BLACKBURN WINS KING FREIGHT LINES 50 THRILLER, ROGERS THREEPEATS IN TCM BANDOLERO BLAST

(Geary, NB – September 4th, 2018) – As the adage goes, “it ain’t over ‘til it’s over.”

Nathan Blackburn (Timberlea, NS) can attest to that as he led a half lap en route to his first Maritime League of Legends Tour win of his young career. Blackburn won the King Freight Lines 50 INEX National Qualifier on Saturday evening at Speedway 660, becoming the fourth different winner and first Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookie of the Year contender to win an overall feature in 2018.

Craig MacDonald (Waverley, NS) was well on his way to a fifth Tour win of 2018 at a venue he wanted to win at more than any other on the schedule. MacDonald had a trailing arm bracket break with just two laps remaining in the event, sending the No. 98 car into the Turn Three beach and out of the event.

While MacDonald and his fans were heartbroken and deflated after the parts failure, in turn, it set up one of the wildest finishes in Maritime League of Legends Tour history.

Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) ran strong all night and kept MacDonald on his toes over the waning laps. When MacDonald broke, it appeared that Cormier would race his way to his first Maritime League of Legends Tour victory. Cormier would lead the final restart to green with Blackburn to his outside and Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS) to his back bumper. They raced hard into the first two corners, with Rogers able to get to the inside and pass Cormier coming to the white flag. Rogers would slip up the track in the second corner on the last lap enough for Blackburn to position his car to the inside of the No. 12. The two raced side by side through the final corners with Blackburn edging Rogers by a half car length for the win.

“This is unbelievable,” said an excited Blackburn in victory lane. “Sam and I raced clean and I came out with my first win. We couldn’t have done this without the opportunity from Bryan Naugle, his team and our sponsors.”

Rogers and Cormier completed the all Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookie podium at Speedway 660 in the King Freight Lines 50. Point leader Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) finished fourth and expanded his point lead with one race to go in the Series. Austin MacDonald (Pictou, NS) came home fifth in the 14-car field.

Austin MacDonald and Craig MacDonald drove to victory lane in heat race action for the Maritime League of Legends Tour.

KING FREIGHT LINES 50

FEATURE RESULTS

® - Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookie

1st - #44 Nathan Blackburn ®
2nd - #12 Sam Rogers ®
3rd - #68 Michael Cormier ®
4th - #53 Shelby Baker
5th - #27 Austin MacDonald ®
6th - #33 Gary Dunning
7th - #75 Emily Meehan
8th - #7 Jeff Cruickshank
9th - #31 Will Farrell
10th - #98 Craig MacDonald
11th - #48 Waylon Farrell
12th - #38 Darren Sherwood
13th - #78 Koven Lewis ®
DNS - #13 Wyatt McCulloch

Sam Rogers swept Bandolero competition on the weekend to win his third consecutive Tim’s Corner Motorsports Bandolero Blast. Rogers won the 20-lap INEX National Qualifier on Saturday from behind after the car shut off on the pace lap and failed to fire. Once the field took the green, Rogers was a half lap behind the field but was able to catch up and pass Owen Mahar (Hubley, NS) for the lead prior to a caution with three laps to go in the race.

Rogers, after winning his heat race on Sunday, started scratch on the six car field and wasted little time getting to the front to sweep the action on the weekend. Mahar was second again on Sunday while Dylan Dowe (Bedford, NS) was third. Chase MacKay (Bear Cove, NS) was strong in his first appearance to Speedway 660, finishing a close fourth on both races while Nyk Pothier (Halifax, NS) and Ayden Christensen (Windsor Junction, NS) rounded out the field.

The Maritime League of Legends will close their 2018 season with the Atlantic Fleet Completion Centre 50 at Scotia Speedworld on Saturday, September 15th.

For complete information on the Maritime League of Legends Tour, please visit MaritimeLegends.ca.

About King Freight Lines:
In 1975 President, Mr. Roland (Rollie) MacDonald formed MacDonald's Excavating as primarily an excavating company. Messer, of Harvey, New Brunswick, took the lead for the final time on Lap 234 from Steve Halpin (Saint John, NB) and led a total of 17 laps en route to his first 250-victory in just his sophomore Pro Stock season.

Halpin finished second with Lonnie Sommerville (Barnesville, NB) crossing the line in third place. Craig Slaunwhite (Terence Bay, NS) and Kevin Moore (Fredericton, NB) completed the top five.

The race had many twists and turns over the 250-laps, making the race one of the most memorable in the 18 year history of the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250. A number of top drivers were eliminated on Lap 72 when the leaders crashed coming to green. Johnny Clark (Hallowell, ME), Dylan Gosbee (Cornwall, PE), Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton, NB) and Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) were among the drivers that had their hopes dashed of winning the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 on Lap 72. Cassius Clark (Farmington, ME) had his bid end for a fourth 250 win after an altercation with just under 100-laps to go.

