is this an invi for pure stocks as well, or a points night?
I know the printed sched on the website shows the Pure Stocks on the race card, but from what I was told the 4 bangers will be off that night.. Its strictly an open invitational for Thunders and LLMs.. Dont quote me with 100 percent certainty on that but I hear thats the way its gonna go..
Yes we are going, it will be a busy week, running Sunset on the 18th, the Shoot Out at Flamboro on the 20th, then Barrie on the 23rd and back to Sunset on the 25th.....I am very much looking forward to the Barrie show, haven't been on the new track. The last time I was a t Barrie we won the CVM feature by half an inch over Steve Lyons. It was the first time in my racing career that we went around the track twice after the checker before they knew who won. When they pointed the flag at us it was Christmas morning.
I will have autograph cards for sure, and glad to be part of this very special night in memory of Garry Reynolds.
PS....Thank you blkflagagain!!
No thanks necessary Gary, just keep representing our sport in the manner you do and thats thanks enough for me.. ;).. Glad to hear your coming up to Barrie, I think I've only seen you in a Late Model maybe twice, once at Sauble and once at Flammy a few years back.. I'm sure I've seen you race many times in the CVM but there was a period of time back in the 90s when I was away from the tracks so memory kinda fails there.. That sounds like a whale of a race you and Lyons put on in your last Barie start.. Any idea what year that would of been approx?? Track was reconfigured at the end of 2004, so I'm guessin it was a year or two before that??
And your right alot of racing going in a two week stretch there.. I beleive Sunset also scheduled its rained out MRE race for the Sun following the Reynolds race as well.. So for a guy like Bentley who apparently plans to run them all that could mean a 75 lapper the Wed before the Reynolds race, then regular 30 Sat night at Sunset, 100 lap Reynolds race the Thurs at Barrie, back to a 30 lapper Sat night at Sunset again, and then the 3rd McColl 75 lap race the following day... WOW!! Thats alot of racing!! Hope everything stays together for any Sunset cars that are indeed running the MRE series over that time period.. This is kinda what made me question if we'd see any Sunset cars like Morrow and Walters that are also running the MRE series show up at Barrie for the Reynolds Memorial.. In an ideal world I'd like to see the Reynolds race earlier in the week like a Tues or Wed (if it stays a mid week race, Sunday is also good) to allow teams more time to fix it for the weekend at their home track if they do indeed wreck at BSW... I'll work on that for next season.. 😉
The feature win came in the fall of 2004, my last full time year with the CVM.
This years schedules are incredible, but I love it. Here is what we have planned:
Racing July 11th, 14th, 21st, and 28th, at Sunset, and we have appearances on July 11th in Burlington Alliance Church in the morning for a kids camp, July 15th in New Market GM store New Roads, July 17th at a Church Barbeque in Hamilton, then July 20th in Toronto for a sponsor trade show and finally July 27th in St Thomas for another kids camp.
As of July 10th we've had 10 race nights and 8 appearances.
In August, we have the double header at Sunset 4th and 5th, then we're taking our car to a Teen Camp near Brighton for four days at a place called Wesley Acres until Aug 10th, doing a racing seminar with the teens. We are racing the 11th, (TBA) 15th, (MRE) 18th, (Sunset) 20th, (Flamboro) 23rd (Barrie) 25th Sunset, 26th (MRE). On the 19th we go to Wasaga Beach for another kids show on a Sunday morning.
Some seasons I have felt I didn't race enough, but this year I should get my fill and be satisfied.
September 2, 3, 9, 16, 23-25 (Sunset), Octoberfest at Flamboro and then Autumn Colors...then rebuild and make our car more competitive for 2013. I do think I will be tired by then but a good kind of tired because it's from racing lol.
If the weather and safe driving pervail, we could have over 30 race nights this year, and 15 plus shows. The last time I had a 30 race season was in 1995 (32). The most race nights in our 44 years was 1990 (39). I was younger then, but didn't love it anymore than I do now. We have a few things we'd like to do before we retire (that's not planned for the near future)....win a LM Championship and win a feature race that is 75 or 100 laps. Finished 2nd many times, no wins over 40 laps. Not giving up on that goal, but the competition is incredible at every track, but that's good for the fans.
My only beef is the LLM Crate engine rule....I don't think it exists at any track in Ontario, certainly not the way it was intended.....We are very happy with the move to Sunset Speedway, and though it's been a tough season we thoroughly enjoy every week, especially the way we have been treated by fans, staff and competitors. 🙂
