Barrie night 5 - Maiato and DenHollander take first feature wins of 2010

Ok after a one week hiatus its time for the 20 min rundown this evening.. Nice efficient night, racing started at 7pm sharp and was completed by 9:10pm.. Really helped that both the LLM 30 lap features went caution free.. Can remember having a single caution free feature, but NEVER two in the same night.. Me thinks the closed door drivers meeting played a rather large part in that.. ;)Ok onto the racing where the track again would see a few first time feature winners, as #3 Ken Denhollander took the Thunder main, in what amounted to his first ever feature win.. Nice to see a class act like Kenny finally bag one.. In Pure Stocks it was #15 Charlie Smith taking the 20 lap feature as a substitute driver for the current point leader Will Davies, who had a prior commitment and couldnt be in attendance.. Charlie also won a heat race, but didnt make the start for his 2nd heat in what I believe might of been an electrical or starter issue..Not a bad night for Chuckles all in all, as he took his first Barrie feature win in a 4 banger and first since winning the Thunder Car Mid Season championship of 2007.In the Late Model division, as mentioned earlier both 30 lap features went green to checkered and the night was capped off with #6 Keith Maiato of Caledon taking the win in the second feature from pole position, despite heavy pressure over the last 10 laps from the current point leader #69 Al Inglis.. Maiato, would get the jump on #22 Rob Inglis from the drop of the green, and by lap 4 #69 Al Inglis would charge to the inside of the 22 to take over 2nd.. This move would lead the way for #8 Dave Lewis to take over 3rd..Approaching 5 to go, Inglis was all over the back bumper of Maiato and looked to the inside of the #6 TripleCrete Monte Carlo SS racing down the frontstretch.. Maiato, would remain poised at the front and was able to halt the 69's momentum to record his 2nd LLM feature win at Barrie, and first of the 2010 season.. Inglis ran a smart race as to not turn Maiato over the final 10 laps in finishing 2nd, thus maintaining the point lead.. #8 Dave Lewis would finish 3rd, with #10 Gord Shepherd and #57 Ron Quesnelle rounding out the top 5.In the first 30 lapper, it was pole sitter #57 Ron Quesnelle moving out front after getting the early advantage on the 10 of Shepherd from the drop of the green.. Shepherd, would quickly fall back into the clutches of Lewis, who was able to negoiate his way past on the inside entering turn 1.. By this point in the race, Quesnelle had opened up a half straightaway lead, turning laps in the 14.8 sec. range. Shepherd, battled back and executed a brilliant outside pass of Lewis to retake the runner up post, as that duo raced out of corner 2 just shy of the midway mark. Over the late going, the 69 of Inglis and #5 Steve Quesnelle were waging war for the 4th position, in a battle eventually won by Inglis..At the finish it was #57 Ron Quesnelle easily taking the win by almost a full straightaway.. Shepherd would finish 2nd , with Lewis, Inglis, and Steve Quesnelle comprising the remainder of the fast five.. 10 Lates in attendance once again...In Thunder Car it was DenHollander who drove a miraculous and clean race, in charging from his 8th place starting position to take his first ever feature win over a very game #9 of Chris Burrage who finished 2nd.. #99 Rick Walt set the pace in the early going, with DenHollander locked in a side by side battle with the 24 of Leonard Johnston for 2nd.. This was clearly not a night to be out front as Walt would retire to the infield with mechanical gremlins on lap 9, and then one lap later the 24 of Johnston spun to the infield grass racing out of 4, handing the point to the stout DenHollander ride.. I really don't know what caused the 24 to spin to the infield and eventually retire??? Can you shed any light on that LENNY?? Denhollander, now had his mirror full of the duo of #12 Jim Belesky and #14 Thayne Hallyburton, who had progressed to 2nd and 3rd respectively..On lap 22, Hallyburton drove hard to the inside of Belesky racing into turn 1, with the ensuing contact between the pair spinning Belesky, with both sent to the for the restart and only 8 laps remaining.. "The Prince" would have a few words for Hallyburton on track, but I'm sure the pair worked things out in the pits post race.. I don't think it was intentional on the part of the 14, just trying a little too hard and accidents like that happen at times.. These two drivers have had some of the cleanest and meanest battles over the past 3 weeks and it would be a shame to see the respect lost for each other after this incident.. The Thunders as a whole seem to have the utmost respect for one another, so lets keep that effort going guys.. On the restart DenHollander would power to the front of Burrage, after a solid lap and a half side by side.. Also on the move was the super fast rookie #38 Steeve Melson, who seemed to be biding his time seeing how the race be...

Thanks to Will Davies for letting me drive that amazing little neon, made me look like I knew what I was doing, and thanks to Al Penny, Shane, and everyone who helped with the belt and battery issues.

Wow, draws for free gas and tires in the drivers meeting, I cant believe people arent giving Barrie another shot! The nice part is a nice 9 pm finnishing time!!

Way to go Charlie/ we all know youv got what it takes , know what your doing ,just need the motor in your car .Nice of you to work together with Willy

I still can't beleive I just read this....I wish Marty was still allowed on here, I think he would have a hay-day.

Marty is banned??? That sucks if so, but at least I can still chat him up on facebook.. I missed the Hall of Fame posting of his... :'(
