Toronto Star Story on Steve Arpin

I admit I've never heard of the guy, but it sounds like he may be NASCAR's next Great Canadian Hope.

Not a southern Ontario guy, so he hasn't gotten a lot of mainstream press. Arpin is a first rate dirt modified racer. He also used to be a top notch snowmobile racer. I saw him win the Bonnechere Cup in 2001. I think this year in ARCA was only his second season on pavement. He showed well against drivers and teams with a lot more money. I hope he gets a break but sponsorship money is hard to come by in this economy and getting money from Canadian firms is especially tough.

You are correct.  His USAC races were in a Carl Edwards-owned car, by the way.

Steve turned some heads in stock car land in 2007 by winning the points title for the Florida Speedweeks points title in the UMP Modified division...Lots of NASCAR types can be found at Volusia Speedway during February, and some of them even get out on the track, so they noticed when Steve was up front every night for two weeks.

Steve went on to win 18 UMP/IMCA/USMTS/WISSOTA Modified features in '07 and got some good press out of that as well...Carl Edwards and Clint Bowyer are both products of those dirt Modified divisions.

My nephew might know about him as he raced snowmobiles a while back.

Arpin is the real deal . If the cards fall his way he will end up with a  good Cup ride .
