Well I too am of the belief that passing should be done under green flag conditions, and especially at criticial times in races. I remember about a year and a half ago when we had this discussion about the restart format, and I suggested that a mixture of both might be the way to go in the 35 lap features. What I suggested at that time was for the first 20 laps giving the driver the pick a lane option, but then for the final 15 laps just going to the standard 1-2-3 double up format or just doubling up according to positioning. When they first brought the pick a lane format into play I wasnt within earshot of the tower and had no idea the race was going to be run that way. I remember thinking to myself " Wow that was some cooky kind of race"!!! Now the format did grow on me that 1st season and I did enjoy watching the drivers stratigize on the track by watching what cars chose the outside lane and whether a certain driver would elect to follow that car based on that. I think by the end what created the problem was that drivers who had no business trying to advance position in this manner were now trying it and it created nothin but gridlock and havoc at the front of our fields and many wrecks were caused because of it. So I think that the days of the pick a lane format at Barrie have went the way of the do do bird and I'm quite ok with that myself. The 1-2-3 at Barrie seems to take away from the racing at times, as the top 3 cars tend to break away from the pack and run away on their own and seldom is there a meaningful pass for the lead. Jongen was able to pull off that dynamite pass on the outside in that last race of the year though, but instances like that are few and far between at the tight Barrie confines. Ideally under this new double feature format I think doubling up is the way to go for both features, as it should breed some exciting races and battles without all the scoring issues that might be involved with the pick a lane format.
;D hey blkflagagain still waiting with baited breath for your 4cyl rundown there buddy :-*
