(September 3, 2018) – Tonawanda, NY’s Matt Farnham took full advantage of re-drawing the pole and led all 20 laps to score victory in his first career start with the Action Sprint Tour powered by RaceRivalz.com on Sunday night at Humberstone Speedway. The win adds Farnham’s name to the Action Sprint Tour record books as the fifth different winner in series history and the first American driver to claim a win. The win is even more remarkable considering the Empire State driver is normally a 358 Modified driver at Ransomville Speedway and not regular Sprint Car pilot.

“I’ve had experience at Humberstone in the Sportsman and I cannot thank Trey Hoddick, Scott Kreutter and my crew enough for this opportunity,” Farnham said in Victory Lane.

Farnham and the “Beamsville Bullet” Paul Klager bring the 15-car field to the green flag after both drivers declined the Durnin Motors Front Row Challenge and the chance to earn a bonus $500 if either could win from the 12th starting spot.

Farnham grabbed the early lead with Aaron Turkey and Shone Evans battling side-by-side for third over the opening laps. Evans eventually emerged with the spot. While Farnham had opened an early advantage, he got off the top of the racing surface in turn two with eight laps to go, allowing Klager to reel in the point man.

A lap 13 restart following a Trevor Young spin in turn two saw Farnham re-establish his advantage up front while Klaher, Evans, Turkey and Josh Hansen raced inside the top-five. Farnham went on to lead the remainder of the race to complete the win in his first career tour start. Paul Klager earned a season-best runner-up finish while Shone Evans rounded out the podium. Turkey and Hansen completed the top-five.
Shone Evans’ third-place finish added two points to his lead over Aaron Turkey in the championship standings entering Friday’s tour finale. The gap stands at just eight points prior to the deciding race, meaning Turkey is still very much alive in the chase for the crown.

The Action Sprint Tour completes its inaugural season this coming Friday on September 7 when it will crown the first champion at Ohsweken Speedway. Race time is 7:00pm.
Shone Evans Collects Third AST Win at Humberstone

By Clayton Johns, with files from Steven Petty

PORT COLBORNE, Ont. (August 12, 2018) – Shone Evans took full advantage of his pole starting spot and led all 20 laps on route to another piece of history as the first driver to win three races with the Action Sprint Tour powered by RaceRivalz.com on Sunday night at Humberstone Speedway. Evans also took over the series point lead following the seventh race of the season.

Evans and Liam Martin brought the field to the green flag after both drivers declined the Durnin Motors Front Row Challenge and the chance to earn a bonus $500 if either could win from the 12th starting spot.

Evans jumped out to the early lead while eighth-starting Aaron Turkey, who entered the night third in the standings, was quickly on the move and raced into second by lap three after getting past teenage driver Josh Hansen.

The first caution of the race waved on lap seven when Welland, Ont. native Blaine Barrow slowed to a stop at the top of turn two. On the ensuing restart, Evans and Turkey distanced themselves from the remainder of the field while St. Thomas, Ont. driver Jesse Costa, who entered the night at the point leader, raced around rookie Brandon Murrell for the fourth spot.

Another restart on lap 10 produced largely the same result as Evans and Turkey proved themselves the class of the field once again. They raced away from the field while battling for the lead until a red flag on lap 18 when Hagersville, Ont. native Jerry Hill rolled on his side after contact with Dereck Lemyre. He climbed from his car uninjured.

The first attempt at a green-white-checkered finish did not go as planned and resulted in Costa rolling his No.52 on its side. Costa was assisted out of his car with help from the Humberstone Speedway safety team and Emergency Medical Staff. He was alert and conscious, but was transported to local hospital for further observation and treated for chest and back pain.

After the incident was cleared, Evans completed his dominating night as he held off Turkey over the final two laps to secure his third win of the season. Turkey earned the runner-up spot of Hansen while Port Colborne teenager Jacob Dykstra and Brad Herron rounded out the top-five. Brandon Murrell earned his first career top-10 in a Sprint Car with a sixth-place finish as Steven Beckett, Paul Klager, Ryan Hunsinger and Jordan Hill rounded out the top-10.

The Action Sprint Tour continues its inaugural season on Saturday, August 18 at Brighton Speedway. (Photo by Dale Calnan/Image Factor Media).

