Barrie Night 2 -- Red Rocket Dominates

Ok 20 min rundown time again.. In LLM action, #69 Al Inglis of Orillia would capture both 30 lap feature segments on this night, and looks to be the fastest car on the track in the initial weeks. The 69 really hooks up well at the tight Barrie confines and is especially smooth in 1&2 where he usually gets most of his passing done..In the first 30, it was the 6 of Keith Maiato and the 10 of Gord Shepherd battling door handle to door handle for the first few laps. Maiato would develop a push out of corner 4 on lap 5, allowing Shepherd to power past along the outside leading the way for Inglis and #8 Dave Lewis to follow, after that duo started 5th and 7th respectively.. Shepherd would hold the lead until lap 10, when Inglis made the winning move, passing the defending champ to the inside racing out of 2. After the only restart on lap 12, Lewis would find his way inside of Shepherd as well, eventually clearing him to take over the runner up spot.. Inglis would cruise to the win with laps in the 14.7 sec. range, edging Lewis by about 2 car lengths at the finish. Shepherd would finish 3rd, with Maiato and #5 Steve Quesnelle making up the fast five.The 2nd 30 was a bit more dicey than the first, and especially towards the end when the top 4 would exchange positions multiple times. It started with the Quesnelle brothers making up the front row, as #57 Ron Quesnelle would gain the early advantage on brother Steve.. Shepherd was quick to find the front as well, getting up along side the door of the #5 and while racing out of 4 contact was made between the two,with only the 5 summoned to the rear as it was deemed he cut across the nose of Shepherd. Inglis, would then stake claim to the front of the field quickly moving to the runner up post, leading the way for Lewis to follow to 3rd in behind of leader Ron Quesnelle. After a mid race restart, Quesnelle again would power to the front with laps in the 14.8 sec. range. The 2nd place car of Inglis got shuffled back in the running order while on the outer groove, as he was passed by both Lewis and Shepherd to the inside. On lap 18, Lewis would take the lead from Quesnelle and hold it for 6 laps until he was passed to the inside by Shepherd between 3&4 on lap 24.. This is where the race would turn interesting, as with just a couple to go Lewis would nudge Shepherd racing out of 4, getting him crossways with Lewis showing a great deal of class in allowing him to gather it up.. This set the stage once again for Inglis, who manuvered past the lead duo on the outside during this course of events, and the veteran would notch the checkered from there.. 2nd to Shepherd, 3rd to Ron Quesnelle, 4th Steve Quesnelle and 5th to Maiato.. Lewis would end up in 6th, after slowing to allow Shepherd to gather it up after the contact on lap 27.. 9 cars took green, with the notable omission from Week 1 being the #22 of Rob Inglis.. New face in the field tonight as #91 Don "The Hitman" Hart a former Peterborough champ made his first start of 2010 and finished 7th in both features I believe. Some really good racing amongst the top 5 or 6 cars once again, and the 91 of Hart, 36 of Zutich and 49 of Woodward had some good tight race battles further back.Onwards and upwards to the Thunders where for the 2nd time this year the feature winner came in the form of #12 Jim Belesky of Carthew Bay. Big pile up on lap 2, as pole sitter and race leader #01 Tim Tremblay got loose in corner 2 and was tapped from the rear by #10 Ray Shepherd forcing a chain reaction pile up.. The most unfortunate victim was #38 Steeve Melson who looked to just be taking the lead on the outside when Tremblay slid up the track and got into him. This would force Melson to spin after a valiant attempt at a save down the backstretch.. Melson would then retire with what I would suspect was a broken trailing arm?? #24 Leonard Johnston would then take the lead after the restart, and he held it until Belesky passed him inside of 3 on lap 11,with a very daring move. Belesky drove home to the stripe from there, taking the win by about a half straightaway over Johnston at the finish. #3 Ken DenHollander finished 3rd for the 2nd week in sucession, with CRO's own #14 Thayne Hallyburton and #67 Jeff Smith rounding out the top 5.Four different heat winners as Belesky, Johnston, #9 Chris Burrage, and #38 Steeve Melson would all taste victory.. The win for Melson was his first in a Thunder Car, so way to go STEEVE-O!!! Tough break in the feature buddy but that's racin..In Pure Stocks it was #16 Bryan Penny taking the 20 lap feature win, with #19 Tim Foster, #15 William Davies, #115 Kevin Coulson, and #99 Drew Stieler rounding out the fast five. Heats to #91 Kyle Lethbridge with a pair. The #91 CRX would encounter some misfortune in the feature and would hit the wall after some light contact with the 23 of Terry Tomkins.. The whole melee ensued after the 99 of Stieler tried a 3 wide move that just wasnt there inside ...

Thunder6 and smiledtu Someone on the "Sunset Side" usually posts the car counts which Im glad as I was not at any track lastnight. I was wondering about counts to see if infact they were increasing. I want to see if things are IMPROVING so the second track in the area will thrive also. Its called CHOICE and I think its fair people have one. Now whos being Negative???? You shouldnt point fingers theres always some pointed back at you!

I personally could care less about car counts!! For Barrie give me 16-18 cars in all classes with 10-12 of those being reasonably competitive and I'm as happy as a pig in muck.. 😀 Sure I think I would and do enjoy the big specials like APC 300, Summer Sizzler, Sprint Car Nationals, Autumn Colors and such but look at the # of wrecks and damaged equipment at most of those races.. I hate long delays more than anything!!

Why does it matter? Did Barrie Speedway people here post how many "good" cars were here for the years of great Thunder Car action? I remember going to Sunset for years and 1/4 to 1/3 of the "count" wouldn't even make the feature because they "blew up".

You give away your real agenda and intentions by talking about the "second track".

Stop worrying about Barrie... things are already getting better with the hard work of Darryl St.Onge and the management. I'm sure they now understand the problems they have to resolve.

Car counts I hate to tell ya are a part of racing its a fact even the races on TV tell you how many cars took the green. Its a simple question and its one thats valid. I honestly hope the counts continue to increase cause as they do fans increase also. Not rubbing noses in anything just reminding people theres 2 tracks to choose from not 1 and would like to keep it that way. I went to Barrie at one point too remember?
