Flamboro has great tech. although the rules are very basic, and most of you guys hate them. Glen does a fantastic job at keeping the class equal, and there is no fancy formula that involves using a dyno. It just involves actually teching the cars...
Top cars at Flanboro run Ziex 912's at roughly $70 each retail. And the top cars will handle as good as anyone, anywhere running a street tire. We are however, very underpowered down the straight. But at the smaller, tighter tracks where handling is most important, we're still competitive.
I still run a first gen CRX, with a .030" over (otherwise BONE STOCK) engine, which was dyno'd at 96 HP at the wheels) with fuel injection, which is bolt on about 16HP according to spec over the carb. The rev limiter is around 7400 on FI, and with the carb, this engine will turn over 9000RPM's and pull evenly all the way too it. At flamboro, those 2 setups run identical lap times, but I'm forced to shift with the rev limiter, and 1 missed shift can ruin your race, so we run carb'd.
So...my point is, if you use a HP=weight formula, my carb'd setup would dominate over the FI, on the exact same car. That would make no sense.
Just a thought. I don't race in this class anymore but what if you set a lap time rule. It simple you go over the lap time you get weight I know that in the past some mini's could run close to slow thunder lap times. Brings everyone closer and you know where the limit is.
If weight is not something that would work the why not try a restrictor plate?? Not sure what the cost would be since there is so many diffrent manufacturers out but it may be a way to keep things tighter. You could set the base lap time that you want for the class the experiment with diffrent plates to get to that time. Just another thought it may be to difficult to bring in but you never know right.
Good stuff guys, at Flamboro most of the class runs between 19.3 and 19.9 with a few exceptions. Would be nice to find a way to keep all cars in that range there. .6 with different makes and skills levels is pretty cool
400Trans, with all being in good fun, I believe the team you ran for along with Stormin Normin had the drama department covered back in the day. I was the least of anyones worries!
Now as for my CRO behavior, thats another matter 😀
