Corey Earl Uses Off-Season To Prepare For A Busy 2011

Picton, Ontario - Nov 11, 2010

Corey Earl Racing is deep into a post season tear-down and is already looking forward to an exciting 2011 race season. With 2010 in the books as an incredibly successful Dirt Late Model debut, Corey Earl Racing is looking at expanding their 2011 schedule to include the full ODLM tour as well as select other high-profile, high horsepower events. “After an amazing opening season in our crate late model, having a feature win, a series win and multiple top 5 finishes, we wanted to make sure we could run a full crate schedule and ODLM schedule without hurting our chances at either.” stated driver Corey Earl. “We want to make a serious run for the ODLM rookie of the year title in 2011 so we have begun to put together the resources we need to make that happen.” Starting out with the purchase of a 650 horsepower “open” motor, the team will be running a full 2 car operation in 2011. Long-time engine builder Larry was quick to prepare a former 358 DIRT Modified motor for it's new life under the hood with a couple key modifications to make it more suited to dirt late model racing. Next up is the purchase of a second car and the team has been keeping their eyes peeled for the right piece of hardware. “We learned so much this year about how these cars like to be driven and how different chassis' suit different drivers” says Corey “I now know that with my driving style we are looking for a “blue” front Rocket chassis. The “black” front car that we ran this year will get the open motor and the “blue” car, which favors a smoother, more momentum based style, will be getting a brand new 604 crate motor.”

With big plans for 2011 the team has been hard at working making sure that their equipment is in top-notch condition. The #11 Rocket Chassis has already been stripped to its bare frame to begin a complete rebuild from the ground up. “We want to make sure our equipment isn't holding us back.” crew chief Hotch Earl said. “By re-building each and every piece of this years car and going over our new car with a fine tooth comb, we can be sure that both machines are ready to perform at their peak.”

Be sure to follow along at www.coreyearl.com for all team updates and news.

Corey's 2010 title sponsors are: Hotch's Auto Parts, RBC Dominion Securities: Lisa Thompson Group and G&R Solar.
David Scott Captures ODLM Title With Win At Brighton Speedway

By Greg Calnan – Brighton, ON (Saturday, August 28th) – The Ontario Dirt Late Models were delayed by one week in completing the tours 2010 schedule, but for David Scott of Garland, Pennsylvania it was worth the wait. Scott cruised to his third win of the season and captured the series championship in the process.

The 30 lap main event featured hometown driver Charlie Sandercock on the pole with Mark Glassford on the outside. When the green flag dropped and the racing began it was apparent the points contenders would make their way to the front quickly. Points leader Scott started 7th, one row behind second place point man Greg Oakes. The two drivers along with Chad Valone charged towards the front. Three early race cautions slowed the opening laps of the race, but by lap 6 Scott moved passed Sandercock for the top position.

The most spectacular crash of the evening came on lap 9 when Jim Jones and Andrew Hennessy tangled. Hennessy's #87 was sent rolling over on the backstretch. Both cars were heavily damaged and unable to continue.

When the racing resumed it was Scott, Valone, Sandercock, Oakes and Lee Gill running in the top five. Sandercock was strong all evening and gave the defending champion Oakes a run for his money. Eventually Oakes would move past the #57 and into the top three. This set up the top three in points to duel it out for the race win.

A pair of lap 20 cautions for spins by Andrew Reaume and Phil Potts bunched the field for the final ten laps. Scott was hooked up on the bottom groove and pulled away from the rest of the field. The biggest scare of the night for the point leader came with just two laps to go as Rob Perry hooked an infield barrier and looped the car wildly right in front of Scott. The pilot of the #3 was able to make a quick maneuver though to avoid colliding with the lapped car and kept the lead for the final restart.

When the green came back out on lap 28 Scott again powered away from car owner and teammate Valone for the win. The victory helped clinch the 2010 Ontario Dirt Late Model Championship for the Pennsylvania driver. The unofficial margin of victory was 10 points over Oakes and 29 over Valone.

The Ontario Dirt Late Models would like to congratulate David Scott on becoming the 2010 series champion. The tour would also like to extend its appreciation for the support of its sponsors and many fans who attended each event.

The 2010 Ontario Dirt Late Models is presented by these marketing partners: Klotz Canada, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Bolt-on, Leaf Racewear, R2C Performance Filters, VP Racing Fuels, Formula Kartways, Track Mart, Perlui, Pefferlaw, Humber Nurseries, Gott Stone, Laguna, Aquascape, Bernheisel Race Cars, Hoosier Canada, Snapedge, Rainforest Sprinklers, db Embroidery and ImageFactor.ca.

