actually nine canucks listed to attempt Q
My question to you Mobil1fan is why would they go through the whole planning of attempting to start the Nationwide race and then park it after the first lap. They aren't going to win that much money to do the start and park thing. I would hazard a guess that they actually want to see what they can do against some of the best in stock car racing and possibly impress more potential sponsors. But I guess we'll have to wait and see how many start and where they finish. I'm pretty sure the Boys family from out west aren't planning on starting and parking after the haul they have made to get there.
You'd have to ask Johnny Davis or the MSRP owners, as they've done the S+P routine in damn-near every Nationwide race this year. If guys like Thompson, Steckley and the Boys duo really wanted to impress sponsors/teams down South, they wouldn't be running for those respective teams this weekend. They've brought no sponsorship to them whatshowever, so there's no reason for their teams to run them the full race. If proven drivers like Terry Cook, Kertus Davis and others have S+P'd in that equipment, our guys don't have even a glimpse of going the distance.
It paid a little better than $31000 to finish 43rd last year at this event. If you already have the cars and crew, starting and parking is pretty good money, especially if you're renting powerplants by the lap. For the cost of a set of tires for qualifying, the return isn't bad. I would also assume that these drivers are 'buying' into the ride to some degree. Also have to consider that completing a certain percentage of events is more money for the owners at the end of the season.
And, this also keeps your equipment and guys fresh incase someone with money comes along.
