I'm a bit confused guys. Are you saying your track went with some kind of "crate" engine for your TC other than a 602. If they did, like you suggest BarrieNxtGen#9, then they certainly didn't do their homework.

By the way Thunder6, the 602 and the 604 were designed to generate the same amount of torque and hp at 6000rpm  or less as your built/spec engine. That way you don't need to twist them 7000 rpm. Hence the reliability and long term cost savings.

That way all the knowledge you have to make a car handle and turn amount to something and quickly show the talent you have to drive.

How long do you guys run a built engine before you rebuild them?

Currently, my crate engine just finished it's 4th season.
Only regular maintenance for the first 3 years (oil change and lifter clearences).
Start of this year (year 4) new valve springs.
Engine runs as strong as any new or used crate engine on our track.
Dyno numbers on the older crate engine and new crate engines are near identical after 4 years.
So how does that compare to a built engine and it's  cost over 4 years?

Now just to make the car handle consistantly is the key.

i know for a fact the crate was tested against a new billy howard engine on the dyno and the power diffference was less than 5 hp. There is crates at the track that have run for 4 years now. This is a bullet proof engine and dont think any have blown up yet. I also think that they are only $3200 but that should be verified by the track.

I know that the crate motor in my car cost a little over $4000.0 and sure I seems to run well, I just can't hang on with any of the built motors. Do the crates get stronger over time or stay close to the same??

Perhaps there could be a few reasons why your not as quick, maybe your not geared right?? or perhaps your set up is not right?? You have to ajust your car almost every race night as track conditions change weekly, and you have to keep up with these change's

I bought Larry Woodwards car and I had about an hour to try and change it to suit my driving style, and over the past couple of weeks I've been gaining about a tenth each week by continuing to adjust the car, Im down to 15.8 now not to far of the front runners times and I have a crate motor, I think it is possible to keep up with a built motor if you can get the car set up just right... but that's just my opinion.