Messer led the field to green after winning his heat race to qualify for the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250, joining Gosbee, Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB) and Greg Fahey (St. Stephen, NB) as heat race winners. Kevin Bailey (Minto, NB) edged Brandon Skidmore (Springhill, NS) and “Mr. Excitement” Doug Matchett (Miramichi, NB) in the Atlantic Modified Tour feature presented by Keswick Kitchens. Rob Poirier (Irishtown, NB) raced to the win in the 35-lap Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters feature ahead of Brody Levesque (Fredericton, NB) and Malcolm Suley (Clarendon, NB).

All results are unofficial pending post race technical inspection.
East Coast Mini Stock Tour Opens Cap on September with Pub’s Drive Thru Bottle Exchange 50

(Dartmouth, NS – August 30th, 2018) – The MJS and Prime Lift East Coast Mini Stock Tour races their way to Speedway 660 this weekend for Round Six of the 2018 season. The Pub’s Drive Thru Bottle Exchange 50 for the MJS and Prime Lift East Coast Mini Stock Tour on Saturday, September 1st is a part of SpeedWeekend 2018 at the Geary oval. Racing begins on Saturday evening at 6pm.

The MJS and Prime Lift East Coast Mini Stock Tour comes off a StickerFool.com 50 which not only saw a fifth different winner in as many races this year but also a first time winner. Cody Byrne (Orwell Cove, PE) and the LDR Racing crew was emotional at Petty International Raceway as they celebrated their maiden voyage to victory lane on the MJS and Prime Lift East Coast Mini Stock Tour. Byrne had to hold off a hard charging Chris Hatcher (Beaver Bank, NS), Andrew Warren (White’s Lake, NS) and Tim Webster (Beaver Bank, NS) for the win, making the win even more satisfying.

Looking forward, those four drivers via their top four finishes at Petty International Raceway have qualified for the United Rentals Dash for Cash finale. The top finishing driver amongst the four in the Pub’s Drive Thru Bottle Exchange 50 at Speedway 660 will receive a $100 cash bonus. Hatcher, driving the No. 31 Multi-Tech Automotive Civic for Matthew Warren, won the United Rentals Dash for Cash bonus at Petty International Raceway in the StickerFool.com 50 while Jesse Deveau (Greenwood, NS) took the inaugural bonus home at the Bruce Honda Showdown on the Shore at Lake Doucette Motor Speedway.

Hatcher will return to the seat of the No. 31 car this weekend and will have a ten point lead in the standings over Andrew Warren and a 15-point advantage over 2017 Tour champion Webster. Dave Matthews (Kennetcook, NS) has slid to 28 points behind the leaders in fourth while Darren Flemming (Belnan, NS) continues to hold down fifth with Byrne closing in with a move to sixth in the standings following his victory.

With five different winners this season in as many races (Matthew Warren, Andrew Warren, Matthews, Webster, Byrne), the drivers within the Pub’s Drive Thru Bottle Exchange 50 will either be looking to be the one to extend the streak or, in the case of the previous winners, will look to become the first two-time winner on the season. Flemming came within two laps of winning this event one year ago before Matthews slipped by with a thrilling outside pass that had fans on the edge of their seats coming to the white flag. Deveau, who won the TJ Greenlawn Dirt Clash in 2017 and finished on the podium at the Bruce Honda Showdown on the Shore, is looking for their first Tour win this year and could steal the SpeedWeekend show if the cards fall his way.

It is a home track of sorts for Neil Miousse (Kentville, NS). Miousse raced in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters division at Speedway 660 before relocating to the Annapolis Valley. Miousse, driving for Bob Landry, will enter Saturday’s Pubs Drive Thru Bottle Exchange 50 as not only a favorite to extend the winner’s list but as a “hometown favorite” of sorts amongst those in the stands and in the pits.

Chris Garnett (Havelock, NB) is the only New Brunswick based car on the pre-entry list for Saturday. Garnett rebounded from a motor issue at Riverside during the Passione Flooring and Interiors 50 to find speed in his car enough to take the Giles Auto World Pole Challenge at Petty International Raceway. While he did not get the finish indicative of his speed throughout practice and qualifying, he will look to roll the momentum he is building to Speedway 660 for the Pub’s Drive Thru Bottle Exchange 50.

“The Ironman” Drew MacEachern (Dartmouth, NS) and Taylor McLean (New Glasgow, NS) have both shown speed in recent rounds but have aspirations of cracking the podium in one of the final two races of the MJS and Prime Lift East Coast Mini Stock Tour season. Jerome Tracey (Port Hawksbury, NS) will make the long haul from Cape Breton with hopes of giving the younger generation on the Tour a run as a part of New Brunswick’s biggest motorsports event of the season.