PORT COLBORNE, Ont. – (June 17, 2018) – Aaron Turkey took full advantage of his pole starting position led all 20 laps of the Feature event to score his second career Action Sprint Tour powered by RaceRivalz.com win in the series’ inaugural stop at Humberstone Speedway on Saturday night. The Ohsweken, Ont. driver turned in a perfect score card as he won his heat race before selecting the pole in the pre-race redraw and then held off teammate Holly Porter in the main event.

“It’s really cool,” Turkey said of the victory. “I’m shocked I did it on the bottom. I usually like cruising around on the high side, but I’m really glad to get it done.”

Turkey and Porter started on the front row for the 20-lap Feature. The two drivers claimed the front row starting spots via the redraw after winning their respective heat races. Both drivers elected to keep their front row starting spot and declined to take the Durnin Motors Front Row challenge where they would have dropped to the 12th starting spot for a chance at a $500 bonus if they could score the win.

When the green flag dropped, a handful of early cautions slowed the race, including one involving Ryan Hunsinger, who spun in a battle for third and collected point leader Shone Evans, ending his night. Turkey pulled away on the restart, anchoring his car to the bottom lane. Behind him, Porter and local driver Jacob Dykstra of Port Colborne, Ont. raced away from the rest of the pack. (June 13, 2018) – The Action Sprint Tour powered by RaceRivalz.com is gearing up for its debut appearance at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ont. on Sunday, June 17 for a special Father’s Day showing. The race marks the fourth event of the upstart tour’s inaugural season.

Although Sunday’s race is the first Action Sprint Tour event at Humberstone, Crate-powered Sprint Cars have raced at the fast 1/3-mile track three times over the past two seasons, helping to spawn the creation of the Tour in 2018. Dylan Westbrook, currently a 360 Sprint Car driver, won both 2017 appearances while current Action Sprint Tour pilots Holly Porter and Jerry Hill earned second-place finishes.

Shone Evans, the current Action Sprint Tour point leader, won the first-ever Crate Sprint Car race at Humbertsone back on June 16, 2016 and now two years and a day later will look to extend his Series win streak to three consecutive races with a Father’s Day victory at the Port Colborne track. The Scotland, Ont. native picked up the win last Saturday at South Buxton Raceway in Merlin, Ont. after winning at Thorold’s Merrittville Speedway in May.

Evans’ early season success has placed him at the top of the Series point standings, but he holds a narrow seven-point advantage over St. Thomas, Ont. driver Jesse Costa, who has finished each of the first three events on the podium. Hagersville, Ont. native Jerry Hill currently sits third in the standings, 38 points back of Evans. However, his advantage is just three points over Styres Racing teammates Holly Porter and Aaron Turkey who sit tied for fifth.

After three races, Ryan Hunsinger (No.43h – Stouffville, Ont.), Steven Beckett (No.08 – Fonthill, Ont.), Paul Klager (No.1eh – Beamsville, Ont.), Hannah Ferrell (No.4 – Vanessa, Ont.) and Brad Herron (No.12 – Waterford, Ont.) round out the top-10 in the standings.

Through three races, none of the drivers to start on the front row have attempted the Durnin Motors Front Row Challenge. The challenge offers a $500 bonus if one of the two drivers scheduled to start on the front row of the Feature drop to the 12th starting spot and win. Humberstone’s configuration allows for close quarters racing, but also typically offers a wide, two-groove racetrack, a perfect storm for a driver to accept the Durnin Motors Front Row Challenge and make a charge to the front.

A total of 33 different drivers have attempted to qualify for an Action Sprint Tour powered by RaceRivalz.com race in 2018.
Brandon Mowat Wins First Career Go Nuclear Race At Humber Nurseries Humberstone Holdup

By Clayton Johns

PORT COLBORNE, Ont. (July 24, 2016) – Brandon Mowat was handed the pole position via the top qualifier redraw and never relinquished his prized possession. The Brighton, Ont. native dominated all 30 laps of the Humber Nurseries Humberstone Holdup for his first career Go Nuclear Late Model Series tour win on Sunday night. Mowat becomes the first Ontario-based driver to win with the Go Nuclear tour at Humberstone Speedway in four series events.

