The rules get to change and drivers can all vote on what rules are in place for the next three race seasons. Just curious to see what rules anyone would like to change or add. I myself at least for the Pure Stock A class would like to see a Hoosier tire in use, I think it may even out the class not to mention choosing the right stagger for the car you run. Fourteen inch tires will eventually be obsolete in the 215/60 and 205/60 series tires. Not to mention tire retailers don't want to order a bunch of tires in just so you can measure them for the right stagger as no 205/60 in any brand is the same diameter or other sizes for that matter. I know it would please the track tire supplier. But the bigger picture is it may even out the class more. Now this is if they are reasonably priced. I think it may be a step in the right direction. I think we need to open up the suspension rules a little more in the sense that if you do move up a class ya have an idea how this stuff affects the cars.
Hey Tooner, I don't race in the Pure Stock class, but I know a little bit about it. I think that you should really rethink the tire rule thing. If you want to get into a spec race tire for 4 cylinders, it is going to be expensive to race any four cylinder. We have the Hoosier in the Thunder Cars and it is expensive (relatively) but the Thunders are getting closer to Late Models than they ever used to be. The New Gen car is a lot like the old "Challenger" class of car, and with the Hoosiers the cars go faster and as they do that then they tend to break stock parts more. My feeling (and the track's, that what they say to the fans) is that the four cylinder classes are more for people with a little more limited budget and people who are new to the sport. I can see your point where you would like to even out the field and maybe bring some more adjustability to the four cylinders, but I think this is the wrong direction for that class to go. Adding adjustability and race tires is just making 4 cylinder Thunder Cars... I think the priority should be making the class competitive across all of the makes, by adding weight factors and coming up with templates and specs for what can be done or not. If you want the 4 cylinder classes to be faster, open it up to 16v and DOHC engines, (but not V6's as Mosport has done) as most of us know all the HP in the world isn't going to help you turn left, and keep them on street tires.
I do agree with some points Kev, but i think the Charger class is more of the cost effective class....I think that we now have a bit of a luxury in that we now have a seperate 4 cylendar class...I like the race tire idea as well as the suspension idea, as most are running close to race stlye suspensions anyways. Bringing in an alowable 16V rule will be terrible for us as we ahve all already built non-16 V cars. You caN;T JUST IMPLIMENT THE RULE NOW... As far as i am concerned I think we should also allow a lil more play inthe engine as well....maybe make it like a mod-4..but with some restrictions.
I would love to run 16v sohc non vtech.. and let the mustangs do some engine work and let us play with the supention a littel bit... us front wheel drive guys dont have to worry about stager as much as the stangs do so im not to shure about the tire rule but I dont know much about a racing tire ether!!
basicy I would like to see a pro stock 4 cly, and a pure stock 4cly, only have 16vs in the pro stock..
Like I said Kevin if its affordable. I would be all for a Mod 4 class, as I see it this is the direction the class's are heading (Late Models and Thunders get faster every season). Every racer wants to go faster but I really don't want to build a whole new car and don't want to change purchasing a bent car that won't handle right. The other point I should have made to the suspension mods is the cars may be safer as they will handle better on the race surface. It is really frusterating going from a fast car into something you know nothing about. I do know a thing or two about Thunder Cars and Late Models ;). Again just my opinions and want to hear others.
