The win was his second straight with the Series and was the fifth and final race of the season for the Series at the Prince Edward Island oval.

Dunlop took the lead from Kirk Sheasgreen (Miramichi, NB) on Lap Six of the 20-lap feature. Sheasgreen was in search of his first feature win of the year but a wheel bearing would end his night after losing the top spot to the rookie. Logan Dawson (Tyne Valley, PE) and point leader Mark Ferguson (Saint John, NB) played chase to Dunlop for most of the feature before Dawson got caught up in lapped traffic. The move allowed Ferguson to take second while Series newcomer Brodie Lewis (Charlottetown, PE) was able to sneak by to take third place in his first Mini Cup Series start.

Dawson was able to complete the race in fourth place with Eastern Super Mini Cup Series veteran Jeremy Alexander (Summerside, PE) completing the top five in the EMCO 20.

“Old Man” Donnie McNeil won the opening qualifying heat on the night but would find carburetor issues in the feature and would wind up seventh.
Eastern Super Mini Cup Series Back in Action Saturday at Oyster Bed Speedway

(MISCOUCHE, PE – August 22nd, 2018) – The Eastern Super Mini Cup Series returns to action after a month break for the EMCO 20 at Oyster Bed Speedway in Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island on Saturday, August 25th. The race is the fifth race of the seven race Series and is the final event of the season at the Island track. Racing action gets underway on Saturday at 6pm.

The last time the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series hit the track, it was rookie Jacob Dunlop (Hampton, PE) scoring his first career feature win with the Series. After coming close in the first three races of the season, Dunlop was able to pick up the Semi and the Michael Harvey Construction 20 on July 21st. Dunlop was able to close the gap in the standings and now sits just four points behind “Old Man” Donnie McNeil for second in the standings. McNeil won the second and third rounds of the season after mechanical problems hindered his progress during the Doc Dawson Enterprises 20 in May.

They all continue to chase Mark Ferguson (Saint John, NB) for the championship lead with three races to go. Ferguson, the 2016 Eastern Super Mini Cup Series champion, has a healthy and commanding 48 point lead on McNeil and the rest of the field heading into the EMCO 20 on Saturday evening. While no lead is safe, Ferguson would need to experience trouble for him to be brought back to the field over the next three rounds.

Randy Wilson has had a quiet rookie season but he finds himself well within the top five in points after four events. Wilson is 11 points out of second place in the standings and just seven points off Dunlop for top freshman honors in 2018. Behind Wilson by 17 points sits Dave Griffin.

Logan Dawson (Tyne Valley, PE), Kirk Sheasgreen (Miramichi, NB) and Jeremy Alexander (Summerside, PE) will also be in the field in search of the win in the EMCO 20. Dawson scored his first feature podium finish with the Series last month during the Michael Harvey Construction 20. Brodie Lewis (Charlottetown, PE) will be making his Series debut in the No. 12 car formerly campaigned by Mike Wood.

Fans are invited to stop by EMCO Charlottetown on Friday, August 24th for a barbeque featuring a number of the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series cars and stars. The event runs from 11am to 1pm on Friday, August 24th at EMCO, 15 Riverside Drive in Charlottetown.

This is the fifth of five races at Oyster Bed Speedway for the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series in 2018. The Eastern Super Mini Cup Series will hit the road to run races in New Brunswick at Shediac’s CENTRE For Speed on September 29th and at Speedway Miramichi on October 13th.

Adult grandstand admission price for Saturday night’s EMCO 20 is $17 (aged 16 and up), youth admission (aged eight to 15) is $5 and children under eight are admitted free of charge. Pit admission is $22 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors and grandstand gates for fans will open at 2:30pm with racing getting underway at 6pm. The event also includes racing in four Oyster Bed Speedway house divisions, MacCallum’s Waste Management Pro Stocks, Central Engine Services Street Stock, Provincial Credit Union Mini Outlaw and Chris’s Bobcat Services Four Fun.

The Eastern Super Mini Cup Series would like to thank EMCO in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island for their race day sponsorship. Hall won his qualifying heat race in front of a packed crowd at the Prince Edward Island oval and easily drove to the win in the 50-lap feature.

