well this hole thing is a joke a bunch of guys sittin around on there computer running there mouths with out knowing facts and yetti69 your the worst if you have an issue dont be a cryin little girl on the internet and go say something to the speedway or the driver him self
Well mshbks191, everyone is entitled to an opinion, just as you are. you can go ahead and call it what you want, point is it sucked. all i ever heard from promoters was put crates in all the cars, field will be fairly even and we will have great racing. when and if a show like that goes on again it will just make fans and drivers want to stay away. hope you will enjoy 10 cars and half empty stands when you go to watch, because eventually that is what will happen.
Goodness gracious, I have never read so much nonsense about the one subject ever.
A driver who has had a record of winning spanning decades, has a good night and with the exception of a few sensible souls whose voices have been lost in the wilderness, conspiracy theories abound.
An illegal motor, latest and greatest Chassis, Bump Stops, Traction Control (Traction Control? Seriously?) I would be interested to know how that works on a welded differential etc etc. About the only thing that hasn’t been suggested is that aliens are using a magnetic force field to pull car 47 along and keep it from hitting the wall.
Reality check required.
In 1967 The Holman Moody team won the Daytona 500.
In 1969 the Brawner Hawk team won the Indianapolis 500 and that season’s Championship.
In 1976 the Lotus Formula1 team lapped the field including 2nd (1 better then Walters did last Wed) at the Mount Fuji circuit in Japan and in 1977 they won the F1 World Championship.
In 1995 the Courage Competition teams Porsche finished 1st in Class and 2nd overall in the Le Mans 24 hour race.
Did all these teams cheat with their engines? Did they have the latest chassis? Did they use some form of illegal traction control (versus the legal one everyone has available namely the throttle)?
I really can’t say since I don’t know but it does seem highly unlikely that every team cheated..
Well you may ask then what has any of this got to do with car 47, what is the common denominator?
For the ardent Motorsport fan the answer is simple, superior driving skills produce superior results. All these teams separated by decades in time won at the aforementioned events because they all had the legendary Mario Andretti driving for them.
The undeniable fact is that every era and every level of Motorsport (as all other sports, indeed as all fields of endeavor do) produces stand out individuals of exceptional skill, who normally make the rest seem inadequate and on a good day make the opposition look right down sick.
People like the ones included in the following non exhaustive list.
Emerson Fittipaldi:
2 F1 World Championships and 1 Indy Car Championship driving for 3 different teams.
Juan Manuel Fangio:
4 F1 World Championships in 6 years driving for 4 different teams.
Mike Hailwood;
9 Grand Prix bike World Championships (5 for Honda, 4 for MV Augusta)
Michael Schumacker;
7 F1 World Championships, (2 for Benneton, 5 for Ferrari).
Valentino Rossi;
9 Grand prix Bike World championships (2 for Aprilia, 3 for Honda and 4 for Yamaha) and these figures are subject to change since he is still racing and is now riding for Ducati
Keep in mind that all of these drivers/riders did not compete in their own cars/bikes, they were hired to drive team cars/bikes, they had no say in what was or was not done to the engine or the Chassis/Frame. And I for one find it hard to believe that all of those teams conspired to cheat in order to make a particular driver/rider look good.
It seems way more probable that the drivers were annoyingly good and won no matter the machine they were given to race.
We have already heard from a contributor that Walters has driven other people’s cars in practice and he was faster then the owners (and no one has disputed that so far), does that not give anyone a hint? To hop into an unfamiliar car and drive it faster then its normal driver doesn’t tell anyone that he is by far the superior driver?
Now! How many Championships has Walters won at Sunset? 28?
Does that not make him a stand out driver at Sunset Speedway level?
Am I comparing Walters to Schumacker or Andretti? Hell no!
In fact I would be the first to bet that if Andretti even now at the ripe old age of 72 was driving one of the lapped cars last Wed, Walters probably wouldn’t have won and we wouldn’t be having this discussion but Andretti wasn’t driving last Wed was he.
As for parity? Dear Lord give me strength.
That is tantamount to having a chain with a weak link and instead of getting rid of the weak link or strengthening it, we should weaken the rest of the links so the weak link won’t feel inadequate.
There are lots of under 12 Hockey games people can go and watch for nothing but only friends and relatives go to these games, while thousands pay good money to go and watch the Maple Leafs and their games are televised so tens of thousands more can watch them.
Can anyone guess why? I'll hazard a suggestion, because everyone always wants to watch players of the highest caliber.
As a fan and spectator I follow Motorsport to see excellent driving, I go to be impressed by the mastery that good drivers exercise over their machinery and their opponents and if people were truthful they would admit that they wouldn’t go to watch a race, a game, or any type of competition where the skilful and rightful winners have been handicapped to lose.
yup alot of nonsense..lol...
walters gets "waxed" most regular nites someone says..
but specials he dominates everyone but one car...
and car doesnt get inspected till following weekend...
i would be pissed if i raced in that special...
Topper your argument doesn't hold water. No doubt Tom is a great shoe but if he is that far superior to the rest of the mere mortals, why doesn't he win every race he enters. And if you, and many others who feel the race was great, think nothing has to be done to fix LM racing in Ontario, think again. You'll never convince me that that car, and the LLM in that race, weren't allowed too many rule breaks, as they were at the Sizzler. That is one of my arguments.