RACE REPORT – SATURDAY, AUGUST 28TH, 2010
ONTARIO DIRT LATE MODELS
2010 SEASON EVENT # 4
Brighton Speedway - Brighton, Ontario

ENTRIES
(Number Name - Hometown)
2v Chad Valone – Warren, PA
3 David Scott – Garland, PA
5 Jason Fontaine – Port Colborne, ON
7D Jeff Dayman – Welland, ON
11 Corey Earl – Picton, ON
20 Doug Anderson – Trenton, ON
22 Greg Oakes – Franklinville, NY
23 Rob Perry – Foxboro, ON
25 Lee Gill – Lafargeville, NY
28 Chuck Meyer – Crogan, NY
29 Phil Potts – Frankford, ON
33 Chris Ross - Tupperville, ON
34 Jim Jones – Chatham, ON
38 Kirk Hooker – Chatham, ON
49 Jason McCrory – Carrying Place, ON
57 Charlie Sandercock – Trenton, ON
60 Dale Glassford – Thamesville, ON
75 Beau Brown – Brighton, ON
77 Brett Reaume – Blenheim, ON
77x Caley Weese – Carrying Place, ON
87 Andrew Hennessy – Picton, ON
88 Andrew Reaume – Blenheim, ON
90 Mark Glassford – Goderich, ON
92 Adam West – Ridgetown, ON
92c Keith Cameron – Tilbury, ON
98 Jeff Mutton – Brighton, ON

HEAT RACES
(top 2 finishers in each heat redraw for feature starting positions)

HEAT RACE #1
(10 laps)
Finish.
ODLM At Brighton: Two Drivers, Five Points... One Race

By Greg Calnan - After a one week delay due to rain the Ontario Dirt Late Models will get back to action at Brighton Speedway in Brighton, Ontario on Saturday, August 28th. The event will be one to remember as the 2010 series champion will be crowned. #3 David Scott of Garland, Pennsylvania, who has two wins on the season, holds a slim 5 point advantage over defending series champ #22 Greg Oakes of Franklinville, New York. Scott's teammate #2v Chad Valone sits third in the standings just 25 markers back of the top spot.
The annual visit to Brighton Speedway is always a popular one and this years edition should be no different. In 2010 the speedway brought back the Late Model division to its weekly racing card and the results have been positive. Many of the weekly regulars plan to compete with the ODLM which should create yet another large car count for the series.

In 2009, Chris Ross piloted his #18r Late Model to the win at the Brighton Speedway over John Lobb and Greg Oakes. The third place finish for Oakes capped off his second straight ODLM title. Fast forward to 2010 and the driver of the Pioneer Propane #22 is knocking on the door of a three-peat. Although he has managed to rack up two seconds and a third place finish this season, David Scott has been nearly unbeatable with two wins and a third. With only one race left to settle it and just five points separating the top two drivers the championship could come down to the final lap.

Race time at Brighton Speedway on Saturday, August 28th is 7pm. A total of 25 cars made the trip for round three of the 2010 season.

Defending series champion Greg Oakes started on the pole of the 30 lap feature with Andrew Reaume on the outside. Chad Valone grabbed the early lead until the first caution flew for Jim Jones who spun in turns three and four. The race went back to green briefly before a multiple car collision took place involving a number of drivers. Gregg Haskell took the worst of the wreck. The race was marred with a number of brief yellow flags for spins, but the action heated up past the half-way point.

The battle for the lead became a rewind from the previous Sunday night at Cornwall. Teammates Chad Valone and David Scott had an intense duel for the top position. As was the case in the previous race, Valone fell victim to lapped traffic in the closing laps and lost 4 spots. Scott led the final seven laps to notch his second win of the 2010 ODLM season and padded his point lead over Greg Oakes. Oakes finished second while Darren Peters, Chad Valone and Dale Glassford rounded out the top five.

The Ontario Dirt Late Models return to action on Saturday, August 21st at Brighton Speedway in Brighton, Ontario. The event will be the final race on the 2010 tour meaning a champion will be crowned. The title will be up for grabs as just 46 markers separate the top five in ODLM points after three rounds.
Mantha Captures Popular First Late Model Win At Cornwall

By Greg Calnan – Cornwall, ON (Sunday, July 25th) – The Ontario Dirt Late Models continued their eastern Ontario swing on Sunday with the tours second annual visit to Cornwall Motor Speedway. A total of 25 cars were on hand for the second round of the 2010 season.

