J.R. Fitzpatrick has severed his connection with Toronto financier Steve Meehan's GO Canada Racing Team. Fitzpatrick notified the motorsport media Thursday evening that he will no longer drive for the #67 Nationwide car and will concentrate in the meantime on the Canadian Tire Series. But he vows to be back in a Nationwide Series car before the season is over. "I want to thank all the guys at the shop in Nashville for all their hard work," said Fitzpatrick, who finished fifth in the Nationwide race at Montreal two weeks ago, which was his third Top Ten finish in the Nationwide Series this season. "I think I played a large role in helping GO Canada develop their program. Thanks to Steve Mehan for bringing me in at the beginning to do that." Fitzpatrick added that he wants all his fans to be assured "that I will be making some really cool announcements about the continued development of my NASCAR career."(Toronto Sun)(9-2-2011)
Seems odd. I guess that only one of two things could have happened here. Either JR and the team had some kind of disagreement, or JR has a better offer on the table........I just don't see him walking away from this for no reason. We'll find out in time I guess.
Anyone have any insight on this or information on what happened?
New NNS team with Villeneuve & Ranger? A new Canadian team, who wants to drive full time in NASCAR Nationwide Series next year, is trying to hire Jacques Villeneuve and Andrew Ranger for the 2012 season. According to the Journal de Montreal, an Ontario businessman had begun discussions with two Quebecers to compose a duo of drivers. This man would count on the support of entrepreneurs known in order to build a budget. Villeneuve was involved in two Nationwide races this season against four Ranger. "It's definitely a little bit faster because you start to talk about it. The owner has great projects for next year. But there are things to watch with sponsors. Financially, too, because like it or not, it's still a series that costs a lot money. With two cars on the track, it can cost even more.I think we have good contacts and discussions with them now" Ranger told RDS.(RDS.ca) translated using Google translate.(8-22-2011
or is he losing his ride . . . .
Seems like a lot of false starts for JR , while back looked like he was going to be doing truck series. Too bad, be nice to see Canucks in it.
