As a touring car, this should had been addresed to osscar not cro
JMO

I agree 100 percent and hope that the race director of OSCAR takes this up with the management of Delaware. It is a black eye for all involved to read these comments from an employee of the speedway prior to the track contacting the officials in charge.

Lets all work together to correct minor issues before they become larger issues on blogs web pages such as this.

to LMFAN if you don't like the show that is your opinion, however please refrain from making derogatory comments, especially comments that could be construed as defamatory.

Cheers to all... i doubt that we will be back.

Gentleman,

There is no issue here other than the ones we create for ourselves.  I’m simply saying to the community, both local and touring, that we should be conscious of the hard work that goes into keeping facilities clean.  This is as much a message for Local drivers, Sportsman Cup Drivers and NASCAR Canadian Tire Series drivers as it is for OSCAAR drivers.

OSCAAR is by no means the only series that has left trash behind, nor will it be the last.  It is an issue, however, that deserved some community attention.

The only “black-eye” I can see coming from this is blowing something minor out of proportion.  Re-read my posts again.  My only comments in this thread have been directed at a minority of OSCAAR drivers - - by in large I have praised the series for making it through a tough night, and even noted that likely 80% of the teams left their pits spotless.  I thank them sincerely for helping us out with this, especially given the tough night.

Please do not confuse my posts with the posts of other board members who are attempting to twist these comments into a slam on the OSCAAR Series’ hard-working teams and drivers.  I am disappointed that this has become a wedge issue.  To those who have become offended by this thread, I apologize for starting it.  It is rare for me to post on such things and will likely exercise different judgment in the future.  It is more common for me to be responding to posts directed at speedway and it’s programs, clarifying facts and taking fan feedback - - in this case, I wished to bring to the attention of the community a challenge faced by the race track.

The internet, my friends, continues to be a double edged sword.  I as PR director at the track I have pursued an activist policy of interacting with fans and drivers openly through any channel possible, whether it be here on the boards, facebook, twitter, or of course; in person.  I try to do so on a professional, but also human basis and at times, it is not easy.

For every thread that turns sour, there is a silver lining.  In this case, the community (I imagine) will be more conscious of the appearance of the race track, and the track has been informed of a problem relating to the number of bins that was not previously known to us.  We were even contacted by a number of competitors who have access to some additional trash drums for the track.  We will be taking them up on this offer and will continue to do our part.

These boards are about dialogue, they are not about embarrassing any particular driver, touring series, or organization.  Delaware Speedway’s media policy differs from nearly every other track I am familiar with.  My hope is that it provides transparency, interaction, and above all two-way dialogue with our community.  It is a policy that I hope is as valued by the community as it is to us.

I really think this could have been handle better....if it was just the minority of teams making a mess then why not contact them individually instead of posting something here? My feeling is if you want to inform any visiting teams of your concerns then use the drivers meeting........NOT here.

My original assessment was that this was a community issue beyond one touring series that included other tracks and even local drivers.  Based on the private messages I received, this continues to be correct - - teams who are tired of picking up their neighbors trash.  We are now dealing with a vocal minority who have taken the opportunity to twist this (unfortunately) into a slam on OSCAAR.

In terms of a community thread, members of the racing community came to bat (by private message) offering some additional bins for the pits and pointing out where some bins were missing that I was unaware of.  These helpful suggestions were productive and continue to provide me with evidence of the good that can come from message board interaction.

I am not certain who precisely everyone feels reads these boards.  In my experience, it seems to be primarily racers and serious die-hard fans.  We don’t see a lot of casual postings from the general public.  While it is a public board, it appears to be mainly a gathering place for the racing community - - which is who the message was for, so we could work together on the common goal of facilities we can and are proud of.

This thread is no longer serving its original intent of demonstrating one of the many challenges faced by the community and is instead demonstrating one of the challenges faced by the PR policy I worked to develop.  In an ironic twist, I’ve asked for the moderator to refrain from locking the thread.  I cannot have speedway social media policy both ways.  I must take the bad, with the good.  I firmly believe in open dialogue with the community, even when it is not necessarily going my way.

As a human being, I am not perfect - - but hopefully you can see I’m at least trying my best.  At times, despite my best intentions I don’t succeed.  I willingly add the decision to post this thread to my list of failures this season - - a learning experience I’ll not soon forget.