Andrew Reaume and Chad Valone lined up on the front row for the 35 lap main event and at the drop of the green flag it was Valone grabbing the early lead. Jason McCrory brought out the first yellow of the evening with a slide through the infield grass. As the field went back to green conditions it was again Valone setting the pace until lap 3 when chaos ensued. Similar to the previous night at Brockville a multi-car crash filled the racing surface in the first corner. A number of drivers were involved with Keith Cameron, Mike Lewis and Jason Haskell receiving the worst of the damage.

After a brief time for cleanup the race was back underway with Valone continuing to lead and his teammate, and winner the previous night, David Scott moving his way up to the top three. Outside pole sitter Reaume began to fade in the middle stages of the race and gave up second to Scott. Both Greg Oakes and Peter Mantha were able to get by Reaume setting up a four car battle for the win.

On lap 16 Jeff Mutton brought out the yellow for a spin in corner two. The restart would feature the team cars of Valone and Scott on the front row. Valone continued his dominance by riding the top line around the track. The top groove began to lose its speed though as the laps wore on. Third place Oakes began to find bite on the bottom lane and moved past Scott for second and set his sights on the leader. The top two began to catch lapped traffic and it proved to be costly for Valone. He and Oakes split a lapped car going into corner three. Oakes was able to squeeze by on the bottom while Valone went too high and ran out of track. Valone went over the top of the banking and came to a rest in turn four bringing out the yellow on lap 23.

Oakes and Scott duked it out on the restart while a patient Mantha sat in third. Lapped traffic was the story in the closing laps as the top three chased down the win. Mantha did the best job of navigating through the field moving past Scott for second. Mantha then got the break he needed as he and leader Oakes went into the third corner side by side. A slower car in the path of Oakes allowed Mantha to rocket around the top of three and four and grab the lead at the line. The Gatineau, Quebec native lead the closing laps on the way to his first career late model victory. Oakes crossed the line second while Scott maintained the point lead with his third place finish.

It was a popular win for the former Cornwall Motor Speedway DIRTcar Small Block Modified driver. His victory propelled him two positions into third in Ontario Dirt Late Model points standings just 6 points out of first.

The Ontario Dirt Late Models return to action on Sunday, August 1st at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario.

RACE REPORT – SUNDAY, JULY 25, 2010
ONTARIO DIRT LATE MODELS
2010 SEASON EVENT # 2
Cornwall Motor Speedway - Cornwall, Ontario

ENTRIES
(Number Name - Hometown)
05 Mike Lewis – Wallaceburg, ON
1* Peter Mantha – Gatineau, QC
2v Chad Valone – Warren, PA
3 David Scott – Garland, PA
7D Jeff Dayman – Welland, ON
RH21 Gregg Haskell – Chatham, ON
22 Greg Oakes – Franklinville, NY
22x Jim Mason – Fullmore, NY
23 Rob Perry – Foxboro, ON
25 Greg Belyea – Sterling, ON
29 Phil Potts – Frankford, ON
33 Don Gordon – Chatham, ON
34 Jim Jones – Chatham, ON
38 Kirk Hooker – Chatham, ON
49 Jason McCrory – Carrying Place, ON
57 Charlie Sandercock – Trenton, ON
60 Dale Glassford – Thamesville, ON
75 Beau Brown – Brighton, ON
77 Brett Reaume – Blenheim, ON
77x Caley Weese – Carrying Place, ON
88 Andrew Reaume – Blenheim, ON
92 Adam West – Ridgetown, ON
92c Keith Cameron – Tilbury, ON
RH94 Jason Haskell – Blenheim, ON
98 Jeff Mutton – Brighton, ON

HEAT RACES
(top 2 finishers in each heat redraw for feature starting positions)

HEAT RACE #1
(10 laps)
Finish.
David Scott Drives To First ODLM Win At Brockville Ontario Speedway

By Greg Calnan – Brockville, ON (Saturday, July 24th) – After rain spoiled the Ontario Dirt Late Models season opener at Autodrome Edelweiss on Friday the tour traveled to Brockville for another attempt at racing. Weather kept the event in question right up until race time, but fortunately the rain held off allowing the 27 teams in attendance to take to the track.