Drivers will be racing for numerous contingency awards during the Pub’s Drive Thru Bottle Exchange 50. These awards include the United Rentals Dash for Cash, Giles Auto World Pole Challenge, the EIT Race Radios Hard Charger Award and the Rock Auto/Team 29 Hard Luck Award.

Fans that cannot make it to Speedway 660 on Saturday evening can watch every lap live from the track online through Pit Row TV. The premium video broadcast will feature multiple camera angles of the action, live scoring, replays and a feed from the track’s public address system. Fans can tune in to all the racing action this weekend at PitRow.tv.

It is a full card of racing to kick off SpeedWeekend 2018 on Saturday evening. In addition to the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 150, action will include the Tim's Corner Motorsports Bandolero Blast INEX National Qualifier, the MJS and Prime Lift East Coast Mini Stock Tour Pub's Drive Thru Bottle Exchange 50 and the Maritime League of Legends King Freight Line 50 INEX National Qualifier. Post time is 6pm on Saturday.

The McLaughlin Roof Trusses Pro Stock 250 will anchor Sunday’s racing as a part of SpeedWeekend 2018 and will have support on Sunday afternoon from the Atlantic Modified Tour, DMR Auto Street Stocks, Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters and Tim’s Corner Motorsports Bandolero Blast finale. Qualifying on Sunday in all divisions begins at 2pm with Opening Ceremonies for the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 slated for 6:30pm on Sunday evening.

The annual SpeedWeekend 2018 corn boil, bonfire and pre-race concert kicks off festivities in the infield of Speedway 660 on Friday, August 31st. DJ Dale Case will be spinning tunes in between sets by The Walking Contradictions. Admission to the event is FREE and will run from 7pm to 12am on Friday.

Fans are reminded that SpeedWeekend 2018 tickets and campsites are now available. Post time for Sunday’s show, including McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 Pro Stock qualifying, is 2pm. The McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 itself is scheduled for a 7pm start.

The DMR Auto Street Stocks and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters have consistently put on some of the best racing all season long in the Geary woods. Both of their championship point battles came down to the final laps of the final features on Night of Champions. While season long championships bring the prestige of beating the best over a summer of racing, hoisting the winning trophy on SpeedWeekend brings a thrill like no other regardless of division.

In both the DMR Auto Street Stock and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter divisions, the champion and feature win leader are two different drivers. While Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen, NB) took home two feature wins and the championship, runner up Justin Cole (Harvey, NB) won a whopping five features in 11 starts in 2018. Roger Slocum (Chipman, NB) drove to two feature victories in 2018 while fan favorite Riley Goodwin (McAdam, NB) also put a feature win in his back pocket this Summer. When it came to the Ricky Bobby 100 presented by DMR Auto, it was two-time Street Stock track champion Luc McLaughlin (Geary, NB) driving to victory.

Bryan Suttie (Keswick, NB) was the champion in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters division in 2018 with one feature win, the first of his career, coming early in the season. Brody Levesque (Fredericton, NB) had Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane on speed dial with five visits to victory lane in his four cylinder car. Scott “Bat Hubby” Kennie (Fredericton, NB) flew to three feature victories in his sophomore season. Malcolm Suley (Clarendon, NB) is the most recent winner in the division wile BJ Gillespie (Nackawic, NB) scored an emotional victory mid-way through the 2018 season.

With winning on the mind of every driver on SpeedWeekend, the traffic on the track heading towards Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane will be congested. With this being the final weekend of racing at Speedway 660 for the 2018 season, expect the action to be ramped up from all divisions this weekend.

The Atlantic Modified Tour will also race on Sunday afternoon as a part of SpeedWeekend. This is their second visit to the Geary woods in 2018. Joe Hoyt (Waasis, NB) won the first stop to Speedway 660 for the Modifieds in 2018 while Yves McCray took the most recent round on the Series last weekend at Petty International Raceway. Hoyt leads the championship standings over the No. 91 Stafford Racing team heading into the month of September.

Saturday’s racing will open at 6pm with the Tim’s Corner Motorsports (TCM) Bandolero Blast. The first leg of the TCM Bandolero Blast on the weekend will consist of a 20-lap feature event with qualifying based off final practice and an invert drawn at the driver’s meeting. Saturday’s race will serve as an INEX National Qualifier. INEX members accumulate points at INEX sanctioned feature events throughout the season. A Bandolero driver’s best nineteen finishes plus their best qualifier counts towards their International Point standing.

The TCM Bandolero Blast will conclude on Sunday with heat racing and a 25-lap feature. The driver who accumulates the best average finish over the two days of racing will receive the overall event trophy crafted by Phil-Ko Plastics and Glass and Finish Line Vinyl Design.

Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS) enters as a two-time and the defending TCM Bandolero Blast champion. Rogers will look to do something no driver have done before in the history of the event and become a three-time Bandolero Blast champion on SpeedWeekend. Chipman, New Brunswick’s Cole Boudreau is the only other repeat winner of the event, winning it back in 2011 and 2012.

A number of the region’s top up and coming talents are expected to compete for SpeedWeekend victories. Among those that have expressed interest include Owen Mahar (Hubley, NS), Nyk Pothier (Halifax, NS), Ayden Christensen (Fall River, NS), Chase MacKay (Bear Cove, NS), Kelsea Lewis (Salisbury, NB), Evan Lane (Salisbury, NB), Scotia Speedworld Outlaw point leader Colton and brother Dawson Noble (Upper Nine Mile River, NS), 2017 Scotia Speedworld Beginner Bandit champion Brooke and brother Dylan Dowe (Bedford, NS), Matthew and Jordan Rushton (Dartmouth, NS). Needless to say, the quest for Rogers to make event history will be difficult with the potential entries on the weekend.

Saturday’s racing action will also include two touring series in town to contest racing in their penultimate rounds of 2018. The MJS and Prime Lift East Coast Mini Stock Tour will race in the Pub’s Drive Thru Bottle Exchange 50 with the Maritime League of Legends Tour contesting a 50-lap INEX National Qualifier presented by King Freight Lines.

Both Series enter SpeedWeekend with tight point battles. Chris Hatcher (Beaver Bank, NS; driving for Matthew Warren) leading Andrew Warren (White’s Lake, NS) and Tim Webster (Beaver Bank, NS) by 10 and 15 points, respectively, in the MJS and Prime Lift East Coast Mini Stock Tour. Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) holds on to a five point lead over Emily Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS) with an INEX National Qualifier hanging in the balance on Saturday evening.

You can check out a full preview of both touring series on their respective websites, EastCoastMiniStockTour.com and MaritimeLegends.ca.
LATE MODEL LIMELIGHT; PRO STOCK AND SPORTSMAN TO HEADLINE SPEEDWEEKEND 2018

(GEARY, NB – August 29th, 2018) – One of the biggest motorsports events in Atlantic Canada is finally here. SpeedWeekend 2018 at Speedway 660 will bring thousands to Geary, New Brunswick for two days of thrilling short track racing in seven different divisions. The weekend begins on Friday, August 31st at 7pm with the annual SpeedWeekend infield corn boil, bonfire and concert from The Walking Contradictions. Saturday, September 1st kicks off the racing action headlined by the $7,500 to win Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 150 and continues Sunday, September 2nd with the 18th Annual McLaughlin Roof Trusses Pro Stock 250. Post time for Saturday’s racing action is 6pm with Sunday’s qualifying kicking into high gear at 2pm.

A full field of Pro Stock/Super Late Model competitors will compete for their share of over $75,000 in the 18th Annual McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250. The field is diverse, featuring a healthy mix of Speedway 660 RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock regulars, a number of Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour drivers and a number of Southern invaders all looking for the big trophy and payday on Sunday evening.

Cassius Clark (Farmington, ME) leads a list of 27 drivers pre-registered for the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250. Clark is the defending champion and looks to become the first four time winner of the event with another checkered flag on Sunday evening. Johnny Clark (Hallowell, ME) and Lonnie Sommerville (Barnesville, NB) each have two McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 titles and will look to tie the mark of three wins in the race set by “C$” in 2017. Craig Slaunwhite (Terence Bay, NS), Kirk Thibeau (Presque Isle, ME) and Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) have each won the race once in their career and are pre-entered to run for the 2018 crown on Sunday.

John Flemming (Halifax, NS) will look to become the first driver to complete the Maritime Triple Crown. Flemming, a five time Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour champion, has wins in the Toromont Cat 250 at Scotia Speedworld and the IWK 250 at Riverside Speedway but is missing the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 from his accomplished racing resume. No driver in the history of the three events has won each event and Flemming will look to change that on Sunday.

Speedway 660 has produced some great up and coming talents that are sure to contend for the victory on Sunday evening. Ryan Messer (Harvey, NB) led the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 to green last year and finished in a tie for the 2018 track championship, losing out to O’Blenis on a tiebreaker. Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton, NB) dug deep in the late laps last year to podium in the big dance last September. The pair of Bandolero graduates will look to join an exclusive club of McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 champions after 250-laps on Sunday.

Former Speedway 660 track champions including Greg Fahey (St. Stephen, NB), Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB), Matt Harris (Fredericton Junction, NB) and Chris Duncan (Hampton, NB) are looking to add their name to the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 hardware to go alongside their track championships. The 2017 Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman champion John Rankin (St. Martin’s, NB) is expected to do double duty this weekend and hopes to come out of Labour Day weekend with two big trophies.

