Dusty were good friends and all and I respect your opinion but THE STOMPER aint ever stole no checkered in his life save for the Witty one this year at AC and that was misfortune more than stealing!!! Stay Tuned!!! Jim Payetta has spent 500 bucks this season on trampoline like crash mats for my backflip off the BSW tower!!! WINK WINK!!!LOL
Dave,
I have always enjoyed your commentary on the BSW web site. You are a true and loyal BSW fan. But sometimes I don't think the people in the tower (including the Flagstand) are watching the same race that I am....LOL
Brad came to me and asked our group to give it a chance when he introduced the concept. We were quite vocal with our dislike for the whole idea.
Now don't get me wrong, The Stomper wasn't the only one that stole  the main, taking advantage of this pick your position on restart rule. I watched an 8Th place car move up the outside to outside pole, and win over faster cars. A little bump and run and a large rear view mirror helped. By mid season, I knew that I didn't like the rule. I talked to Brad again. He told me that all would change for the next season. Thank God it did.
I have always thought that Stock car racing meant that you passed under green flag conditions, and you held your postion under cautions. Now, I may be wrong here. Maybe its me that has missed something.
Brad Moran is a great guy and was one of the best promoter I've ever raced under. No one is perfect. JMO...... And besides, being perfect is not as easy as I make it look...LOL
Good luck with your Carl Edwards off the Tower. Please let me know when this will happen, as I'd just love to see a Reporter crash.....LMAO
I thorolouly enjoyed the pick a lane concept, the driver with the guts and biggest balls to try the outside line earned every spot. I seen so many guys try the outside line and get freight trained back to 10th.I really dont agree with you about walters stealing anything as each and every driver all had the same opportunity to pick the same line. I think that comment was totally anti walters on your part.
I've missed this discussion but have to chip in with a couple of comments and for the record I haven't talked to Keith for over a week now.
1. How is passing cars under a caution situation "earning" a position? It is a gimmick that doesn't belong in stock car racing. To me it is almost like rolling the dice on every caution.
I'd much prefer to see a brave guy make all those outside passes under green. How can you compare getting a free pass to go by a line of cars and getting rewarded the same way for holding off one of them on the restart compared to the guy that did it all under green?
If you want to make it more exciting for the fans then go to the double-up restart, i.e. no more 1-2-3 in single file. That at least keeps things a little more consistent with the race order prior to the caution. I'm not that much in favour of it but it is a growing trend and I think it is much better than the gimmicky "jump-up" rule.
If you want to make racing into a wrestle-tainment kind of show then bring on the Bangers and let's be done with it.
2. It seems pretty clear to me that adding weight is an easier thing to do than removing it to keep things more fair for the older cars and you get the exact same result from a competition standpoint. The way they've implemented this now is more beneficial to the few lightweight cars out there now. That doesn't seem fair to me.
You can call me biased because my brother has a built engine but he also has run the crate quite successfully so if you do think I'm just biased explain how is 2900-3000 is more fair than 3000-3100?
What other tracks are doing shouldn't really be a factor because visitors can add weight if they show up and our travellers can implement the weight as removable if they can get their cars down to 2900.
3. I suggested the double features way back in the early fall and I still stand by it. I wanted to get rid of the boring and predictable double heats too and think a second feature would be more entertaining for the fans.
I don't like the idea of starting by points although it certainly would be helpful for the guy that gets into first as he would be up front for many features and likely in victory lane lots too.
I would prefer it somehow be based on the night's performance. I agree fast car up can be less interesting for the fans.
Maybe you do 1st heat and 2nd heat using percentages (to the rear) and line up the first feature with the 1st heat qualifiers up front in the and then the 2nd heat qualifiers after that. The immediate problem with that is that the non-qualifiers from the 2nd heat cars would be buried in the field. You could invert the starting line-up for the second feature.
The points/purse should be the same for both as well.
