Would be nice to see a few more dirt minis give Flammy a shot-perhaps Mitch Brown, Rob Overholt, Chase Hess, etc.
I took my oshweken dirt mustang to octoberfest 3 years ago. Had to get tires, gearing wasn't right, brakes could have been better, and i had never been on a paved trak before. several told me i shouldn't use octoberfest as my first pavement race. I should have listened. Went too hard into the second corner and locked the brakes, slid up into a guy and ended his weekend. he was not at all happy, I was embarassed and felt like a tool.
It did, however, give me a taste of some very exciting, close racing that i really like. If anyone comes for the first time like i did, i encourage them, just remember your limitations...
there is favourtism at every track...we went to barrie for their year end specials twice years ago and saw matt dean get wrecked by a barrie car and i got rammed into the wall by bonehead ben and nothing was done...then we got screwed at peterboro at autumn colours...they were years ago but i've never raced or gone to watch since....i may go to peterboro now i hear gary is going and the weather isnt freezing....
that one octoberfest jr showed up with a far superior car, in my and alot of people's opinion, and ya guys are going to race him alot harder because well...he is jr...he had a real rough time with one driver ,#73, that i can remember, but he sure didnt get wrecked or damaged any worse then most...
flammy is a one groove track, a bull ring, take it for what it is....
the points are over, some guys are settling grudges, and some are carried over from other tracks too..lol...
i agree with mike32 on wondering why they bring limited latemodels in for just this one time? and if stompin tom isnt coming...well...no disrespect to the others but tom is a big draw for fans...
super late models only race on saturday this year...i think thats a great idea...
myself i would rather see just the regular divisions latemodels, thundercars and minis spread over the 2 days with heats saturday and last chance/ features sunday and then the visiting classes running their full shows on either sat or sunday...
I have been myself and have witnessed the TC guys and how they treat..I was there 2? years ago and watched them try and wreck JR every lap.
I can back that up. That was 07 and I was there for that one, and JR caused quite a stir in the TC pits for something he had under the hood. (That was the Dan Monaghan 89 car that was driven at Del this year by 84-Smith) I don't remember what it was that everyone was complaining about- but everyone was talking about it, and it was pretty much agreed before the race that he was fair game.
I don't mind the Oktoberfest show, or the likes of it, but I do agree with a prior poster that sometimes they cram too much in. I remember finally throwing in the towel and going home shortly after they rolled out the last LM feature.
But, Flamboro is a back gate track, so that perspective it makes sense to get as many cars in the pits as they can.
Trev: I posted on the Inside Track Board (and on a previous post here indirectly) that Flamboro's Oct. Fest should really be more like Delaware's year end show-Separate divisions on Separate Days. All this qualifying on Saturday, feature on Sunday bit does is run up Motel, Fuel and Food bills for race teams. Maybe more lm teams would compete if there wasn't so much running back and forth. Should your qualifying and feature be 24hrs apart?
I was proposing Flammy runs a complete show on the Saturday with thunder cars, mini stocks, cvms, and a couple junior classes with Sunday reserved for a complete show of late models (both Oscaar and Late Model Sportsmen).
The track has had a tendency in the past, if the Saturday part of the show washes out, to move the whole two day program back two weeks (Peterboro usually tries to jam everything into one day if there is a problem on the first day).
I figure if one of the days is cancelled by weather, it's logistically easier to move a single one day show to a rain date.
But like you mentioned, Flammy and for that matter Peterboro, are both back gate driven and the current way they sell a lot of two day pit passes.
I've been doing this a long time and just see a lot of fans no longer willing to put up with overly long shows. The marathons are not family friendly and even the number of "frothies" who prefer quantity over quality seem to be dropping in numbers.
I guess I object also to including the 8 car Pro 4 club and the Hurricane Midgets which look lost on the third mile and likely should be running at Wonderland Speedway. Just proves the promoter will take anyone's money............
ken forth has posted he'll skip flammy and #20 mini stock regular parker holman is skipping due to a broken wrist
weather forecast doesnt look encouraging