Steve Halpin (Saint John, NB) is the most recent Pro Stock winner at the track, taking home the win during Night of Champions last Saturday. Halpin, a part-time driver on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour, will join the likes of Dylan Gosbee (Cornwall, PE), Nicholas Naugle (Dartmouth, NS) and Chris Hughes (Brackley Beach, PE) in search of their first win in the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 on Sunday.

Five drivers will look to make their first start in the Labour Day Weekend classic. Cal Hatfield (Saint John, NB), Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB), Austin Teras (Gray, ME), Andrew Rodgers (Smithtown, NB) and George Jamieson (Fredericton, NB) each have several major accomplishments on their resumes but have yet to make a start in the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250.

The talent pool for the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 also includes the likes of Devin Snell (Saint John, NB), Shawn Warren (Waasis, NB), Robert Tomlinson (Arthurette, NB) and Ian Rasmussen (New Denmark, NB). The roster for the event is deep in talent and the quality of drivers and teams in the field is sure to provide a thrilling 250-lap feature on Sunday evening.

The McLaughlin Roof Trusses Pro Stock 250 will have support on Sunday afternoon from the Atlantic Modified Tour, DMR Auto Street Stocks, Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters and Tim’s Corner Motorsports Bandolero Blast finale. Martin has slapped $7,500 down for the winner of the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 150 on Saturday night. The winner’s purse makes it the richest of its kind at Speedway 660.

The story locally in the Late Model Sportsman division has been the battle back and forth between two Lonnie Sommerville Racing cars in Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) and Curtis Collins (Saint John, NB). Greenlaw was able to edge out Collins for his first Late Model track championship and will look for his second straight extended distance victory after winning the Firecracker 150 in August.

Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) enters as the winningest driver in the division in 2018 with four feature victories on the year. Not to be outdone, her younger sister Courtney has a pair of feature wins of her own. The fan favorites will need to be on their game to beat the “big money chasers” on Saturday night at their home track.

Jacob Logan (Harvey, NB) is a former Atlantic Champion but is still searching for that first major extended distance Sportsman victory at Speedway 660. Hudson Weston and Clark Moore have both showed vast improvements this season and the youngsters will be on many radars on Saturday. Ryan Raynes and 2018 Rookie of the Year Destiny Enkel are also looking to ride the youth movement wave into victory lane on Saturday evening.

While the youth movement has been the story in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division in recent years, Richard Atkinson (Geary, NB), Rob Raynes (Saint John, NB) and Jamieson continue to rack up top finishes as veterans of the Late Model Sportsman class.

Brady Creamer (Miramichi, NB) was the winner of the Martin’s Home Heating 125 earlier in 2018 and will look to translate success in that race into a $7,500 payday on Saturday night. Creamer, the point leader at Petty International Raceway in their A.E. McKay Builders Sportsman division and Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake, NS), the point leader in the Affordable Fuels Sportsman division at Scotia Speedworld, will both look for their first Sportsman SpeedWeekend victory on Saturday. Laurie Cormier (Riverview, NB) always brings a bullet to Speedway 660 and will be one to keep eyes on during 150-laps on Saturday. Matt Maillet (Burton, NB) and Kyle Campbell (Salisbury, NB) are sure to be in the hunt for the top prize on Saturday night while Fred Schofield (Windsor, NS) will look to make the haul from Nova Scotia pay off this SpeedWeekend.

Colby Smith (Cape Sable Island, NS) and Dave O’Blenis are sure to have targets on their backs as former SpeedWeekend winners. O’Blenis is the most recent SpeedWeekend Sportsman winner, taking $5,000 out of the track one year ago on this weekend. Smith is a former champion at Scotia Speedworld and Riverside International Speedway and will look to add a $7,500 cheque to his shop wall after Saturday evening. O’Blenis, John Rankin and Devin Snell are all registered to compete in both Late Model events this weekend.

Registrations are still rolling in for both the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 and Martin’s Home Heating 150. Any further updates on entry lists for these two races can be found at Speedway660.com.

The annual SpeedWeekend 2018 corn boil, bonfire and pre-race concert kicks off festivities in the infield of Speedway 660 on Friday, August 31st. Brothers Waylon and Will Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL) are heading to the Geary woods looking to nail down their first Series win in 2018. Rogers is a two-time and the defending champion of the event but will have to fend off the likes of brothers Josh and Nathan Langille (Coldbrook, NS), brothers Colton and Dawson Noble (Upper Nine Mile River, NS), Owen Mahar (Hubley, NS), Nyk Pothier (Halifax, NS), Ayden Christensen (Fall River, NS), Chase MacKay (Bear Cove, NS), Kelsea Lewis (Salisbury, NB), Evan Lane (Salisbury, NB), Brooke and Dylan Dowe (Bedford, NS), Matthew and Jordan Rushton (Dartmouth, NS) and more if he wants to win a third straight.

