so what were the "clarifications"?Bad move with two way radios, was considering Barrie if the right changes were made, but apparently Barrie doesn't need more thunder cars, from what I have heard about rules from ALL the tracks, I might be better off selling it.

Agree 100% about the 2 ways. Idiots cant drive without the mirror as it is......

Some of the Clarifications concerned "rules" that wernt in the rulebook.
Per barries rules, the rules that most people have followed; "The word stock when used herein, shall mean unaltered, as factory available and produced by the OEM for the make, model and year of the car being raced"

1:"All suspension and frame components must be STOCK for the make, model, and year of the car, with no modifications". The clarification here was IF you knew about it, you could run any centerlink, tie rods, pittman and idler, as long as they bolted in stock mounts.
Wish we knew about that one, ALL stock junk besides for the astro spindles, and i was really wondering why we were getting beat through the center so bad...

2: "ENGINE MOUNTS O.E.M. or solid steel allowed. Engine location must remain stock." BUT if you "couldnt close your hood" you could lower your engine (?). Apparently when the manifolds touch the frame rails you cant go any lower. 😛

Those 2 rules go hand in hand because there was a car a few years ago that came into tech and because the engine had been lowered because of "hood clearance issues" (im sure) it "HAD" to run the 85-88 Camaro IROC Z28/Trans Am GTA centerlink (everyone take note of that, you also need the same model inner tie rods) because THE BALANCER WAS RUBBING ON THE METRIC CENTERLINK. mmmmmmmhhhhmmmmm, im sure that lowering the motor and changing the centerlink was all so the hood would close properly.... So any "GM" front end parts were then legal.
So that info got around to a select few (4 out of 9 at the meeting) everyone else was following the rule book, the printed copy anyways.
Its kind of funny, because the tech man who won a thunder championship, has been around barrie forever, and has been teching for 3 years, was ready to disqualify a car with a camaro centerlink. If a TECH MAN didnt know it was legal, how the f is everyone else supposed to know??

3: Even though you can run what looks like a downforce cup car in thunder at barrie with no issues, ANY other chassis than metric MUST run a complete, full steel, unmodified body. IE chevelle chassis, chevelle body. Which is ridiculous. 8 cars all year and 2 or 3 others cant come to barrie because they cant buy a 5000 dollar car and slice the body off.

4: There is NO compression rule at Barrie, as long as the heads are 70 ccs. So have fun with that...

5: 50% rear weight is "fine". Tech proposed 46%, which MIGHT HAVE brought some older cars back into the fold. Considering you cant run lead behind the axle, i honestly dont know even with a set back cage how somone would get a car up 50% way and not weigh 3400lbs (we were 47.3 @3280lbs with 1/2 tank, with 200lbs in front of the housing). They need to start drilling rear frame rails and seeing whats in there...

6: Giving automatics a 100lb weight break was brought up, (lowering the base weight to 3000 with an auto, 3100 std, 3150 with std and rear disc) but that was shot down by tech. 3300lb+ plus cars with stock rotors and ball joints are just fine when they are running 4/10ths off late model times.
Great, tanks with no compression rule, lead hanging all over the place, blocking with 2 way radios, any abortion body (unless its not a metric that is, then itll be 100% stock tank with chrome bumpers) Lowered engines, heated and bent mish mash of front end parts, running on "bald" (read slick) recap tires. They need more fencing down there.

We left before the end, so im not sure what else was talked about. I was going to ask about chains or snubbers acting like a panhard bar on the rear end housing, cause thats not in the rules either, but the inmates were running the asylum by that point.

Thunder Cars are dead.

I get tired of reading Don Hart complaining about the cost of racing because of rule changes but the bottom line is he is very right.Radios in thunder cars is brutal,no offence but I don't think Barrie has enough cars to warrant raceceivers.Every track changing rules even more what the f##k,do promoters not get it the only thing that needs to be changed is the promoters getting together and coming up with common rules for each division.Every track is very guilty of this and then ask everybody how are we going to get more cars out.And by the way they better start teching motors better it's Way out of control.I understand cheating will take place in racing always has always will but when promoters do nothing to stop it gets way out of control.Just the way I see it as a fan sorry just a " Big Race Fan".

barrie announced a new class...the jyd's (junk yard dogs) and as they were explaining it, my dad...who has been racing cars and or helping out at barrie and sunset since 1978.....leaned over to me during the explination and said " i remeber having the exact same meeting 25 years ago" in regards to the steet stocks, which were malibus, montes camaros, chevelles ect. that were the same as the 6cylinder fwd they wanna run next year.....i love the idea as the jyd's sound like fun and a resonable way to get into the game.... the only issue i can pick out with them is they have a claim rule on the car which they had before on the 4cylinders back when they started.....which is good....but i honestly think they need a tire claim rule.....$100 bucks and a guy can claim your tires.....or a guy pays $100 and the track claims them.....whichever works..... i like the new class and think it would be great to slap something togther to have fun with..... i know my dad isnt the only old dude that remebers having that chat either.....
