I've been invited to have my Superbird pace some laps at the track on Sat Aug 10th (weather permitting). My Superbird used to be the Pace Car back in 1971 and 1972 at this track, so it will be back pacing laps 42 years later.
I've confirmed with the track that other winged cars are welcome and since it is fan appreciation night- all of us can bring our cars onto the track. The fans can come down onto the track to look at the race cars plus the winged cars.
The front gates open at 5PM and we are to park in the parking lot right near the ticket booth.
We will be staying at the Holiday Inn and Conference Centre in Barrie http://www.hibarrie.ca/barrie-hotels/

Hopefully some of the wing car owners can join me at the track.

Some photos of the car posted here    http://www.canadianracingonline.com/smf/index.php?topic=18189.0

SEveral errors in the last section regarding general information on Superbirds. (eg only ~ 1950 were produced)

It would appear that the Examiner reporter got their stats from the Wikipedia entry on the Superbird. Pretty well everything mentioned in the last segment of the newspaper article appears in the Wiki entry.  ::)

Can not wait to see the oldie again.  Last time I saw it was when it was a pace car.    Ralph Vokey and I are about the only ones left that were working at the track for the SHAKELL family that is still around.  Be nice to see Ralph back again too.  Maybe his son David might join the night of racing.

Please make sure you talk to me at the track. I do need some help with the car's history. I know there was a large decal on the hood of the car in 1971 , but I dont have a photo so I can get it duplicated. I'm hoping someone has has an old photo.
Do you recall Larry Foubert's Dodge spinning out and smashing in the front of the Superbird in 1972?
