Auto Clearing Motor Speedway
Results for Tuesday, July 16, 2013

It was a perfect Tuesday night in Saskatoon.  The temperature was nice
and warm, the sun was shining, there was enough breeze to keep the
mosquitoes away and there was a large crowd on hand at Auto Clearing
Motor Speedway to watch some of the best racing we’ve had this year.
Several thousand fans were glued to their seats for the Budget Street
Stocks running the Wes Skakun Memorial, the WSSL Super Late Models
running the Bryce Mann Memorial and the SKL Trailer Pro Truck turned 100
laps in the Astro Towing 100.

Craig Katelnikoff got things off to a quick start as he timed in
quickest at 16.463 seconds, earning the pole position with the #44 Ridge
Riders Roofing Monte Carlo in the Wes Skakun Memorial.  He would
relinquish that pole position though to a dice roll, as the dice came up
with an inversion of nine, handing pole to the #42 Rainbow International
Restoration Chevy Malibu of Nicole Sheetka.

Over in the WSSL Auto Parts Super Late Model Division it was youth
versus experience as 16 year old Denver Foran out of Edmonton timed in
fastest at 14.314 seconds.  Veteran Saskatoon driver Trent Seidel was
second, coming in at 14.714 seconds.  16 year old Cameron Hayley was
third at 14.822 seconds.

For the super late models, a fan cut a deck of cards, coming up with and
inversion of four, putting Saskatoon’s Trevor Hannay in the envious pole
position for the Bryce Mann Memorial.

Ken Ross ran the fastest lap with the #67 Grace Byer Remax Realty
Silverado at 16.301 seconds, giving him the pole position that he would
lose to a hand full of coins.  19 trucks, 19 coins.  They came up 11
heads and eight tails, so the front 11 were inverted, putting Ross
inside the sixth row and Mike Schroeder on pole.  Further back, Shantel
Firth was moved up to 12th and Ben Pogoda was relegated to the back of
the field.

The Budget Street Stock Division kicked of the night of racing with an
exciting 15 lap heat race.  Brent Dupuis moved the #66 Wrench Fitness
Angry Firebird from his 10th place start to the front for the first win
of the night.  Brad Wrennick was second in the #88 Access 2000 Elevator
& Lift
Cutlass.  Guy Derdall was third in the #14 Camaro.

In the WSSL Auto Parts Super Late Model Heat A race, it was a battle of
thje 16 year old Alberta heavy-weights.  Denver Foran hung on for first
in the #00 MMD Mineral Sizing (Canada) Inc. Dodge, inching out the #24
of Cameron Hayley by .019 seconds.

The WSSL Auto Parts Super Late Model heat B was just as tight, with Jim
Gaunt getting the #55 Sky Financial Impala SS to the line .103 seconds
ahead of Glen Hertzke in the #14 SPI Security Impala.

Heat A of the SKL Pro Trucks kept the battle lines tight as well, as
Neil Schneider’s Burco Electrical Contractors Tundra finished his 15
laps .11 seconds ahead of Ken Ross.
In Heat B, Aaron Deagnon took the win away from Bill Zubrecki, taking
the #12 Great Canadian Oil Change Dodge Ram first across the line.

In the Wes Skakun Memorial, Mike Schroeder jumped into the lead in lap
one, and it was 15 laps before anyone would challenge.  Finally Brad
Wrennick got around him and led for four laps, before Schroeder jumped
back out in front.  Schroeder would take his car around in front for the
next 30 laps to win the Budget Car and Truck Rental street stock Wes
Skakum memorial with the #34 AJ’s Auto Wrecking Camaro.  Brad Wrennick
was second in the #88 Access 2000 Elevator & Lift Cutlass.  Darryl Potts
was third in the #36 Judo Saskatchewan Mustang.

The Bryce Mann Memorial in the WSSL Auto Parts Super Late Model division
was one of those races truly reserved for TV, where you didn’t know the
winner until the checker flag flew.

Cameron Haley, coming from the outside pole position jumped out to an
early lead with Denver Foran right behind him and everyone thought the
race was over.  A caution in lap 21 brought the cars back together.  On
the restart, Foran jumped into the lead and Hayley started to fade back.

By lap 25, the #55 of Jim Gaunt had worked his way around Hayley and was
now claiming second.    Another caution in lap 33 didn’t settle anything
and coming out it was Foran, Gaunt, Hayley and Seidel sitting one, two,
three, four.

Seidel got a good jump on the green flag and pulled in ahead of Hayley,
setting his sights on the second place car of Gaunt.  Seidel would get
around Gaunt on lap 37, now with only Foran between him and the
checkered flag.

That’s the way it would play out for the next half dozen laps, when
Hayley started to get some steam again and got around Gaunt in lap 41.

The order held like that through lap 68, when caution once again bunched
the cars up.  Gaunt would get away on Hayley on the restart and Seidel
made the jump on Foran.  Seidel and Foran came together heading into
corner three.  Seidel made it through but Foran spun, hitting a bit of
the grass and curb.  Gaunt went around Foran.  Hayley hit the brakes
hard, but there was no stopping as his left front brake rotor exploded.
He went hard into Foran, taking both cars out of the race.

Following that cleanup, it left Seidel and Gaunt coming around for the
green flag.  Fans had noticed during earlier cautions that Seidel’s car
was backfiring when not being pushed.  This caution was no different.

Seidel took the inside, Gaunt the outside.  The green flag flew as they
came out of corner four.  Seidel powered out and dropped to the inside,
letting Gaunt and the rest of the field pull away with only six laps
remaining.

Crossman showed he wasn’t finished, but couldn’t make it to the front.
The Bryce Mann Memorial ended with Jim Gaunt picking up the checkered
with the #55 Sky Financial Impala SS.  Howard Crossman picked up second
place in the #56 Cindy Moleski Impala and Jason Gervais was third in his
brand new ride, the #88 Commercial Sandblasting Ford Fusion.

The WSSL Super Late Models had set the bar pretty high with the SKL
Trailer pro trucks coming out on the track for the Astro Towing 100.
The trucks certainly did not disappoint.

Schroeder led the race front to back, but the battles going on behind
him were unbelievable.  Whether it was Neil Schneider and Ken Ross or
Aaron Anderson and Ben Pogoda, there was constantly a battle for
position on the track.

At the end of the 100 laps, it was Schroeder in first with the #34 AJ’s
Wrecking Silverado in first, with Aaron Anderson .346 seconds behind him
in the #19 Saskatoon Battery Direct Tundra.  Neil Schneider was third in
the #93 Burco Electrical Contractors Tundra.

Racing continues tonight at the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway with the
NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Bayer Crop Science Velocity Prairie Thunder
250.  21 cars have been practicing through the day, ready for the green
flag at 7:30.  Come down early as the gates are open with lots of things
to keep you busy until the racing action starts.
