On Friday night the Sidney, British Columbia driver held off a late charge by Edson, Alberta's Shawn Kennedy to win his second Feature of the 2016 season. Kennedy dominated the Friday night Feature leading the most laps but Midgley, competing in his 90th NPP MIDGLEY WINS FRIDAY NIGHT FEATURE IN EDMONTON Miller would challenge the race leader for several laps before relinquishing second to Shawn Kennedy. For the second night in a row Midgley spent the remainder of this race holding off Kennedy. Midgley prevailed once again and drove to victory in his Integra Tire (Edson) #14 Dodge with Kennedy finishing second and Broughton finishing third. "Everyone has stepped up their game," exclaims Midgley, "so I have to do the same. Due to last month's rainout (May 28) at Castrol Raceway, Central Alberta Raceways inherited the NPP Series 2016 season opener. The Rimbey, Alberta oval track hosted its first and only NPP Series season opener ten years ago under the exact same circumstances. "It was back in 2006," recalls NPP Series announcer Gord Craig, "the first race of the year (in Edmonton) was rained out. The next race on the schedule was Rimbey." Ironically, Central Alberta Raceways was scheduled to host the 2014 season opener of the NPP Late Model Series. This race was unfortunately rained-out handing the Edmonton track the NPP Series season opener in 2014. "I don't know what it is with the NPP Series and season opening rainouts. Maybe we should just stop calling the first race of the year the season opener." Since 2005 only two seasons have started off

NPP SERIES IN RIMBEY THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT
========================================================================================= Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd., based in Edson, Alberta, is the title sponsor of the NPP Late Model Series
according to the schedule. "We guessed right last year," laughs Craig, "we scheduled our opener towards the end of May and it worked." Darrell Midgley won the 2015 NPP Series season opener and would later go on to win the NPP Series Championship. The Sidney, British Columbia driver has the opportunity this weekend to become just the third driver in the 16 year history of the NPP Series to win back to back season openers. The two-time NPP Series champion could become the first driver in NPP Series history to win three season openers. The racing facility, located northeast of Drayton Valley, Alberta, will be re-opening under a new name in 2016. Drayton Valley Speedway president Brandon Murray is excited about the challenge that lies ahead. "A lot of work will be needed to get this facility back-up and running again. There hasn't been an event here since August of 2006." The last event featured the Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series on August 19th and 20th, 2006. Two-time NPP Series Champion Dwight Kennedy won the Feature event both days.

"The NPP Series is welcome here anytime," says Murray, "we're also reaching out to sprint car drivers, modified drivers and street stock competitors. The racetrack, which opened its doors back in 1990, has released its tentative Oval schedule for the 2016 season.

Twelve dates appear on the tentative schedule which is consistent with past seasons. Six of these race dates are scheduled for long holiday weekends.

All scheduled shows in Sangudo Alberta, for the 2016 season, are also two-day race weekends. Heavy rain moved into the region wiping out the remainder of the two-day show.
