Richard McCormack (No.72 M&M Renovation).
