When it comes to this year’s running of the Garry Reynolds Memorial, there has been one important change to the line-up. Last year, it was an invitational just for the Late Models, well it was a points night for the other divisions. However, due to popular demand, this year’s event will have a 100 lap Late Model inivitational, along with a 50 lap invitational for the Thunder Cars.
In speaking with Barrie Speedway owner Diane Cunningham, the idea of adding another division to the line-up was because the race is meant to not just honor Reynolds, but any driver who we have lost over the years.
Now on to the list of drivers…….
Coming off of his feature win last Saturday night, Dave Doucette will be looking to add another win.
Points leader Rick Walt was in search of a possible Late Model deal, though may be there with his Thunder Car. He currently has seven feature wins in 12 starts.
Fellow front runner Jim Belesky was one driver that many had pinned as being part of the show. Though a mechanical issue last Saturday night may keep the Polish Prince from being in attendance. He is another driver that had been looking at a possible Late Model deal.
Barrie Speedway rookie Travis Hallyburton was hoping to make an appearance, however won’t be able to due to waiting for a part to come in following a breakage on Saturday night.
Not confirmed, but likely to be there is Desi Walt as she has been running her Thunder Car this year, while also running some Late Model races.
Among those listed, Brian Murray, Mike Langley and Daryl St. Onge will be joining the entry list.
Sunset Speedway’s Matt Bentley has confirmed that he will be in attendance following a top three finish at Barrie earlier this year. Bentley has had a solid season at Sunset, finishing in the top 10 each night except for one night.
Another Sunset driver joining Bentley is Herb Walters. Walters has had a successful year at Sunset, too, winning three features and scoring eight top 10 finishes.
Coming off of his first top 10 feature finish, Sunset’s Brian Wilson Jr. is excited about trying a different track.
Running a part-time schedule this year, Marty Monette has marked this date on his calendar. Monette is always a threat to win no matter what.
Sauble’s Joe Adams will also be in attendance. He currently sits sixth in points after missing a couple of nights, though is considered legitimate threat as each invitational he attends. He could be joined by fellow Sauble driver Ken Grubb.
This is only the confirmed drivers as there could be more there beyond what has been discussed in the past two weeks. The only thing that is certain is it will be a good show that any fan will not want to miss. With the grandstand general admission being $15.00 and there also being a Thunder Car invitational on hand, too, it is expected that attendance will be high.
