I’m really hesitant to write this because as a tech man at a race track I understand that I place myself in a position with a large target on my back. But here goes nothing.

Up until this year, I have always believed that what goes on in tech is between the tech people and the driver involved. However, I am starting to change my thinking on this issue and perhaps the best way to deal with disqualifications is to openly publish them.

A couple of years ago, a Modified was disqualified for having an illegal set of renumbered cylinder heads on their car. The obvious decision and solution was to DQ the car. Rather than owning up to the fact that they were caught fair and square, they have for the past 2 years done nothing but bad mouth the track and the officials claiming that it was our fault they had renumbered heads on the car.

Another Modified was found to have had several minor variations from the rules and was given a few warnings to make the changes so the car followed the rules. Their response to that was, “we were picking on them”. How do you deal with that Neanderthal thinking? You give the guy a break and they blame their problems on the tech people.

Another guy quit racing because we found him breaking the rules too many times and his solution was to get rid of me from tech. Another example of more Neanderthal thinking.

Over the years, I have found that some people don’t know the difference between a 2 barrel and a 4 barrel carburetor. Is this a case of someone who can’t read a rule book or were they trying to take the fun out of racing for everyone they beat that night.

I could go on with many more examples of rule infractions that I have run into over the years but I think everyone gets the picture. Perhaps it is a good idea to expose the cheaters for what they are and put them in the stands where they belong.

Another area of tech that takes the fun out of racing is a place that writes a rule book and then doesn’t follow it. If you’re not going to tech race cars, throw the  rule book in the garbage and let everyone know from the start that this division is “run what you brung” and anything goes.

well boys and girls it seems to me the theme here is to announce the DQ..... now how I am sure some will differ.... are we looking for a note on the board at sign in who was dqed and why or just dq and car #  .........  or perhaps should the track announce last weeks finish order in the grandstands say heat one for that class (that way no show next week for pouting will not be singled out as track can say all dq announced that way)  IE: first heat of 4 cyl for the night rolls on the track announcer say here come tonite first 4cyl heat last weeks race was won by #1followed by #2 and #3 with the #5 finishing in fourth because #4 had a tech infraction last week and moving up into the top 5 is #6...............you get the idea........now if there is no dq to announce from last week then it would just be a little more polish for the trophy for last weeks winner................maybee repeat offenders get talked about a little more.......................as far as a minor infraction maybee the car in the next finish position makes the call on a full dq with the car behind him handling the appeal        ......just stirrin the pot what do you think?

I think there was a couple people getting a week off or two. But that was a big joke. Some driver got a week off, other got two weeks. And some didn't even get any. The Rules needs to be Black and White. And if you are Suspend, The Car is Gone, and the driver! None of this allowing and secondary driver run the car (and collect points). And for that matter if their crews were involved they should be banned as well. At the start of the season in the rule book it should say,
what happens if you fight
First time - 2 weeks off
second time - done for the season
third time- Out for good.
I know it would be hard to cover everything that you could be kicked out for in the rule book, but cover the major one to start. This would take any accusations of favoritism out of mix.
