how do you think drivers who beat and bang around way too often should be punished? Should there be penalties if a driver blatantly causes a wreck that causes an injury? Should a driver be suspended for cousing an injury? Should a driver be given the three strikes and your out method for causing wrecks which the track deems are on purpose? let us know your personal views
Almost every sereis has a penalty for ruff driving, but it hardly ever used on small ovals. Places like Barrie are tight and racers do get a little upset trying to pass there.
In allot of cases, the bump and run is used, and this is not looked at as ruff driving, just a way to pass if the guy ahead of you if he is slower and wont give up the line.
If the driving exeeds the point of contact by raming the other car he is normally given a warning flag- if he does it again he will get the black flag and one of the following penalty's.
1. Restart at the longest line of lead lap cars.
2. Start at the very last spot on the restart.
3. Parked for the night.
4. A stop and go on pit road if the track has one.
5. A punch in the side of the head from the guy he spun !!
My Opionion is use the number 5 rule and let them slug it out on the track.
I think the fans will vote for the #5 rule to be in effect. It's sort of "I was watching this boxing match and a hockey game broke out...."
Every track has the rules in place but tend to turn a blind to it until it gets out of hand, the fans love the rough stuff, it puts the fans in the stands.
JMHO.
Greasemonkey.
A good example of the ruff driving penalty was used at Barrie last year in the CASCAR race. DJ Kennington, running second, was black flaged for spinning out Thomson, who was running first.
The Black was thrown at DJ and he was credited with the last spot on the lead lap even though he won the race. This Ruff Driving penalty was unjust in my eyes because the race directors pointed DJ out without looking at what really happened.
If you were to go back 200ft from where the 17 & 4 car got into it, you would understand why this was a bad call.
The re-cap: Everyone is stacked up going into turn 1, the 84 runs into the back of the 9- the 9 gets shoved into the 17, and the 17 runs into the 4.
Is that ruff driving or just a case of carshing domino's.
And that is why most starters do not like to throw the black flag for ruff driving because they rarely see the whole thing. The only time it is safe to call a ruff driving deal is when the ruff driving driver is running with mayby 1 or 2 cars, then you can see and say what happened. Just think about how many times you have heard a Race Driver say after the crash, " I just got spun by the 2 car- he was beat'n on me all day and finnaly turned me around. There is always next week, and payback is a bitch" !!
Okay- you here that every race, but how many times have you ever seen that statement followed up by a Ruff Driving penalty.... RARELY !!
Just a note- On that day at Barrie, Donny was going to use the ruff driving rule #5,
but the officials would not let him near the 17 of DJ.
Here is a better question for you fans- Name the car number or driver in the following series that you consider to be a ruff driver.
NASCAR CUP?
NASCAR BUSCH?
NASCAR TRUCKS?
NASCAR CTS?
I used NASCAR because they are the largest racing body that everyone knows about and watches.
well with Barrie recently in the regular divisions. especially charger class. one specific driver not to mention any names has hurt 2 drivers with blatant stupid accidents 2 weeks in a row. how should that be penalized? although for the 2nd one he was parked for the night...do you think he should get a suspension? what if next time he hurts somebody even worse. Should he be taught a harsh lesson now? as for the cup series, Montoya has been the most aggressive. Busch series, would have to go with Montoya again....Truck series a couple of guys are aggressive. but i'd have to go with Musgrave as he likes to push people out of the way sometimes. As for the canadian tires eries. i would not know because i haven't seen a race since last year...
