Question of the Night: Is Steve LeTarte the right crew chief for Jeff Gordon? Throw your thoughts my way, my thoughts at noon EST

Plus, keep watch on Friday for my weekly feature spotter article. This week's article will feature another spotter from the Roush-Fenway stable. If you missed last week, it was Lorin Ranier, spotter for David Ragan, so that'll narrow the field for you.

I think he needs another crew chief. I think he will have one soon. I hear Ray might be available even though you heard from him say that he doesn't want to be a crew chief anymore but he goes on to say he will help the 24 team anyway he can.

I don't buy that for one second.

I don't think Letarte makes the moves or changes to put Gordon in the place to get the wins, 2nd or 3rd places maybe. Remember when Gordon could have a car that was junk many years ago with Ray as the chief and they made changes after changes and your would see Jeff in victory lane. You just don't see that anymore. Ray and Gordon were like Jimmy and Chad are now.

Gordon has just started to get his mojo back. I think for the last couple years with a new wife and then a child he wasn't all there for racing. This year he seems to have some fire back. Too soon to break them up IMO.

Interesting that you bring Ray into the equasion of discussion and him going to be Gordon's crew chief. For starters, he still needs to work himself out of the deal with George Gilette.
Also quote from Ray: "I could not do the job that Steve Letarte is doing. Jeff Gordon is not an easy guy to put a car under.

And you bring up that Jimmie/Chad are like Jeff/Ray - well, Chad did work under Ray so he took some pointers well.

That's a good point as I have seen more fire in the way he's acted and ran this year. Also, add in the fact that he was having back problems the last couple of years and finally got them figured out with help from A.J.'s wife Lynne, whose a chiropractor(sP)