“It’s been two years since I won and it wasn’t a tour win last time. I just tried to keep it smooth, tight to the bottom and just roll,” said a very excited Mowat in Humber Nurseries victory lane. “It feels pretty special, especially at a track we haven’t really been to much.”

A caution-filled race got off to a slow start as Andy Mayhew (No.1 A&A Haulage), Travis Martineau (No.171 Schwartz Construction) and Norm Mayhew (No.60 Mayhew Graphics) spun together in turn one before the first lap could be completed.

The first lap was complete with Mowat (No.46 Target Fabrication) on the point, but slowed again for the second caution when Brian Down (No.8 Unique Landscaping) spun on the frontstretch.

On the ensuing restart, the field got up to speed with Mowat pacing Dennis Lunger Jr. (No.71L Schwartz Construction). AJ Kingsley (No.9k Pit Stop Convenience) drove to third past the third-starting Sam Pennachio (No.311 Duguay Haulage) on lap four.

The field was slowed again on lap five for a pair of cars spun at the exit of turn four. As the field came back to green, Rob Pietz (No.69 Mike Knapp Ford) spun off the track in turn one to bring out the yellow.

The constant restarts didn’t appear to bother Mowat as he pulled away to a half straightaway lead on the restart while Lunger fought off a challenge from Kingsley in the top groove. Lunger’s No.71L couldn’t keep pace with Mowat on any of the restarts, although he felt the single-file decision helped him protect the second spot.

“With all the cautions, it didn’t help us. We went with the (hard) right rear and I don’t think they ever took off. They were still cold when I touched them,” Lunger said following the race. “You couldn’t run the high side, so starting on the outside was a little bit of a disadvantage tonight.”

Kingsley’s pursuit was slowed when Charlie Sandercock (No.57 Bellevue Fabricating) spun alone in turn 1 to bring out another yellow. The ensuing restart didn’t go much better as Down and Pietz tangled this time in turn three.

Kyle Sopaz (No.12 Lots and Lines) was the big mover on the restart, jumping two spots to fifth. Pennachio also leap frogged Kingsley to retake the third spot. The point man remained Mowat for the moment, but Ken Winfield (No.82 Bill’s Toyota) and Tyler Rand (No.84 Main Stop Ultramar) came together in turn three for another yellow.

Another caution on lap 16 prompted single-file restarts for the remaining 14 laps. Just as Mowat caught the rear of the field with 20 laps complete, Down spun in front of the leaders after a nudge from Mowat.

Mowat admitted that the constant restarts prevented any chance to develop a rhythm, but he kept calm inside the cockpit on a warm night.

“I started to get a little flustered by the seventh restart, but I just kept hitting my marks. I had to keep telling myself that,” Mowat concluded.

Mowat did just that as he capitalized on the single-file restart and pulled away from Lunger again by a half-straightaway with five laps to go. Sandercock was on the move, jumping from 10th to fifth by the time of the final caution on lap 27.

Mowat was too strong on the final restart and had no difficulties with the clear track in front of him on the way to his first career Go Nuclear Late Model Series win. Lunger held off a surge from Sandercock on the final lap as the No.57 found some grip in the top lane to pass both Kingsley and Pennachio over the final three laps.

“We came in to the feature knowing everybody was going to be on the bottom and we had to do something different,” Sandercock said. “We threw a bunch of stuff at it and it seemed to work. I was happy with it. It was a good job by the team that was busting their butt in the pits.”

The series returns to action tomorrow night at Ohsweken Speedway for the Northern Crate Nationals presented by Humber Nurseries. Race time is 7:30pm.
Go Nuclear Late Model Series Heads West For Humber Nurseries Humberstone Holdup and Ohsweken Northern Crate Nationals

By Clayton Johns

STIRLING, Ont. (July 22, 2016) – The Go Nuclear Late Model Series is gearing up for two big events at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ont. on Sunday, July 24 and at Ohsweken Speedway on the Six Nations Reserve in Ohsweken, Ont. on Monday, July 25 presented by Humber Nurseries. It is the only appearance for the Go Nuclear Late Model tour at both tracks this season and the only Late Model race of the season at Ohsweken. The two events are races five and six on the tour in 2016.

