The Third Round presented by Oyster Bed RiteSTOP and Esso was a battle for the No. 19 car from start to finish in the 20-lap main event.

Kirk Sheasgreen (Miramichi, NB) led the opening quarter of the feature before heading off the race track because of a fluid leak. MacNeill battled with Heat and Semi winner Mark Ferguson (Saint John, NB) for the final dozen laps, racing side by side and swapping the lead a handful of times. When the checkered flag flew, it was MacNeill scoring his second win of the season. Ferguson, who won the Doc Dawson Enterprises Season Opener, was second in the Oyster Bed RiteSTOP and Esso feature with Sheasgreen rallying to third after making repairs to his car.

Randy Wilson (PEI) was the top rookie in the feature with a fourth place finish while Dave Griffin (PEI) completed the top five.

A number of drivers experienced heartbreak during the night. Jeremy Alexander (Summerside, PE) had his evening cut short due to an axle issue while leading rookie Jacob Dunlop (Hampton, PE) was swept up in a crash during the heat race and could not continue.

ROUND THREE PRESENTED BY OYSTER BED RITESTOP AND ESSO

Feature Results

1st - #19 Donnie MacNeill
2nd - #41 Mark Ferguson
3rd - #40 Kirk Sheasgreen
4th - #4 Randy Wilson ®
5th - #3 Dave Griffin
6th - #88 Logan Dawson ®
7th - #00 Jeremy Alexander
DNS - #73 Jacob Dunlop

The Eastern Super Mini Cup Series would like to thank Oyster Bed RiteSTOP and Esso for supporting the third round of the seven race 2018 schedule.
MacDonald Seals Second Consecutive Win in Island ICF 50

(Oyster Bed Bridge, PE - July 3rd 2018) - Craig MacDonald (Waverley, NS) drove to the front of the field at Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday night to win the Maritime League of Legends Tour’s Island ICF Incorporated 50. The race, which served as an INEX Asphalt Nationals Regional Qualifier, is MacDonald’s second straight win on the Series and first in a Legend car at the Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island track.

MacDonald, who won his qualifying heat race, started eighth on the field due after winning the most recent round on the Series. After battling an oil leak for most of the day, MacDonald wasted little time getting to the front. MacDonald found himself battling with most recent Oyster Bed Speedway winner Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) for the checkered flag. The two pulled away from the field and swapped the lead on restarts with MacDonald getting the upper hand to win the Island ICF Incorporated 50.

Emily Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS) fought through traffic and would pull away from the pack to finish third on the evening, her first podium run at the 1/3-mile oval. Michael Cormier (Grand Barachois, NB) would edge Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS), who was making his Maritime League of Legends Tour debut, for fourth in the Island ICF Incorporated 50. The battle, which was won by just over a tenth of a second, would also give Cormier the Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookie of the Race Award.

MacDonald and Sherwood won 10-lap qualifying heat races. Fifteen drivers entered the event with only 13 answering the call to the green flag. All drivers that started the race completed all 50-laps with no drivers finishing a lap down.

Danny Harvey (Lantz, NS) experienced engine problems during the first heat while motor issues would also sideline Cody Byrne (Orwell Cove, PE) before he was able to make his Legend car debut. The 50-lap feature took 24 minutes to complete.

Top drivers in each INEX sanctioned division included MacDonald (Semi-Pro, first overall), Baker (Pro, second overall), Rogers (Young Lion, fifth overall) and Darren Sherwood (Masters, sixth overall, Cambridge Narrows, NB). With the Island ICF Incorporated 50 being an INEX Asphalt Nationals Regional Qualifier, all four drivers will be eligible for a provisional starting spot in Asphalt Nationals. The Asphalt Nationals event for 2018 will be held on Saturday, October 27th at The Bulling at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Island ICF Incorporated 50

Results - Round Two of Ten - June 30th, 2018
® - Indicates Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookie Eligible Driver

1st - #98 Craig MacDonald
2nd - #53 Shelby Baker
3rd - #75 Emily Meehan
4th - #68 Michael Cormier ®
5th - #12 Sam Rogers ®
6th - #38 Darren Sherwood
7th - #18 Josh Langille
8th - #7 Jeff Cruickshank
9th - #33 Gary Dunning
10th - #6 Adam Meehan
11th - #28 Kyle Shipley
12th - #4 Kevin MacDonald
13th - #14 Kyle MacEachern ®
DNS - #1 Danny Harvey
DNS - #67 Cody Byrne ®