In the 30 lap feature it was David Scott and Andrew Reaume on the front row. Reaume was able to power to the lead from the top line and held the number one spot for the opening laps. Very quickly it was apparent that turn one would be a problem for the ODLM drivers. Paul Grigsby found himself into the barrier on the entry of the corner in the opening laps. Shortly after that yellow flag a multi-car crash left many teams in despair. Jason Haskell, Greg Belyea, Adam West, Charlie Sandercock and Keith Cameron were among those with the most damage done to their machines.

As the race got back underway Reaume continued to show the way out front. Pole sitter David Scott however slowly began to reel in the leader and took the top position midway through the A Main. Scott set sail from that point on and cruised to the win. “I love this track, it was fun to race on and the fans are great!” said the Garland, Pennsylvania native.

Reaume was able to hold on to second place while defending series champion Greg Oakes finished third.

The win gave Scott the Ontario Dirt Late Model point lead heading into round two at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday, July 25th.

RACE REPORT – SATURDAY, JULY 24, 2010
ONTARIO DIRT LATE MODELS
2010 SEASON EVENT # 1
Brockville Ontario Speedway - Brockville, Ontario

ENTRIES
(Number Name - Hometown)
05 Mike Lewis – Wallaceburg, ON
1* Peter Mantha – Gatineau, QC
2v Chad Valone – Warren, PA
3 David Scott – Garland, PA
7D Jeff Dayman – Welland, ON
RH21 Gregg Haskell – Chatham, ON
22 Greg Oakes – Franklinville, NY
22x Jim Mason – Fullmore, NY
23 Rob Perry – Foxboro, ON
24 Paul Grigsby – East Concord, NY
25 Greg Belyea – Sterling, ON
29 Phil Potts – Frankford, ON
33 Don Gordon – Chatham, ON
34 Jim Jones – Chatham, ON
38 Kirk Hooker – Chatham, ON
57 Charlie Sandercock – Trenton, ON
60 Dale Glassford – Thamesville, ON
75 Beau Brown – Brighton, ON
75J Joe Banks – Portland, ON
77 Brett Reaume – Blenheim, ON
77x Caley Weese – Carrying Place, ON
78 Rick Baker – Ridgeway, ON
88 Andrew Reaume – Blenheim, ON
92 Adam West – Ridgetown, ON
92c Keith Cameron – Tilbury, ON
RH94 Jason Haskell – Blenheim, ON
98 Jeff Mutton – Brighton, ON

HEAT RACES
(top 2 finishers in each heat redraw for feature starting positions)

HEAT RACE #1
(10 laps)
Finish. (Wednesday, July 21) - ODLM Champion Oakes last minute decision making, will affect the full field of super late model cars expected to run this weekend at the TrackMart Eastern ODLM Late Model Challenge. Greg has decided in the final week drawing up to this exciting weekend, that he will return to defend his title.

It was questionable, as Greg is running for points in the O’Rielly Late Model Series based in the U.S. Greg is from Franklinville NY and will be piloting his # 22. Joining Greg in his second car, is driver Jim Mason 22x from Fullmore NY. Greg will be set to defend his title against the ODLM regulars along with another invading two-car team. Chad Valone out of Warren, PA and David Scott from Garland, PA will represent the Pennsylvania racing boys and should be strong contenders. Added to the mix from New York State will be Paul Grigsby, John Lobb, Lee Gill and Chuck Myers. Dave Hartman of Michigan has indicated he will make the long haul to participate.

Look for these Americans to add excitement to the three races being held at Autodrome Edelweiss on Friday, July 23, Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday, July 24 and Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday, July 25th. A cumulation of hard charger points earned over the 3 nights, will guarantee one driver walking away with a new DefNder Head and Neck Restraint System, sponsored by TrackMart.

There will a number of top Ontario late model drivers in attendance as well. Look for teams from the Windsor/Chatham area to descend on the eastern part of Ontario. Numerous teams from the new late model class at Brighton Speedway & Can-Am Speedway, will also join the field this year to gain experience at running with the ODLM. Three teams hailing from the Port Colborne area and are set to do action on the tracks. Quebec driver Peter Mantha has made the trip to Chub Franks shop to pick up his 1* car to participate in the Friday night race at what he considers to be his home track.

This year, the ODLM is set to put on one of the greatest shows on dirt, and will set a precedent in super late model racing in Ontario.
