In all reality, neither Barrie or Sunset is big enough to handle all the drivers who would take advantage of Saturday and Sunday racing.  Personally, I would have loved to run at least one of the Sundays we've been rained out, but as for a last minute cancellation and changing to Sunday - it costs me a lot of gas money - my drive is 1-1/2 hours each way to get to sunset (no question about passion or dedication here).  A month without racing is too much, we should have waited it out on Saturday.  Lets hope we get racing in this weekend!

If we go by history over the last ten years l do not think more than 15 drivers from Sunset have ever shown up for an invitational at Barrie most are scared of the bullring, plus the Barrie drivers are more likely to show up at Sunset for an invitational but l can never remember more than 20 at one time.  so it is not cut and dry  that the place will be swamped, most racers only feel comfortable at their own track.

Barrie tried to run on Sunday in the bad years and it failed miserably, you can get the cars but the crowd is another story.

Sunset should do something totally different race tracks have been doing the same old same old for 40 years and nothing has really got much better, they should end the points system as we know it and every Sunday it should be an invitational for the classes they already have, no touring series either, possibly the top 3 in every division at the end of the season get something but it would be all about racing and if you want to take a weekend off for family reasons etc who cares there are no points. I am sure once its established they would start getting lots of visiting racers.

I agree.  Points racing is killing the sport at a local level.  When deciding the track champion, why don't they borrow something from other sports.  Either a winner take all race, winner is the track champ (like the superbowl), or a 3 night shootout where points are calculated.  That way we can have more invitationals at more tracks attracting more cars.      That is the way that the sport is going to grow.  That combined with the different rules issue, and things would be incredible!

I don't mean to be rude, but are you a driver??? No one in their right mind wants the season to come down to one race. Top 6 guys get involved in something, I make it through and I'm the track champion?? LOL Next...

The idea that not having points will make for better racing becaue we can all do invitationals, makes no sence. There are X number of cars out there. So say Barrie has an invitational. Everyone goes there, then its X-X = 0 for all other tracks. All you would be doing it creating a traveling series (if everyone went to the inviational) leaving the other tracks with nothing. Even if that didn't happen you would be cutting into their car counts... Weekly points means that you do everything in your power to make it out every week, which supports your track and keeps the car counts up.

I've been fishing for the past few days, was a good time. If points didn't matter, I wouldn't have come back to run tomorrow, wasn't the money LOL

Also in regards to Sunday races. The idea was proposed at Mosport and shot down. Brian said that they tried that before and the fans did not come out. When told Barrie was doing that, he said he knew, and they would find out for themselves. So, I'll have to go with the promoter with more years experince. Nice idea, we all want to race, but you won't get the fans 🙁

Peterborough last week ran Sunday. With Osscar and even Walters making the trip (because it was Sunday) from what I've heard they did not get a strong croud.

To those who were not around in the mid 70s, Barrie and Sunset did run together, Barrie ran Saturday night and Sunset ran Wednesday nights. The competition was great and the cars were plentiful.  The fans travelled back and forth to watch their favourite drivers.  I know as I worked at Sunset from 1970, till 2006. Wes Good did a great job when he had the track.  But the only thing that is happening now is he dose not like someone who did it as they knew something did not add up right about the tires.  I personally feel that those people should not be banned.  The old saying , "YOUR LIES WILL SOMEDAY BE PROVEN" . People do not like having someone catch them in their lies.
