Ok the 20 min rundown for ya.. Might be a little sketchy, as I do have lots of notes but cant possibly tell all the details of the race before I go to work in an hour but I"ll try my best.

Don Thomson Jr. of Ayr, Ontario would capture the 300 lap NCATS race surviving a thrilling late race battle with #9 Mark Dilley of Barrie who went on to finish 2nd..Dilley almost got under Donnie out of 2 on the very last lap, but he elected to protect 2nd as the pair raced into corner 3.

The race started off with #95 Anthony Simone setting quick time to sit on the pole ( his 1st ever) with a clocking of 14.351 sec. covering the tight and tricky 1/3rd mile tri oval.. Dilley would make up the front row for the drop of the green qualifying 2nd fastest in 14.354 seconds. #22 Scott Steckly was 3rd quick in 14.422 seconds.

At the start of the race, Dilley charged into the lead from the outside when the first caution came out on lap 2 as #55 Dexter Stacey spun out of 4 with a suspected broken trailing arm. This would reverse the front row, bringing Simone to the outside of Dilley where they battled the first 10 laps side by side with neither gaining a clear cut advantage.

In behind, Thomson Jr. was picking up positions one by one, to find himself running in 6th after starting 9th in the 20 car field. First real notable turn of events was when #02 Kerry Micks now running 2nd, punted leader Dilley while racing out of 4 to take over the point. Dilley would get his revenge entering 2 on the very next lap laying the "chrome horn" to Micks in return and turning him around on the speedway. When the green did come out again both drivers were assessed stop and go black flag penalties, meaning both would be at the rear of the field, as Thomson Jr. by this time had taken over the lead from Simone at or near lap 60. 2nd place point man #17 DJ.Kennington had a tough night, having mechanical woes early on and going several laps down, as did point leader #27 Andrew Ranger later in the race with a broken axle.

Fast foward to the conclusion of the race when then leader Steckly had the bad break of the night, getting caught up in a tangle between Simone and #12 John Gaunt in turn 2. Steckly kinda stopped to avoid the stopped #95 car, but he did pile into the melee very minorly and was sent to the rear. Very tough break for the winner of both Barrie races in 2008, and he wasnt happy about the ruling!!LOL. Thomson Jr. and Dilley made up the front row for a restart with under 10 laps remaining. Once again Dilley had the outside working for him tonight, and moved to the lead. Thomson Jr.would then execute a bump and go move out of corner 4 with 5 laps remaining and took the lead once again, as Dilley got partially crossways.. Like I said earlier Dilley gave it a valiant effort out of 2 on the last lap, but it was not to be as the #4 Home Hardware Chevy cruised to victory by maybe 1 car length over Dilley at the checkered. #22 Scott Steckly came 3rd, with #19 Brad Graham, and #3 Jason Hathaway the top 5.

Absolutely huge crowd on hand. The place was pretty much jammed packed. Nice to see Donnie win one at Barrie after some really hard luck there in the last two or three years. Was really impressed with both Graham and Hathaway and the way they raced, keeping it clean the entire way and saving their stuff. Best ever finish of a 4th for Graham I think.. He's always run well at Barrie though, dating back to the Cascar Sportsman days

The Barrie Thunder feature won by #22 Jason Elliott in a caution free affair.. Someone finally broke the dominance of the #00 and #44 cars as they had won every feature to date before this one. Elliott had a full straightaway lead at one point, but the 44 closed in dramatically with 10 to go. Elliott drove a remarkable race on the outside as the leaders hit lapped traffic with 2 laps remaining. Doucette wasnt able to get much of a run at the 22 , who worked the high side with surgical percision over the duration. Doucette finished 2nd, with #40 Donny Brandon, #14 Thayne Hallyburton, and point leader #00 Darryl St. Onge the top 5. St. Onge just looked to be a little off on this evening, but with such a large point lead he didnt have to really press the issue either.

Heats went to the 44 of Doucette and #24 Leonard Johnston..

The Pure Stock feature started off rather slow, with 2 early cautions but after that it was clean and green the rest of the way.. #16 Bryan Penny took the lead early on and quickly found the hard charging duo of #91 Kyle Lethbridge and #37 Robbie Sikes on his back bumper. Lethbridge would take the lead on the outside at the midway point, as Sikes also manuvered around Penny's Prelude. Lethbridge and Sikes waged a ultra tough and clean battle over the final few laps, as each driver took their turn leading at the stripe. Once again leaders hit lapped traffic with 2 remaining and Lethbridge took advantage of the outside line, pinning Sikes behind the lappers on his way to victory for the 2nd week in a row. Sikes came home 2nd, with Penny, #90 Brandon Crumbie, and #98 Brent Stieler the top 5.

Crumbie a LLM regular was subbing for Jim MacDonald on this evening to keep him up inside the top 10 in the point standings. Heat wins went to point leader #2 Ben Melenhorst (who finished 6th in the feature) and Lethbridge....... THERE YOU HAVE IT..... FROM THE CHEAP SEATS

Sounds like some stuff will never change (Dilley and Micks shenanigans) But good to hear you guys had a hot crowd. Too bad for DJ though.

Thanks as always for the reports Blkflg

I had a great time. I brought my girlfriends 10 year old son, who had never been to a live race before. He was so excited he couldn't sit still and ran down to the fence on every restart to feel the full effect of all that horsepower unleashed. He got an autographed  hero card from every driver during the autograph portion before the race. It was cool to see a youngster become so excited over something I have enjoyed since I was his age. On a special note , it was great to meet Jason White in person and thank him for his generosity last year regarding a personal time for me . Also nice to chat with Dereck the photo dude too.
I am not privy to what has been happening on the pit side of things that has some teams leaving BSW but I really didn't see anything differant  in my perspective from when I attended the facilty on a weekly basis in recent years. Obviously the hard feelings between management and the teams do not filter into the stands but I truly hope as a long time fan of BSW that it all gets worked out and both Barrie area tracks continue  to operate to their full capability.  8)
So,  as always, it would have been better to see a larger field but 20 cars does seem to fill the track at BSW just fine to keep the race to a good ending time and not just caution after caution. They had close to a 100 lap stretch early caution free which helped with the festivities being over by 10 pm. As noted by an earlier poster it took some time to get out of the parking area but compared to being at Atlanta a few years back and not getting out until the next day, this was ok, I put on 1140 am from Virginia and listened to the last 100 laps of the Cup race while waiting in line for the exit. As for pricing, sure it was not cheap, but I didn't expect it to be either. I will definitly think about going to Kawartha for the finale now . Congrats to BSW and Nascar Canada for a great day at the races.
