What about the bunch-up restart rule?

Personally I kinda like the idea of a mixture of both!!! I would like to see the features extended to 40 laps and for the first 20 use the double up format and once the half way signal flies go to the 1-2-3 then double up format for any cautions. This way if they're happened to be an early caution it would give some of the guys a chance to gain a few positions if they were willing to try the outside groove. And over the last 20 using the single file would eliminate some of the doubt about guys bringing about a caution to just try there luck on a restart. Just an idea dont know if it would work or not but I'm kinda with STATSMAN on the passing should be made under green flag conditions part of it especially at crucial times in the race.

The first time I saw the " scramble start " I hated it but now that I have watched it for awhile I see some pros and cons .

Pros - it tightens up the field and ads some strategy to the restart ,

Cons - I see guys changing their minds after the fact and for it to work once you have chosen inside or outside they cant let guys change their minds .

Single file restarts are horrible on a short track . If your a fast car that gets spun by someone like Showstopper and have to go to the back you end up being over half a lap or more behind the lead cars on the restart. The first 3 single file and the rest doubled up rule was not pulled out of the air . It was found to be the best way to avoid wrecks on restarts and that is why it has been the standard for almost 50 years.

i like blkflagagain has said as an idea. Extend the Late model races and use the first half of the race to double up like that then the second half I would rather them double up as in 1st inside, 2nd outside 3rd inside 4th outside and so on just as if it were the start of the race. I love to watch the races when they are close like that. The 1st 2nd and 3rd place cars on a 1,2,3 double up format usually tend to break away too far from the field, then when somebody gets through they are way too far behind to do anything about cathcing the leader. As far as handicapping goes i love when the fast cars have to get through from the back. I did it last weekend in the charger feature to win and man it is fun finding your way to the front. I bet the Late Model drivers who are fast and at the back like to win from the back alot more as opposed to winning from the pole. Thats my take on it all...Wrecks will always happen no matter how they restart or no matter who is in the race because in every division at every track there are usually one or two boneheads that will make a bonehead move and cause some serious carnage

Great feedback guys, thanks for all your interest.

I think the idea of changing the rules for the last half or maybe the last 10 laps is interesting and might be more fair for the guys that are up front while still entertaining the fans early on. Even NASCAR gets rid of the lapped cars at the end of the race.

As for Keith benefiting, like I said this is my opinion and if you check the wayback history you will know I once was the chief scorer at the speedway back when my dad still co-owed a car, so I proved that I could think and act independently a long time ago. Now I just think a little slower but damn I was fast back then :):):) well maybe not so fast in the ministock.

I also said I  think this rule helps the fast cars more than it should by giving them the opportunity of a free pass. As I recall Keith made his way from the back pretty regularly back in 2003 and 2004 without the rule course that was in the mostly pre-Crate era.
Whether radios are needed on a short track without pit stops is a whole 'nother topic of discussion. Maybe next week 🙂

Can't argue with the points made about making the restarts more interesting for the fans though.

One think I see more of a trend to  is where earlier in the year only the guys who could go high and reasonably expect to pass would take the chance and now I see alnost everyone doing it to avoid losing positions so I think the days of gaining a bunch of spots are pretty much over.

That just means more chance of an incident though with the field all bunched up like that after the drivers have been all wound up by racing some part of the feature.  And yes I know that restarts don't crash racecars, drivers crash racecars 😉

i thought it was awesome the first time i saw you guys try it....now, it looks as though it's become more of a gimmick that hasn't really gotten over with the fans