The Saturday evening feature for the TCM Bandolero Blast will serve as an INEX National Qualifier with Sunday’s feature crowning an overall event champion.
SPEEDWAY 660 TITLES WON ON WILD NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS

(Geary, NB – August 27th, 2018) – Four track champions were crowned on Saturday night at Speedway 660 as a part of the Night of Champions and Fan Appreciation Night festivities. While some became more of a nail biter than others, every driver laid it out on the line for a shot at calling themselves a champion in Speedway 660’s 25th Anniversary Season.

Steve Halpin (Saint John) used the 50-lap RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock feature as a tune up for the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 as he drove to victory lane on Saturday evening. Halpin raced to his first feature win of 2018 over Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton) and Greg Fahey (St. Stephen), who entered the evening with an outside shot at winning the championship. Tucker and Halpin took home qualifying heat race victories.

Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) entered the evening with a one point advantage on Ryan Messer (Harvey). Between the heat and the feature, Messer was able to gain that one point, leaving the championship in the top class in a tie. The tiebreaker went to feature wins. O’Blenis, with three regular point paying wins (plus the Best of the Best 100 in late July), won the tiebreaker over Messer with his two feature victories.

For O’Blenis, it is his sixth RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division title.

Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) scratched the second pre-season goal off his list on Saturday by winning the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman championship. After finishing second to John Rankin (St. Martin’s) in the closest of finishes one season ago, Greenlaw was able to hold off Curtis Collins (Saint John) in the feature to clinch the championship in 2018.

Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) raced to her fourth feature victory of the season on Night of Champions while Greenlaw and Collins placed second and third, respectively, in the championship deciding feature. Rob Raynes (Saint John) and Collins won heat races.

Collins gained two points on Greenlaw in the heat race but Greenlaw was able to negate that advantage with their feature finishes bringing the final gap in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman championship to six points. Destiny Enkel, “the Port City Princess,” raced her way to the Rookie of the Year Award in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division.

One of the most intriguing championship battles all season at Speedway 660 went to Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen). Hyslop finished second in the final DMR Auto Street Stock feature of the year and won his heat race to take home the prestigious division championship. Justin Cole (Harvey) did what he had to do to win the title, but his feature win on Night of Champions would still leave him short of winning the season long war. For Cole, the feature win was his fifth on the year.

Joining Cole and Hyslop on the podium on Night of Champions was Bill Storey, who won his qualifying heat race earlier in the evening. Riley Goodwin (McAdam) crossed the line second during the 30-lap feature but failed post race technical inspection.

Kyle MacKinnon (Lincoln) was able to edge out the “Battle of the Kyles” in the DMR Auto Street Stock division to win the Rookie of the Year Award over Kyle Boudreau.

Bryan Suttie’s Night of Champions did not start out the way he wanted but it ended with a Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters track championship. Suttie, who saw his night end early in the feature, was in a three way battle for the championship with Scott “Bat Hubby” Kennie (Fredericton) and Brody Levesque (Fredericton). Kennie would originally cross the line first in the feature event with Levesque fourth, but both would fail post race technical inspection. The technical infractions would eliminate both Kennie and Levesque from not only the race but from the championship.

Malcolm Suley (Clarendon) brought home the official feature victory on Night of Champions in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters division. The 2018 Rookie of the Year Randy Titus (French Lake) would score his best career finish with a second place run while BJ Gillespie (Nackawic) closed the point season with a podium finish.

Suley and Brendan Hall (Fredericton) would be credited with heat race victories in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter division.

The 2018 track Champions and Rookie of the Year Award winners will officially receive their hardware at the annual Awards Banquet. The Awards Banquet takes place in January in Fredericton with an exact date to be announced following the racing season.

The focus now shifts to SpeedWeekend 2018 from August 31st to September 2nd. A pre-event corn boil, bonfire and Walking Contradictions concert will take place on Friday, August 31st. Saturday, September 1st will see the $7,500-to-win Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 125 with support action from the Maritime League of Legends Tour, MJS and Prime Lift East Coast Mini Stock Tour and Tim’s Corner Motorsports Bandolero Blast. Sunday, September 2nd will see the 18th Annual McLaughlin Roof Trusses Pro Stock 250, the Atlantic Modified Tour, DMR Auto Street Stocks and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters in action.
SPEEDWAY 660 FIRST TO CROWN TRACK CHAMPIONS SATURDAY NIGHT

(GEARY, NB – August 21st, 2018) – Speedway 660 will be the first to award season long track championships in Atlantic Canada on Saturday with the Night of Champions. The point racing finale will feature action in all four of Speedway 660’s house divisions, including the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman, DMR Auto Street Stock and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters. With last Saturday’s racing action washed out, the Night of Champions also doubles as Fan Appreciation Night. The action gets underway at 5:30pm with an on track autograph session followed by green flag racing at the Geary, New Brunswick oval at 6:30pm.

