not sure yet...its only july.....what team are you involved with?
Well Pinecrest, I happen to know Dr. Sizzle too and where you in New Smyrna when he bought all all of Jr. Hanley's cars (3), way back in 1980 for $90,000.00 american? I was 15 years old than and it was my first Florida experience and it is still a track record of the fastest Daytona 500 in history with "Buddy Baker" winning, and Richie Evans dominated the modifieds. I too have knowledge of the past like when Don Beiderman won not 1, but both the races in 1978 @ Cayuga in the Maple Leaf 250 driving his Nova, and lapping Hanley in the second race. I also have a video and probably the only one of it's kind with Hanley and Beiderman shaking hands in Cayuga after a race in 1993. The good old days, man I miss them!
Yes I was around for all of that except Beiderman and Hanley shaking hands. Hold on to that video that thing is priceless. 😉
Just a short correction to an earlier post: Biederman won the Maple Leaf 250 (he swept both twin 125 lap features) at Cayuga in 1977 (not '78) driving the Blue Nova. He had several big wins that season including the Oxford 250 with the Nova. I also remember him winning 11 or 12 features in a row at Sunset before he was suspended, perhaps others recall the situation there.
Your right, it was 1977 and he made a living racing back than, from what I recall he would by a Mergyl (Spelling) engine from Oshawa for about $1500.00 and his payout for the Oxford win was $5000.00 American. He made more than 3 times his engine cost in 1 race way back than! In todays perspective you would have to win approximately $18,000 on a regular feature night since the crate cost around 6 or 7 thousand???. By the way Shorttrackfan, back in the good old days I was walking through the pits at Cayuga when they got rained out in 1979 or 80, and stumbled across a pit board that was left behind by Mark Martin. It was stored away in my fathers garage for more than 20 years, but I lost it when his garage burnt down. That sucked but I was thrilled when I first found it!
A crate engine for Sunset or Barrie can be bought for $ 3200 bucks not 7000
