yes that is an awesome rule!!! put a claim rule on tires!!! i think this is what Peterborough does! but it may be taken advantage of too! people will always be wanting the tires from the feature winner. but oh well if you paid next to nothing for them it wouldn't matter! i get mine used but they look brand new when i get them at $20 each! I even seen some 14" Faulkens where I get my tires.
Someone figures out that a certain tire works and now a claim rule, just wake up and buy the same tires as that guy if its working that well for them. Just ban tires all together and run on rims.
Sunset said no Faulkens at the drivers meeting. When season started there was some cars with brand new Faulkens all around and others with new tires in stock. It was decided that you could run your Faulkens for 5 weeks but only on the left hand side. I didn't have them, or use them but while talking to tech as he came around to announce this new newer rule we were facing the front of my car. My interpretation of the rule was that the left hand side, facing the front, would be the passenger side. He just laughed, threw his hands in the air and walked away...lol.
So far from what I see the front runners are having success with the Fusions and Yokohama H4's.
I wonder what brand of snow tire we can run on October 14th? ;D ;D
I guess we will see what happens at the drivers meeting, I think the tech officials and drivers have been enlightened a great deal this year on what is available that the track considers "legal". Maybe it will come down to a no less than a UTOG of 400 (dunno wtf UTOG stands for Joe but it looks cool...do trojans get the same rating? ::) Trying to regulate the rules in that class with multiple makes etc. is a full time job as it is it would be nice to at least wrap up the tire options for next year.
Slammer snow tires maybe the hot set up for the October 14th race but those that chose to put fresh tires on for that race will have a big advantage if it is cold because as the temperature goes down softer and fresher tires have a bigger advantage . UTOG or as it is correctly written UTQG stands for Uniform Tire Quality Grade and is the measure of how much temperature a tire can take , how fast a tire wears and how much traction it gives, the lower the rating the better for racing .To put it in perspective a dirt sprint car tire would have a UTQG of around 15 or 20 and a dump truck tire would be around 950. When it comes to Trojans i like about a 800 UTQG especially if i have been drinking.
as harder treaded tires work themselves in and cut properly, they become pretty soft too!