A number of restarts kept the INEX Pro division driver on his toes. He battled early with Adam Meehan (Rawdon, NS), point leader Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) and Cory Hall Racing teammate Craig MacDonald (Waverley, NS) but would stretch the legs of his No. 08 G&S Racing Legend on the green flag runs.

“The car was really good tonight,” said Hall of his ride that took him to the checkered flag. “This is one of my favorite tracks. It’s hard, it’s line sensitive, it can be difficult to pass and takes a lot of adapting. I love coming here and happy to come home with another win.”

At the end of the race, Hall had over a four second lead on the battle for second, which saw Baker edge MacDonald for the spot. Emily Meehan (Rawdon, NS) drove from ninth in a tough field to finish fourth while Shane Lively (Middle Sackville, NS) fought mechanical problems early in the day to finish fifth.

Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS) was the top Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookie of the Race over Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) and Nicole Richard (Belnan, NS). Rogers and his sixth place finish was one spot better than Cormier, who went into the Island Coastal Services 50 with no track time on the afternoon after the No. 68 expired a motor one lap into practice.

Hall and MacDonald won qualifying heat races on the afternoon. Sixteen cars answered the call to the green flag in the Island Coastal Services 50. Even with a bit of mist in the area around the halfway point, the drivers were able to keep heat in the track and complete the full 50-lap distance in 26 minutes.

Feature Results
Island Coastal Services 50; Saturday, August 4th:

1) #08 Cory Hall

2) #53 Shelby Baker

3) #98 Craig MacDonald

4) #75 Emily Meehan

5) #22 Shane Lively

6) #12 Sam Rogers

7) #68 Michael Cormier

8) #31 Will Farrell

9) #38 Darren Sherwood

10) #33 Gary Dunning

11) #18 Josh Langille

12) #71 Nicole Richard

13) #14 Kyle McEachern

14) #36 Devin Gallant

15) #4 Kevin MacDonald

16) #28 Adam Meehan

It is a quick turnaround for the Maritime League of Legends Tour as the Series heads to Scotia Speedworld Saturday. The Island Coastal Services 50 marks the halfway point on the Summer for the Series as Saturday’s race will be the fifth of ten on the 2018 schedule. Racing begins on Saturday, August 4th at 6pm.

Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) enters the Island Coastal Services 50 as the point leader on the Series on the strength of three podium finishes in four races. While Meehan has battled for the point title before on the Series, she is creating a season worth of career firsts. Meehan raced to her first Tour win at Petty International Raceway two weeks ago and took her first Oyster Bed Speedway podium finish a month ago in the Island ICF Incorporated 50.

Meehan, like any other driver would on the Series, credits her early season success to her team.

“We’ve changed our mindset as a team this year,” said Meehan of the prep work for the first five races of 2018. “Adam (Meehan) is putting in a lot of hard work and I’ve been trying to get him as many wins as possible. He will be filling in for Kyle Shipley this weekend, so we are looking forward to putting two cars up front and have some fun at Oyster Bed Speedway. It is a unique and challenging track and requires you to be on the wheel at all times. The fans will see a great show Saturday night!”

Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) and Josh Langille (Coldbrook, NS) find themselves fourth and fifth in the standings, respectively, with MacDonald and top Masters division driver Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport, NS) not far behind. Darren Sherwood (Cambridge Narrows, NB), who drives with backing from Charlottetown’s Red Rock Harley Davidson, Kevin MacDonald (Antigonish, NS) and Kyle Shipley (Spryfield, NS) complete the top ten in the standings. As mentioned, Adam Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS) will be filling in for Shipley in the No. 28 on Saturday.

A number of Prince Edward Island drivers are expected to compete for the Island Coastal Services 50 on Saturday, led by longtime Legends driver and Masters competitor Gary Dunning and Oyster Bed Speedway graduate Kyle MacEachern, both of Charlottetown. Cody Byrne (Orwell Cove) has a Legend car but struggled with mechanical issues during the Tour’s first Island stop in June. More Island based drivers are expected to toss their hat in the ring for Saturday’s fifth round but the full list is unavailable as of press time.

The 2017 edition of the Island Coastal Services 50 saw Shane Lively (Middle Sackville, NS) drive to his first Maritime League of Legends Tour podium.