Heading into the final point night of 2018, not one of the four point leaders have a safe lead. In fact, the biggest point lead in any division is six points held by Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division. Greenlaw battled for the championship one year ago on the final point day with John Rankin (St. Martin’s), coming up short in the war. Greenlaw now has a six point advantage on Curtis Collins (Saint John) with only one night left in the season long tug of war.

The two have a comfortable margin on the O’Blenis sisters but should something happen to the two Lonnie Sommerville Racing based race cars, the Boundary Creek siblings could capitalize. Courtney has a two point advantage on her older sister Alexandra for third in the standings and is 22 points out of Greenlaw for the lead. While not impossible to make up, the two sisters, who have combined for five wins in eight regular point paying features, will need some help from the top two to close the gap.

Speaking of the O’Blenis clan, it is Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) who has the slimmest of margins as he looks to clinch his sixth RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock championship. O’Blenis has a single point between himself and sophomore Ryan Messer (Harvey) heading into the final heat race and feature of 2018. O’Blenis has three regular point paying feature wins plus the Best of the Best 100 in July while Messer has two feature victories on 2018. Messer has division championships in Bandolero, Sportsman and Atlantic Modifieds but is searching for his first overall championship in the top weekly class of racing in Atlantic Canada.

Like the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division, should the top two stumble in the Pro Stock feature on Saturday, there will be a host of drivers trying to pick the bones to a championship. Greg Fahey (St. Stephen) enters just 17 points back, Brent Roy (Hanwell) is 29 points behind and Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton) is 30 points behind. The trio will hope to win out on Saturday night and wait to see if the championship points fall their way after 50-laps in the feature.

The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters division is guaranteed a new champion in 2018 but who that will be hoisting the big trophy is still a mystery. Bryan Suttie (Keswick) enters the title fight with only one point between himself and Brody Levesque (Fredericton) and six points on Scott “Bat Hubby” Kennie (Fredericton). Levesque has five feature wins this season, or half of the feature events contested in 2018. Suttie has remained consistent throughout the season while Kennie has been a yo-yo, sliding between first and third in the standings all season. The trio is sure to lay it out on the line as they each race for their first track championship at Speedway 660.

The DMR Auto Sales and Services Street Stock division is a four horse race heading to the finish line of the 2018 point season. Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen) heads into Night of Champions with a two point lead after his win two weeks ago on the undercard to the Firecracker 150. Riley Goodwin (McAdam), who has led the championship chase for most of the middle portion of the Summer, is now the wolf chasing the rabbit with one race meet remaining. Justin Cole (Harvey), who has four feature wins on the year, enters seven points out of Hyslop for the championship lead. Roger Slocum (Chipman) is 16 points back from the lead trio but the former DMR Auto Street Stock titlist cannot be counted out of the fight on the final night.

While championships are on the line, every driver will want to win on Night of Champions to not only close out the point season on a high note but to take momentum into SpeedWeekend. The biggest weekend of the Speedway 660 season, SpeedWeekend is right around the corner on September 1st and 2nd and a head of steam from the regular season could propel any Speedway 660 regular to new heights on their big race on Labour Day weekend.

Returning for 2018, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660. The admission structure makes it easier for families to attend race events at the track and received positive feedback from fans when implemented mid-season in 2017.

Adult grandstand admission price for Saturday evening’s Night of Champions and Fan Appreciation Night is $14 (aged 16 and up). Pit admission is $16 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors will open at 1pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 5pm, the on track meet and greet autograph session begins at 5:30pm with racing getting underway at 6:30pm. A complete race day format will be available via Speedway660.com later in the week.

Fans are reminded that SpeedWeekend 2018 tickets and campsites are now available. An order form for both can be found on the front page of Speedway660.com or on the SpeedWeekend page on the website. Those that would like to order in person can order at the Speedway 660 office when they visit the race track this Saturday night for the races.
Salute To You! Fan Appreciation Night Honors Speedway 660 Fans on Saturday Evening

(GEARY, NB – August 16th, 2018) – The Speedway 660 25th Anniversary Season continues on Saturday, August 18th with Fan Appreciation Night. Not only will all four Speedway 660 house divisions put on a show as they fight for valuable championship points with two point races remaining, fans will have the chance to meet their favorite drivers, see the cars up close and win a number of door prizes throughout the evening. Fans will be able to meet their favorite drivers with an on track autograph session beginning at 5:30pm with racing beginning at 6:30pm.

