What is the purpose of tire shaving and what does this accomplish??? Is it legal at all tracks???

Really wondering here. I have heard of tire shaving in off-road, dirt track racing and tractor pulls but not so much in oval pavement stockcars.

ernie tire shaving is done on treaded tire for a number of reasons,,. one to get exact stagger 2- built in camber on the tire 3- some say it make the tire last longer. it is legal at most tracks out west.

I thought stagger and camber in a tire was what is was and it is up to the team to determine what tires go where? Shaving was something I thought was discouraged as one of those cost limiting deals but I guess tracks deal with that with their tire rules by limiting numbers purchased???
