I must say, I think the race was not what I had hoped. Pick a Dance Partner. It was like watching Dancing with the stars.
I think Facebook got a work out today, as I wasn't the only one having a hard time staying awake. Dosed of a couple of time but seemed to only miss a few laps.
I don't even know how many cars that were not involved in a wreck today.
But the end was the best I have seen Trevor Bayne winning the Daytona 500 in his first attempt.
Sort of fitting for the 10 anniversary of losing Dale Sr. You can say what you want about Jeff Gordon but that was a class act to come over and congratulate Bayne, as Dale Sr did when Gordon won his first one.
Can't wait to see some racing next week and no pick a partner.
it was different....what more do u want at the end tho?
Yeah I dunno, the two-car draft thing is kinda goofy, but it definitely brings more of the team-mate aspect into the race. Even moreso than before.
I WILL say that I actually enjoyed it more than USUAL plate racing, which I despise. At least got to see 200+ mph and engines running at 9000 rpm the way they should. It held my interest more than previous plate racing has.
And yeah, the finish was amazing, not just because it's the first time since '76 for the Wood Bros. or that it was a rookie winning... But the way he won shows that it wasn't just a lucky fluke like a Derrik Cope all over again--he stayed high with Labonte until the very end, then noticed the two cars coming up the inside... Waited until JUST the right moment to drop down to hang Labonte out to dry, AND block Edwards without wrecking him. Very, very mature moves.
Listening to track pass on Dale juniors channel (among others) it was really cool, Juniors spotter was spotting for both stewart and Junior...then junior started spotting from the seat in the front car.....thheeeeen Letarte and grubb where on stewarts channel talking pit strategy!! CRAZY!! That is a whole new aspect to the race.
Trevor Bayne may have singled handily saved Nascars bacon of the same guys winning all the time. He is the new "Ritchie Cunningham" of Nascar , hopefully the millions of dollars in winnings and endorsements carry him a long way in his career, and give the wood brothers a kick to run full time again
In a nut shell Awesome!!!
Actually Cope was fast in the 1990 Daytona 500, Earhardt was by far the class on the feild that day, But Cope was easily 2nd best. Cope also won a race at Dover again the same year.
And, when Cope won it, he did need 3 quarters of the feild wrecked out to do it. Not taking anything away from Trevor, but when Clint Bowyer, Ryan Newman, and Regan Smith get all wreckd among others, makes you wonder what might have happened and who might have actually won.
Daytona 500s in the last 5 or 6 years CANT go without green white checkers, they never finnish without piles of twisted metal in the last 25 laps......back in the day they had a little more class.