After a two week break, the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division will resume their tight championship battle. Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek), the five time Pro Stock division champion, has a one point lead over sophomore driver Ryan Messer (Harvey). Messer has championships in every stock car discipline he has raced leading to his Pro Stock debut last year. Should they stumble, Greg Fahey (St Stephen) and Brent Roy (Hanwell) sit only 17 and 29 points behind the championship battle with just two point races remaining. Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton), 30 points out of O’Blenis, completes the top five in the standings. All five at the top of the championship chase have won at least one feature event this season and will make for an excellent showcase to the finish of the season.

With two races to go in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division, Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) and Curtis Collins (Saint John) are hoping to settle this championship battle amongst themselves. Greenlaw was in the same place last year and he battled back and forth with John Rankin (St. Martin’s), only to be edged out by Rankin on the final race day of the year. The 2018 Firecracker 150 winner has a six point edge on the sophomore Collins heading into Fan Appreciation Night. The O’Blenis sisters, Courtney and Alexandra, are 22 and 24 points back and will need to make tracks in the final two races if they want to crack into the champagne on Night of Champions. Jacob Logan (Harvey) sits fifth in the standings, 39 points off the leader Greenlaw.

It remains a four horse race in the DMR Auto Sales Street Stock division but there is a new leader of the pack. With help from a feature win last Saturday, Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen) vaulted his way to the top spot in the championship hunt. His lead is two points, or the difference in one feature race position, over last week’s leader Riley Goodwin (McAdam). Only seven points back is feature win leader in the class Justin Cole (Harvey) and falling back to 16 points off the mark is Roger Slocum (Chipman). The 30-lap feature and 10-lap qualifiers will be key on Saturday night to set the stage for Night of Champions on August 25th.

Bryan Suttie (Keswick) leads the three way tug of war for the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters championship with just two races to go. Brody Levesque (Fredericton) took home another feature win last Saturday and pulled himself to within one point of Suttie for the championship lead. Scott “Bat Hubby” Kennie (Fredericton) finds himself just six points away from what would be his first championship. The class sees the most intriguing racing on a Saturday night at Speedway 660 and with some of the highest car counts of any class in Geary, the chances for this championship battle to turn unpredictable are high over the final two weeks.

Returning for 2018, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660.
Two Dozen Entries Filed for McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250

Five former race champions on early registration list

(Geary, NB – August 15th, 2018) – One week after registration opened for the 18th Annual McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250, the entry list sits at 24 for the $15,000-to-win Pro Stock event at Geary, New Brunswick’s Speedway 660. Entries have been filed from all three Maritime Provinces and the State of Maine for the Sunday, September 2nd classic.

The first to the registration window, much like the 2016 event, was the Rodgers team from Smithtown, New Brunswick. Andrew Rodgers will attempt to race his first McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 on Sunday, September 2nd. Rodgers is fresh off his first career 250-lap race after racing his No. 42 R.A. Lawrence Engineering Chevrolet in the Toromont Cat 250 at Scotia Speedworld on August 11th.

Nicholas Naugle (Dartmouth, NS), Matt Harris (Fredericton Junction, NB) and Steve Halpin (Saint John, NB) were close behind Rodgers for the top spot in the race to register for the 250.

Within minutes of each other, Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB), Johnny Clark (Hallowell, ME) and Lonnie Sommerville (Barnesville, NB) entered the race. Inaugural 250-winner Kirk Thibeau (Presque Isle, ME) has filed an entry for September 2nd and King Racing has also entered two cars, one of which is expected to include reigning champion Cassius Clark (Farmington, ME). Between the five, they own nine of the previous 17 McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 victories.

The RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division is well represented in the early registration list. Besides O’Blenis, 2018 feature winners Ryan Messer (Harvey, NB), Greg Fahey (St. Stephen, NB), Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton, NB) and Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB) have filed entries for SpeedWeekend. Roy and O’Blenis each took a Best of the Best Pro Stock 100 win earlier this season.

Five time Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour champion John Flemming (Halifax, NS) will look to complete his Maritime Triple Crown on SpeedWeekend. No driver has won all three major 250-lap races in the region. Flemming is missing the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 to go with his two IWK 250 wins and his Toromont Cat 250 to complete his crown.

Cushman Competition will return to the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 with one of Maine’s hottest young talents behind the wheel. Austin Teras (Gray, ME) made his mark on Legends racing where he raced to numerous titles including an INEX Winter Nationals and NELCAR championship. The 15-year old has made the jump to Super Late Model competition and is turning heads with every lap on track. Jay Cushman won the 2005 edition of the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 with Scott Chubbuck.

Chris Hughes (Brackley Beach, PE) will make his return to Speedway 660 on SpeedWeekend. Hughes, driving the No. 32C for Subaru of Moncton, is a former pole winner at Speedway 660 in Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour competition and is looking forward to making the haul to the Geary woods to compete in the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250.

A complete pre-registration list, by the order of registration, is included below.
