As one person said.."I paid $40 to see UFC one night and today i saw it plus racing."
Yup lots of pushing, guys with bars in their hands, crashing, banging, a car on its roof, 2 on fire, a truck taken, fresh hamburger buns, not a place to stand or sit in the pits and a pretty good crowd in the stands.....like an old time Octoberfest.
The Limited Late models had 18 start and it was #47 Walters and #8 Parker bumper to tail from start to finish. In fact they lapped everyone except the 3rd and 4th place cars, #99 and #34, and as they were , a caution fell. The #34 and #99 went to the pits, infact the #99 had to pit again later in the race because his hood fell off and what was left blocked his view, and still took his third spot in line when he came back out, because he had lapped everyone too. Really the only time Walters looked like he would have a problem winning this was during practise Saturday, when someone dumped fluid on the track and he spun in turn one backwards, stopping a foot from hitting the wall and in todays race, the 77 spun right in front of him between 3 and 4 making for a near miss.
Supers started 12...Hanley took off and was leading, but pulled off, a spotter told me his rear end had gone. Then later a big wreck on the back side had the 83 in the air bad into the wall with the 7T and 54. The same spotter said "I hope we have 8 cars for Peterboro."
A few cars hit the pits when the red flag was lifted, and it looked like only 5 would finish but they ran a number of caution laps and then dropped the green, but shorted it to 12 more laps to go. The remaining cars crossed...7, 22, 88, 52, 54, 68, 9.
Thunder cars were crazy right from the 2 last chance races won by #84 a.k.a Santa and #31.
#13 Collison, who I was told had a sour crate motor earlier in the year and just got a new one a few weeks back and has been flying ever since, took the lead and had #02 Erin Bailey chasing him the whole race. Back in the pack, all kinds of carnage was happening. Quite a few damaged cars in the end, some "see You at Peterboro, I'll have a bigger bumper !" and alot I cant print. #72 Russell slowly worked his way thru the field and on the last corner squeezed by Bailey for second. The officials came down to the pits and the crow bars were hidden and the mini feature started.
30 cars took the green in the mini feature. The ones too watch were #31 Dave Bailey the Flamboro champ, #63 Burrows always a good finisher but loses in tech and the surprise kid that bought the #13 Honda from Sauble we were told and racing only in his second ever race.
Lots of action, 3 and 4 wide sometimes. About 3 different packs of cars racing around the track. A couple of wrecks taking out top cars including the "pink honda".
Then near the end it looked like 3 honda engines expire or start pouring smoke....the 24, 77 and another. As the checkers fell the new kid with the #13 honda crossed first, Burrows second Bailey third...but.....the new kid didnt kno his new hotrod had an illegal flywheel....and Burrows..."he passes tech"...so Bailey is second the 34 moved to third from last reports.
Scott Lyons in the #9 had the hobby field covered , sorry I didnt catch the rest.
The latemodels started 10 in the last chance and it was won by #44 Laking.
First feature started 26 cars and was caution free till lap 19 with #07 and #4 getting into it, 3 laps later a big crash with the #06, #99 and #56x (tim ellis i was told). It was pretty well the #82 Jason Shaw's race to lose but at the finsih he won with the #8 Howse, #95, #37 dave Elliott following.
The second 50 was inverted finisher start with non finishers behind, which included #52 Scott Lyons, who usually shines at these specials but pulled off early in the first 50 with problems.
From the start #44 Laking was gone. During the race there were a few spins early, but Laking was gone on the restarts. The best car on the track, was the #8 of Howse who was slowly picking cars off and making his way too the front. He had made his way to 6th, when on a re start he was punted by the car behind him sending him to the infield, bring out a caution and him re starting tail. And then he was on his way too the front again.
The worst crash of the race happened when #56 Stewart looked to get punted on the back straight, held on but clipped a passing car....then heading into turn one his tire must have blew, he had it locked up and he took the #4 right into the wall...the sparks were flying as the 4's underside climbed up it then it went over. The race was red flagged. And later i heard the driver Urlin took off in the cleanup crews truck to his pit stall. They say he has done that before at Delaware and somewhere else. #37 Dave Elliott and #95 Anthony Simone shared the first place overall win.
Thundercar b feature started 12 cars, winner was #71 Mercer.
Mini b feature started 14, #8 Sean Kokoski.
Next up FrostFest 08, Nov.1 and 2.
good report Crash, was nice to meet you finally. We had to leave just as the supers were starting unfortunatly. How did the blue 2 do in the mini B ?
Not a bad day of racing all told. I am glad I was able to make it out to see TC 38 Dave Melson wind up his career but sorry he lost his engine and had to DNF. Was good to talk with my old friends from the 48 LLM team as well. Met some new people and enjoyed several conversations with people sitting by us in the pit grandstand. Maybe one of these years I will pay closer attention to the forecast... it gotta little chilly for just a t shirt and summer jacket lol.
Its was good meeting you too duken.
The mini b feature was a chance for all but one, #8, too get their first ever win....but the 8 car, which i was surprised wasnt in the A feature, raced thru the field and won pretty easily. The blue 2 finished 6th. It was nice to see that some fans stuck around till the end around 10 pm. Made for another long 12 hr day just to run one race, the last race of the nite. But it was a great day for all that happened to just be watching.
Duken was nice to see you there, I didnt loose my motor I thru my belt's thus not letting me steer the car into corner 1 and ended up putting the 9 car into the wall, I really feel bad for that happening as he and his crew we met on sat seemed to be such great ppl, so with my belt off the car over heated instantly and the top rad hose blew dumping water and my power steering fluid on the track, but all in all I had a great weekend it was a blast, They gave me the win in the 1st consi as the 84 did not go thru tech and got DQ'd car was hooked pretty good all weekend and with one win what more could I ask for in my last weekend of racing..
