The Victory Lap should certainly be brought back!!  Both for the benefit of the fans, and drivers, not to mention the sponsors.  I for one, can't imagine why it seemed like a good idea to do away with it.  The fact that not all tracks have stands around the entire track, I see as irrelevant.  There are at least a few Cup tracks that don't have grandstands around the full length of the track.

IMO the Victory Lap is a perfect way for a driver to celebrate the win, the fans to have a good look at the car, and show their support, and this should also be viewed as additional advertising for the sponsors on the car.  I don't buy the time issue at all, its one lap, for ONE car....big deal!  All that is required to put the 'time' issue to rest is a little organization, as I've yet to see a track that doesn't have at least a little down time between races as it is.  As a kid, I was always excited to see my favourite driver pick up the checkered flag.  This is a great loss of positive showmanship in this sport.

Well said, and form the sponsors prospective I can see it meaning something...but as for me being a fan b4a racer I don;t think I would care either way...to be honest....

I think in general that some things are missing from the old days that should be brought back. The parade lap of all the cars before the races (and the drivers waved to the fans and the fans waved back), the victory lap, more fan - drivers interaction, that kind of thing. If we want to keep the fans we have and get more fans too I think that things like this should be looked at. How can you make a die hard hard fan for yourself? If I think back to when I was a kid, the drivers that spoke to me and signed stuff for me were my heroes on the track... Never really mattered how they did, I would still go for those guys.
