NASCAR Fines Denny Hamlin For Comments Made Following Race At Phoenix International Raceway
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 7, 2013) – NASCAR has fined driver Denny Hamlin $25,000 for comments he made following the March 3 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.
NASCAR determined that Hamlin violated Section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) of the 2013 NASCAR Rule Book.
NASCAR issued the following statement regarding the penalty:
“Following the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event last Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway, Denny Hamlin made some disparaging remarks about the on-track racing that had taken place that afternoon. While NASCAR gives its competitors ample leeway in voicing their opinions when it comes to a wide range of aspects about the sport, the sanctioning body will not tolerate publicly made comments by its drivers that denigrate the racing product.”

So, am I getting this right? Drivers are allowed to voice their opinion as long as it doesn't differ from NASCARs' opinion? ???
Yes that about somes it up. I listened to what he said and don't see what got NASCAR all upset. NASCAR seems to want a bunch of Robots driving the cars. If thats the case get 43 remote control cars racing on the track.
Denny has said he will not pay the fine and if they want to suspend him then so be it. I say good for him although that is not likely considering all the money and people that depend on him for a living but still this is just BS. NASCAR seems to be a tad sensitive lately. Maybe all the drivers should parrot the same line when asked a question like this. Something like
Q: How was the racing out there today and how did the new car perform?
A: It was the best racing evah. I can't fathom how it could be any better. This Gen 6 car is the best race vehicle to be developed since the invention of the chariot.
Thinking about it NASCAR should fine itself for violating Section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) of the 2013 NASCAR Rule Book.
>:(
Lol.
Well, NASCAR always seems to find a way to leave me shaking my head. At least they're consistent in that regard.
