i just got it from the horses mouth: dave simpson is no longer an owner! the guy had his heart in the place and had big plans for us, i guess we'll see how the track is run this year from the BMC. even linda from the gate is gone. i don't have a good feeling about this! well, thanks to dave and linda for your dedication and genuine interest in us.
+1 Jim... I also am a little apprehensive about '09.
This makes my fur stand on end, what next ?
well, thanks to dave and linda for your dedication and genuine interest in us.
+1 Jim
Now that you mention it, I was very impressed by Merrittville... and I never even got around to the stands side...
I think getting back to the roots is a great idea... but I am realistic too. It's all about the money now I'm thinking. Unfortunately in this era of TV and Internet I can't see making really big gains in getting new fans in the stands unless big changes are made.
Allowing fans to enjoy an inexpensive evening without the owners worrying about boosting concessions sales would be a great start in my opinion.
Tex Back a couple years ago when JP was celabrating what i think was the 40th anniversary of pbo speedway,on opening night in april ,you know how cold it is still at that time of year,he allowed everyone in to general admission for FREE. Thats right, nobody paid one cent to get in and was the place packed. He advertised the occasion everywhere he could. I've yet to see a busier night anywhere. So special promotions like this do work, just think of the people that had never been to a race before,so now they have a chance to watch a night of racing for free ,they probably thought why not. I'm sure that more than a few of these people have made the race track their regular sat. night hangout and can now be called race fans.
