Its not over the top, It is EXACTLY what a technical official told me. I understand you guys are trying your best. And the new improvements at the track are amazing, but i dont think im alone with my feelings on this subject. Doing away with the 300 dollar tires was a start, lets keep that trend going.. I have about 10 stock 240 computers at home. I heard about the crate going around in a few different thunders. Lets try that same thing with computers in the minis?

Good luck with that. Computers are one of the easiest things to get around "stock" rules. The only way to make rules concerning computers would be harmonize them, which is just about impossible to do with all the different makes. Why do you think NASCAR has pushed back on electronic fuel injection....

Some Dirt SLM's in the States are now fooling around with GM's 525 crate motor originally designed for fuel injection - but stuck a good ol carb on top instead. (See April or May issue of CT Rayburn Chassis with GM 525 Crate)

Of all the classes concerning 'tech' mini-stock by far, is the most challenging, especially Computers, Fuel Injector ECM's and pumps, the list is almost endless. And lets be fair to the guys who are tech officials. How in the hell do you plan on getting tech guys ramped up with every manufacturer out there and know what's stock and what's not. And as newer cars are allowed, the problem is only going to get worse.

There are so many ways to 'by-pass' a dummy looking computer, let alone hiding one. And you want the tech shed to have 200 binders of schematics, PN#'s, pin-outs maps... might as well have a dyno too. OBDI / II - sheeya that's the answer. And the tech guy is gonna see all the fancy numbers go by the screen and not have a clue at what he's looking at. Even with standardized OBD requirements in the U.S. and Canada, all that does is allow the interface to standardized. For just a small taste of the challenges tech would face, see this article on OBD - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On-board_diagnostics

OBD will tell you if the engine is within its emission standards at idle and cruise RPM (usually under 3,500 RPM) - assuming you have the specs of every make you want to test, you may able to tell if the car is running rich or lean, but it won't tell you if the timing has been advanced or retarded, nor will it tell you if the engine is running a custom grind camshaft, factory sized valves...

One possible solution is to introduce a new piece of equipment - like a MSD ignition box with a rev limiter in it. MSD makes  a variety of boxes for various import and domestic cars. The problem is, will it cover every make of mini-stock currently run. A quick website product check, suggests the answer is no. But perhaps there are other makes out there that could be compatible - like F.A.S.T., etc..

Rather than have a master specialist's from 8 different manufacturers (VW, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM, Chrysler, Acura) every event and all their nice shiny factory tools worth thousands, the easiest way is also the one with the biggest racer complaint - add lead after every feature winner...

yep, just keep adding led, if you dont like it then move up a class, and you can win all you want with no led, 7 in a row for donaldson.  its that or the old claim rule, and nobody like that one either lol.

I like the claim rule - providing : "you must run the claimed component" the next race or be disqualified from the next event.

That rarely works because there's simply too many different makes in the mini-stock class. Works great with claimed carbs in LLM / LM or possibly Thunder / SS. Same with engines.

What I like about what Mark Dilley did was pull Donaldson's motor, buy his own Crate Motor, have Donaldson stick it in his car - and sure enough, won anyway. I've not heard or read a single thing about Donaldson ever since.... all the whiners went home with their mouths shut after that.

Donaldson's Thunder is setup. Period. That team has it figured out by working hard trying everything, keeping notes and not stopping. I don't know anything about the mini "Donaldson" but I bet its the same work ethic.....

But back to the mini's.... I honestly don't know if there is a good way to solve the challenges of that class. There's simply too many different motor combinations and computers, let alone transmissions and other components. Limiting Caster / Camber perhaps, but I think that could lead to unsafe conditions on the track. I know some tracks have tried that route, which in my opinion really isn't the way to equalize the field.

Why do you guys get so worried about COMPUTERS... Let's have a moritorium on COMPUTERS... Run a 8600 RPM computer if you want... BOOOM!
The first thing that has to go at Sunset is 15" tires... because the serious treads happen in 15" or higher. 14" tires are generally not performance tires. Limit the tires to 200 treadwear. Hence the A048... which says the same as Hoosier DOT race tire``not for street use: for racing only`...

Back the cement truck up to the 240`s like the Neon DOHC is getting. Then we`ll see who comes out on top.

Ben, your cars have gotten very stale. Just the way it is bro. You guys had the moment in the sun. Figure out a new deal.

How did a Barrie Speedway Thread become about Sunset Four Bangers BTW huh

That car you work on needs about 500 lbs of cement too. I know what your deal is. Figure it out or one night I`ll put up $200 cash money.
