Barrie speedways new rule.
Any team found using traction control of any kind will be disqualified for the remainder of the season, Forfeiting all points and funds received up to and including that point in time. Barrie speedway deems this offence serious enough to request that further penalties be issued by NASCAR through their offices in Concord, North Carolina and/or Daytona, Florida. Further penalties and banning will result and may be honoured through the Ontario Track Operator’s Association.
now a posi rear end is a traction control device
Limited Slip Differentials, Posi-Traction (Posi, Posis)
Limited Slip and positraction (posi) differentials are designed to "limit" the tendency of open differential to send power to a wheel that lacks traction and redirect the power to a degree to the other wheel of the axle. The Limited Slip and Positraction differential will send power to both wheels equally when traveling straight, however when one wheel spins due to a lack of traction, the differential will automatically provide torque to the other wheel with traction. Limited Slip and Positraction (posi) differentials limit the loss of torque to a slipping wheel through various mechanisms such as clutches, gears cones, and other methods dependant on the unit. The limited slip and positraction will not provide 100% lock up of the differential in extreme situations such as when a wheel completely looses traction. Limited Slip and Positraction (posi) differentials are recommended for daily driven vehicles and are used in many applications where traction is sometimes needed as in emergency vehicles. They are also ideal for front axles of 4x4 vehicles that are not equipped with front hubs that can be disengaged. The term "positraction" ("posi" for short) was used by General Motors years ago for their limited slip differential and has been used to refer to limited slips since.
😮 🙂
That is all true but I don't get your point. I would imagine that given the desperate attempts being made to DQ the RRR 10 car, the rule is aimed at the Two V8 classes but Posi rear ends have always been banned in Thunders and Lates models anyway, nobody is dumb enough to run an LSD or a locker surely. Spools have been teched already this year in Thunders (although I feel maybe they should be checked in LLM too -cough- ).
Are you meaning that some of the 4-banger cars had OEM LSDs installed and so they should be allowed to run with them? I agree actually if it was specific to the exact model being used as verified by VIN number reference. You specifically mention rear-end so I assume you mean yours? Which 2.3 Mustang had an LSD? The Turbo? I really don't know.
If somebody wants to run Posi in a race car at Barrie go for it, it wont work. Some guys have tried it, its for controling your car on ice and snow.
You dont want that on a race track, it doesnt work properly. You need all them wheels turning on a race car. I dont think anyone has that in their car, I think its a driver and car that are matched well together and a great head behind it all.
Wasnt it 10 years ago that snot-rocket thing cleaned our clocks?? I guess RRR would not have learned even more in that time ::)
But yea haha Jason I get your point, just another can of worms!
Yea, Charlie is right, a hard locker is no use when the hammer is down (although it will make a RWD car far more stable going in under brakes and through the center) but LSD's with adjustable plates are something else.
The new ruling does sound rather verbose, especially the whiney "I'll tell my Mommy" thing with Nascar but I agree that LSD's have no place in the V8 classes.
You need all them wheels turning on a race car.
not Barrie but both a fwd and rwd mini-stock with open diff have won features at Flamboro this year