The next event for the Maritime League of Legends Tour is the 50-lap Maritime Legends Challenge at Riverside International Speedway. ICF – Insulated Concrete Forms – is basically a Styrofoam form that is filled with concrete and creates a very strong and efficient exterior wall system for houses, apartments, warehouses, etc. With the rise in energy costs, specifically home heating, this has turned out to be a good move for us especially since there are few builders on the Island using this product.
Thomson Caps Title Season with Flamboro Victory

The biggest season in the history of the Ontario Pro Challenge series was completed on Saturday, September 25 at Flamboro Speedway, and a strong field of 21 cars made the call for the finale. A total of 25 different drivers recorded points during the 2010 racing season, including a staggering nine rookies, which exemplifies the amazing growth enjoyed by the program this year. It was a cool fall evening at the 1/3-mile Hamilton area facility and with the title on the line, reigning champion Dennis Thomson once again showed why he is considered one of the best in the business as he worked his way to the front of the 25-lap main to secure the win and his seventh career OPC crown.

The field was split into three heat races to set the grid for the feature, and the opening qualifier proved to be a big one for freshman driver Dale Wilson, who came from sixth place on the grid to score his first series victory. Driving the #8 AW Millwrights Chevy Monte Carlo, the Waterloo high school student has been improving steadily throughout the year and this heat race win was well earned and is a signal that the young pilot will be a force for race wins in 2011. Fellow rookie Owen Smith bagged the second heat race, while the top six drivers in average points per night scrapped it out in the third and final feature with the emerging Dario Valente holding off the lions to steal the checker at the end of the eight-lap dash.

The 25-lap feature race took some time to get started as mechanical issues for both Jonathan Sloot and Valente kept the field under yellow, although the drivers were able to use this time to build some heat into their spec Hoosier tires on what was a chilly evening. Wilson would lead the first five laps from pole before his car’s handling began to tighten, which allowed Kyle Batty (#38 Compassion Canada Chev Monte Carlo) to take over the point for the next stint.

A handful of yellow flags throughout the race benefitted Thomson (#02 Thomson Signs Ford Mustang), as he was able to pick his way to the front steadily, eventually taking over the point from Batty. From there, the veteran controlled the evening en route to the win. Josh Nicholson (#66 Firkin Pubs Dodge Charger) finished second at Flamboro to finish up fourth in the overall points. Primary championship challenger Tim Norris was involved in an early incident that put him to the tail of the field, but he fought his way back to third in the final tally, falling short of the title by 42 points.

Ken Nicholson (#99 International Truck and Engine Chev Monte Carlo) was fourth in the order while Batty rounded out the top-five. Milton’s Scott Fletcher was sixth in the #60 Hype Energy Drink Monte Carlo, while freshman Jason Podewis (#7 Chev Monte Carlo) was the top finish rookie on the night in seventh. Tim Forbes (#04 Midhurst Roofing Ford Mustang), Patrick Freel (#77 Chev Monte Carlo) and Dale Wilson completed the top-10.

Rick Seeley (#16 Monte Carlo) and Owen Smith (#40 Ford Taurus) were 11th and 12th on the track, but it was Smith who edged his challenger in the Rookie of the Year race, winning by just seven points over Seeley. Podewis was also in the hunt, only 15 points off of Smith in the final tally. The rookies were impressive this season, gaining speed and confidence as the season progressed.

The 2010 season was truly a breakthrough year for the Ontario Pro Challenge series, thanks to the influx of new drivers into the program. These rookies have now earned their stripes and will go looking to battle with the established leaders in Thomson, Norris, Forbes and the Nicholsons (Ken and Josh). A couple of new drivers are expected to join the ranks in 2011, and the series will be looking to increase their average car count even more. This year, the high-water mark was 22 cars at Sunset in mid-July and the average field was 19. With 26 cars in the province and interest in this great series continuing to grow, the upcoming season promises to be the best yet.

‘Pro Challenge Online’ will be kicking off its post-season editorial program over the next few weeks, highlighting the drivers in the series and some of the stories that unfolded in 2010. Stay tuned for much more throughout the winter!

Race #10 – September 25, 2010
Flamboro Speedway – Millgrove, Ontario

Heat #1: Dale Wilson
Heat #2: Owen Smith
Heat #3: Dario Valente

Feature:
1.
Due to the fact that Sunset is counting the best 13 nights of racing, and the Thunder Cars only ran 13 points nights, this means that "Flyin' Frank Davey" won the Championship by a slim margin of 2 points over Herb Walters. What a battle to the finish. I think they should have a grudge match this Saturday with just the two of them on the track with a 5 lap shoot-out!!! Anyone else want to see this???
