My question is why did Tom Walters come to Barrie Speedway in the first place? He was running at Sunset wasn't he?
That Tooner is an excellent Question, Because allot of people have posted comments on various threads saying that Tom will only race where he can win; Oh wait a minute though, In 2004 (the first year Tom ran at Barrie full time,) I seem to remember that he was not winning very much at all, Infact he had a very poor season, and he stayed at Barrie. Oh well, that puts an end to that argument eh? Allot of people said then, that he was just too old and was loosing his edge; But wait, That could not have been the case because he has gone on to win four separate titles in two years since! But I hear you all say, this year he is just not himself, and the competition is too much for him. Funny, because he has won more features this year at various tracks, than any of the top drivers at Barrie Speedway! Please excuse my tongue in cheek attitude here, but it just makes me laugh when people post that kind of unresearched stuff about Tom.
If the rumor is true that the speedway has been sold, we at Sunset wishes them all the best and maybe we might see the rivalry of Sunset/Barrie racing and working together. Good Luck !!
People who dislike Walters will never say anthing good about him, love him or hate him in the last 30 years no single driver has won more championships (24) or more invitationals (100 +),real racers understand how much effort and dedication it takes to win just one championship this guy is the winningest short track stock car driver of our era and l admire him for that and all of the exciting moments especially in the Alstar and many invitationals he has given me.
I have to agree with Silverstone on this topic . Tom has won more races at other tracks than other top runners in LLM this year . We all have our favourite drivers but as the website states please don't disrespect ours . You don't see me making comments about guys who have wrecked him intentionally . Barrie is also a track with very close runners in all divisions . But nobody can afford the costly repair bill in large wrecks . Tom's first years at Barrie ,he maintained a steady 6th place in points . You have to give credit that worked hard with his team to make it to a championship finish . His loyal fans I have had the pleasure of making friends with , will not turn their backs on him when he is not on a winning streak . We enjoy him and his style of driving . This is not a post to be bad mouthing him , so please don't and if you do I hope moderators will ban you from being rude . Did Tom run in the Allstar series? If he did I don't think car wrecks are much of an issue. That series was a bash fest out of the ones I have seen.
