I don't like the new name. Barrie Speedway sounds much better. "Park" and "Speedway" don't mix well in my opinion.
In the 80's they changed Delaware from Delaware International Speedway to Delaware Speedway Park.
It didn't last long.
They can call it whatever they want, but they'll have to realize everyone's just going to keep calling it Barrie Speedway.
They shouldn't be changing things this late in the seaosn, but look what they did with the Thunder Cars title sponsor, they all had St. Onge Recreation on their windsheilds in the mall shows, now they have to change it to XCOPPER.
And why haven't they updated the Drivers Profile Pages?? They had that done just after the mall show last year.

The name “Delaware Speedway Park” if I recall lasted into the year 2000. It did have some staying power, I still hear it from time to time. I even think that the sign over the front gate still says "Delaware Speedway Park".
The “Delaware International Speedway” name also has staying power. I've heard the speedway referred to it fairly often, especially from fans who have supported the track for a long time.
Branding speedway is nothing new... "Lowes Motor Speedway", "Lucas Oil Flamboro Speedway" (for a time)... If rebranding the track was completely necessary, I personally would have favoured something more along the lines of "St. Onge Recreation Barrie Speedway" or "Barrie Speedway presented by St. Onge Recreation", but its not my home track, so I don't have a lot of built up history to look at.
Either way you look at it, its going to be a mouthful for their announcer! 😉
The real truth is that The track has done a deal just like flamboro, and many other places to raise revenue, truth be know the track s.b called oro speedway oro spelt backwards is oro.,but if some-one laid big bucks in your lap and asked you to change your name from mike smith to mike oxlong you would do it ,so don't give me this warm and fuzzy stuff ,Barrie this and that.A new scoreboard and tower is what the track needs.Also l think this Nascar driver bit is a scam, every driver at Barrie is a Nascar driver. St.Onge sunk a lot of money in the track and took out Coats so good luck to him I am told the real truth will be the track name is tied in with Skidoo or Kawasaki or Honda or whatever they sell,and the park bit is for future expansion,they bought 100 acres around the track for a drag strip ,go karts and moto cross.