Sunday’s $1200 US-to-win, $175 US-to-start event at Humberstone will be a difficult test for the Go Nuclear travellers against the track’s weekly Late Model regulars. The race marks the series’ fourth visit to the tight 1/3-mile oval. Twice the series attracted 27 cars to Humberstone (2013 and 2015) and 31 cars once (2014).

New York drivers have won all three previous events at Humberstone. Jason Knowles of Addison, NY claimed the most recent victory on August 23, 2015. John Waters of Whitesville, NY went to victory lane on June 1, 2014 and Fulton, NY pilot Rick Miller scored the win on May 19, 2013. Pit admission for the event is $20 for Humberstone members and $25 for non-members.

On Monday, the series takes on Ohsweken in the Northern Crate Nationals for the second time in its history. The $2000 US to win and $200 US to start is one of the richest races on the tour this season. The Go Nuclear stars will share the track for the night with the Race of Champions Sportsman Tour, Ohsweken’s Crate Sprint Car and NASCAR star Kasey Kahne, who will race in the 360 Sprint Car division. Darren Peters of Fort Erie, Ont. won the series inaugural visit to Ohsweken on June 30, 2015. Pit admission is $30 for Ohsweken members and $35 for non-members.

Trenton, Ont. native Charlie Sandercock holds the hot hand in recent Go Nuclear competition having won the last two tour events. Most recently, Sandercock won the Cornwall Clash at Cornwall Motor Speedway on July 3 and one week prior went to victory lane at Brighton Speedway on June 25. Sandercock has never won at either Humberstone or Ohswken, but did earn a runner-up finish at Ohsweken last year.

Sandercock sits atop the championship standings entering the Humberstone-Ohsweken swing. He holds a 19-point advantage over Brighton, Ont. native Phil Potts. Another Brighton, Ont. native, Brandon Mowat, occupies third in the standings ahead of Macedon, NY driver Chad Homan and Stirling, Ont’s Greg Belyea.

To date, John Waters is the only other victor after winning the series season opener at Utica-Rome Speedway on April 24.

For additional event information, please visit Humberstone Speedway online at www.humberstonespeedway.com and Ohsweken Speedway at www.ohswekenspeedway.ca.

---
Lap Sponsors (Both Events)

Lap 1 - Surefoot Inc. The speedway will also continue it's long running tradition of DIRTcar Sportsman Modified competition on a weekly basis.

For the eight Modified events, both 358-Modified and Big Block Modified drivers can compete and earn home track and Safety-Kleen points. Points will be awarded separately for each division based on finishing position. As part of the Safety-Kleen Championship, Modified racers can earn points at tracks close to home which will then be counted toward a region-wide points competition. In 2012, Brett Hearn won the Big-Block Modified Safety-Kleen Championship, taking home $7,500 in cash plus $2,500 from VP Racing Fuels, and Dale Planck won the 358-Modified Safety-Kleen Championship, earning $3,000 from the point fund plus $1,000 from VP Racing Fuels.

By adding DIRTcar Pro Late Models, Humberstone Speedway joins Brighton Speedway in nearby Brighton, Ontario, as two tracks in the Northern States region offering the division. Competing at both tracks may put the national championship within reach for area racers. Last year's DIRTcar Pro Late Model National Championship winner, Bobby Dauderman of Alhambra, Ill., earned a total of 1,487 points competing in 20 shows to take home a $10,000 prize.

"It's great to see tracks like Humberstone Speedway continue to develop their DIRTcar relationship as they expand their weekly racing program. The fans will truly benefit as the region's race teams will have more opportunities to compete," said Joe Skotnicki, Director of Series and Sanctioning for DIRTcar Northeast. "These additions will be especially helpful for some of our western New York racers and Canadian racers, giving them a chance to race in weekly events at a track close to home."

Humberstone Speedway races Sunday nights starting at 6 p.m. For more information about weekly racing at Humberstone Speedway, visit the track website at http://humberstonespeedway.com .

The Super DIRTcar Series and DIRTcar Racing in the Northeast Region is brought to fans by several sponsors and partners including Hoosier Racing Tire, VP Racing Fuels, Chevy Performance Parts, Gander Mountain, NAPA Auto Parts, Nationwide Insurance, and Safety-Kleen.
