Question about 4-funs

Ok, the 4-funs are no longer at Sunset, but what confuses me, is why there is not a peep from 4-fun drivers.

Few months back when the rules were changed for the sake of common sence and safety to include a roll cage, folks were ready to burn Wes at the stake over it.

Now when the whole division is killed, and many cars won't be competitive in mini, not a word is said.

My point here is not to start a riot, but to reflect back. If these drivers are willing to acept that their division is no more, why such anger over relatively small changes before?

Ross, there's probably not a lot of comments being said as they're just fed up all-together and are working on new plans. They were fighting to keep the division and now with it all gone, what is there to fight for? They knew from day 1 it was something that'd be coming as Wes was making the changes - even though they were good changes. JMO but that's what I think it all comes down to.

I will probally regret responding to one of your posts Ross but here goes .

First Sunsets 4Fun class was the largest Saturday night short track class in Canada with over 40 cars some nights . Everyone is always talking about how to get new people into the sport well this class was doing it better then just about any class i have ever seen .

Wes took over the track after the first week of racing and it was apparent from the start to most that he did not like the class by comments he made and actions he took . Wes did pretty much everything he could to kill the class from cutting the 4Fun's to 1 heat and a feature that was run either before anyone got there or after everyone had gone home most nights . Then there was the idiotic idea to run the cars backwards prior to the decree that all cars had 1 week to build a full cage and install a fuel cell and race seat ,even though the majority of Mini Stocks were not running fuel cells . After all this the class was reduced from over 40 cars to about 10 since most quit and some went to Pete where the class ran with out incident just like it did at Capital Speedway and Oshweken every week .

Your statement of "many cars won't be competitive in mini" is a huge understatement as 98% of the 4Fun cars will never be competitive in mini stock and are up for sale . The vast majority of drivers from this class have just plain quit racing and others have decided to go race else where . Out of the over 40 drivers in the 4Fun class i would doubt you will see any more then a handful return to Sunset in 09 .

All and all the whole thing was handled horribly and left a bad taste in many peoples mouth . Why you don't see people going off about it on here is that even the the most optimistic of the 4 Fun drivers saw this coming by the end of the season , many saw the end was imminent in July .

Basically they were complaining "then" because they had to make changes to their cars or not run the rest of the season.
Like if the latemodels were told, change to steel bodies next week or you cant run the rest of the year.
I didnt blame them for being upset then. But i could see the tracks point about safety.
But they have no reason too complain now...they knew it was going to happen.
If you have one and want to sell it before next season post it here on CRO classified and on a dirt track site because Ohsweken still runs them and I can see that class growing, now called "bombers" for the 2009 season.
Tracks drop divisions or add divisions every year now. It would be nice if they would just say the class and rules are set till year whatever with no changes.

Beleive it or not I agree with you 100%. Which was why I was sad to see it go without a fight. As you know there are not a lot of places to run 4-funs left and Peterborough is a long haul. I'm worried we are not going to see those 40 guys back anywhere...

All the best for whatever you guys from that class decided to do.
